Nanxun Ancient Town is located in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Since its establishment as a town in the Southern Song Dynasty, it has prospered due to the silk trade. From the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China period, it was one of the wealthiest towns in the Jiangnan region, and there was a folk saying that "the whole city of Huzhou is not worth half a town of Nanxun." Rivers run through the town, and rows of old houses with white walls and dark tiles line both banks. Compared with other ancient water towns in Jiangnan, what makes Nanxun unique is its Chinese-Western hybrid architectural style—the silk merchants of Nanxun accumulated enormous wealth through international trade and also brought Western architectural elements back to their hometown. Many mansions and gardens incorporated Western columns, stained glass, and other components into traditional Jiangnan architecture, which is quite rare among ancient towns in Jiangnan. The core attractions of the ancient town are concentrated along the river on South East Street and South West Street, and it is relatively convenient to start touring from Little Lotus Villa. Little Lotus Villa is the private garden of Liu Yong, a great wealthy man of Nanxun. In the garden, the lotus pond, Taihu stone rockeries, and flowers and trees set each other off beautifully, and it is a representative of the ancient town's garden views. The adjacent Jiaye Hall Library was built during the Republic of China period by Liu Chenggang, grandson of Liu Yong. It was once a large-scale private library in modern China, and the building itself also presents a Chinese-Western hybrid style, with a two-story corridor-style pavilion surrounding the courtyard, and the doors and windows on the ground floor are hollow-carved with seal-script characters, very exquisite. Walking north along the river, attractions such as Zhang Shiming's Former Residence, Liu's Ti Hao, Qiushu Li, Guanghui Palace, and the Silk Industry Guild Hall are distributed in sequence on both sides of the street. Zhang Shiming's Former Residence is known for its exquisite wood carvings and Western glass windows, and is a typical example of Chinese-Western hybrid architecture; Liu's Ti Hao likewise blends Chinese and Western architectural elements and has a distinctive style. Continue north to the end of South East Street, and on the opposite bank of the river are the Hundred-Room Tower and Zhang Jingjiang's Former Residence. The traditional dwellings of the Hundred-Room Tower stretching along the river have a strong sense of daily life. In the early morning and at dusk, you can see locals living by the river in their everyday water-town life, making it suitable for strolling and taking photos. The ancient town as a whole is not large, and a quick tour takes about half a day, but if you want to savor the architectural details of the residences and gardens in each place, it is recommended to allow more ample time.

The duration is about 70 minutes, and it is divided into four chapters: "Light of Life", "The Wizard of the Valley", "Fantasy Secret Land" and "Magic City of Magic". "Journey to the Magic Land" presents a brand-new performance that combines acrobatics, dance, magic and drama performances. Through the cross-border integration of innovative technologies such as drone formation and big visual stage art. The 270-degree panoramic circular stage allows the audience to experience the performance art in which different perspectives of the ground and the air pass through each other, and immerse themselves in the grotesque fantasy world super sensory. The whole play brings together more than 300 international circus elites and performing artists from more than 20 countries across Asia, Europe, America and Africa to cooperate on the same stage, and at the same time incorporate more than 500 well-trained rare animals to perform on the same stage. Costume designers and styling teams join in to carefully create the costumes and makeup of each character in the play, allowing the audience to experience the wonderful journey of the fantasy show "Journey to the Magic Land" in person, highlighting the cutting-edge charm of modern circus performances.

Nanxun is huge, very lively and crowded, with beautiful scenery and many stone bridges. There are also many memorial halls and such. If you're not interested in history, there's no need to pay to go inside; just stroll around, eat, and take photos—a day is enough.

Going on a sunny day is a great idea. When I went, it happened to be raining and foggy. The mountain was covered in white, and I couldn't see anything. It had a mysterious, unknown feel to it.

On one side, there are thrilling cliffside high-altitude activities, and on the other side, there is a soothing alpine grassland. The Hobbit House is a great spot for taking photos, and the Xianxia Town has lively and diverse performances. With a variety of activities to suit both adults and children, it is highly recommended for a weekend getaway.

I booked the South Taihu Mountain Villa in Huzhou on short notice, and the stay was a pleasant surprise! The butler, Didi, provided one-on-one service, adding me on WeChat to promptly answer my questions – very thoughtful and attentive. The hotel is built on Xiaomei Mountain, with beautiful scenery and a fantastic view of the Sheraton – perfect for taking photos. You can also watch the Moon Hotel light show at night. Staying in Zone 1 is close to the main building, less than a 5-minute walk to the breakfast restaurant; the breakfast was plentiful, including local specialties like thousand-layer tofu and delicate pastries. I would definitely come back again.

The zoo + amusement park experience wasn't as good as Cloud Grassland. The park is quite large, and a day there was pretty fulfilling, so it was a good choice. The highlight was the close-up animal viewing, and at the end, you could feed the black swans on the lawn, which the kids enjoyed.

An incredible surprise in Huzhou! 🎭✨ Taihu Performance City is enormous, with themed areas, restaurants, street dancers, horses, camels, ice-skating shows and spectacular productions. Plan at least half a day, ideally a full day! Just for very few performances you need to pay extra.The Taihu Lake-themed show was my favourite, featuring water effects, aerial acrobatics, moving stages and immersive storytelling. For the Xi Shi production, I recommend VIP seats (58 RMB/person) for the best view.⚠️ The main downside is the language barrier: almost everything is in Chinese, with very few English-speaking staff and limited or no subtitles. Use an AI translation app to understand the stories and ask for the show schedule.As a performing arts professional, I loved the creativity and production scale. Highly recommended! ❤️

Getting a ticket on trip is easy and entry into the area is straightforward . Amazing experience to watch. The show was breathtaking from start to end. Tip-Try to get to the venue at least 20mins before the start time in order to get good seats.
