Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District

8.4
4.6/5
11.6k reviews
Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District is located in the heart of Jingdezhen's old town, a historic neighborhood that grew around the ruins of the imperial kiln from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The old saying "Taoyang thirteen li, with tens of thousands of households" refers to this area. The imperial porcelain used by the royal families of the Ming and Qing dynasties was exclusively produced by the imperial kiln here, while rejected tribute items were shattered and buried on-site. The layers of underground porcelain fragments share the same origin as the collections in the Palace Museum, making this place often referred to as the key to understanding the porcelain capital. The core attractions of the district are concentrated around the ruins of the Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District and the imperial kiln museum. The ruins of the Taoyangli Historical and Cultural District have now been transformed into an archaeological site park, preserving relics such as kilns and workshops. The Longzhu pavilion, perched atop Zhushan hill, has been the iconic structure of the imperial kiln since the Ming dynasty and later became the symbol of Jingdezhen. The Zhushan hill beneath it was formed by layers of discarded porcelain fragments from imperial kilns throughout history. Nearby, the imperial kiln museum draws inspiration from traditional egg-shaped wood-fired kilns, featuring multiple brick arches arranged in a staggered layout. Many exhibits in the museum are restored from porcelain fragments unearthed at the site, including the Ming dynasty blue-and-white dragon jar—a signature exhibit pieced together from tons of discarded dragon jar fragments. Adjacent to the museum, the Xu family kiln, an old wood-fired kiln, still operates periodic firings. During kiln openings, the gate is wide open, allowing visitors to watch artisans retrieve freshly fired porcelain from saggars. The district also features winding alleyways lined with kiln-brick residences, guild halls, porcelain shops, and remnants of modern ceramic industry. The restored South goods street and Red shop street now host old teahouses, taverns, music bars, and craft workshops where you can observe traditional processes like clay throwing and porcelain painting, with some workshops offering hands-on experiences. It's recommended to set aside half a day for the visit—start with the kiln site and museum, then meander through the streets around Zhongshan north road and Longgang lane, where many historic courtyard houses hidden in deep alleys await patient discovery.Jingdezhen · 4 km from downtown

The museum is designed in the form of a "kiln", with multiple curved arch structures and red brick walls that have a simple and rustic feel. The ancient town of Yaoli Porcelain Tea is located in the valley, surrounded by peaks, and conforms to the traditional Chinese concept of "Heaven and Man". It has gathered many cultural landscapes such as the ancient buildings of the Ming and Qing Dynasties and the revolutionary sites. Walking on the ancient street here, stepping on the cobblestone-covered blue stone road, counting the ancient shops on both sides of the street, it is enough to feel the strong traces of history.Fuliang · 42.4 km from downtown

Fuliang County Gujing Scenic Area is located in the north of Jingdezhen. It is a well-preserved Wupin County in the Qing Dynasty. The two sides of the central axis of the county are symmetrically distributed with the military grain storage, school yard, cell and other institutions, which are very complete. Along the way, you can learn about the setup and function of many ancient county institutions. Here, not only can you see a complete county-level institution, but also a real person who plays a bridge like the "public court case" in the costume drama. It is quite interesting.Fuliang · 4.1 km from downtown

There is an old-fashioned farm house and ceramic workshop more than ten miles southeast of Jingdezhen, called Sanbao International Ceramics Village. The whole village seems to be an ordinary and very old farmhouse. Inside the door is a clay marker with many pieces of porcelain and pottery works embedded in it. There is a small stream introduced from the outside in the yard. The water is clear to the bottom. Some of the porcelain bowls and pieces were half buried in the mud, the ancient wooden farm tools and local daily necessities were quietly left aside, and the big red Spring Festival couplets were pasted on the log doors. The long gazebo made of logs, and the rice barrels of the farmhouse made of logs are chairs. It's casual, simple, unstructured, and wild. Here are the original life scenes and plots: the house was bought from the villagers, the courtyard wall was built by the villagers using the "dry base" process 20 years ago, and the furnishings in the house were also produced by the villagers more than 20 years ago. Living utensils, nearly 10 artisans here use primitive methods to produce ceramics and pottery tools. In addition to the living area, there are studios, pottery halls, traditional porcelain making tools, wood-burning kilns, folk artists, etc., Guanyin with broken arms, headless Bodhisattva, even a slag cake, a bowl bottom , a deformed dragon cylinder. This codified tradition has become fully modern. Sanbao Village is a ceramic workshop courtyard of an old-fashioned farmhouse. The earthen courtyard wall is built by "dry base", and a crystal clear stream runs through the courtyard. The courtyard is full of traces of years of hard work - porcelain bowls and pieces, many of which are half-covered in the mud.Jingdezhen · 8.7 km from downtown

The Porcelain Palace is located in Xinping Village, Fuliang County, Jingdezhen. It is a building made of "porcelain" materials. The entire Porcelain Palace spent more than 60,000 pieces of porcelain, and the whole body was inlaid with tens of thousands of pieces of various colored porcelain pieces, porcelain bottles, and porcelain plates. There are four famous porcelains in Jingdezhen: blue and white, exquisite, pastel and color glaze. Half of the porcelain is embedded in the wall and placed in various shapes. The style is ingenious and bold. The "palace" is also inlaid with a large number of porcelain plate paintings of different sizes. Porcelain used for decoration is the accumulation of old people for decades, most of which were fired in wood kilns in the 1980s, and there are many fine products.Fuliang · 7.4 km from downtown

As the site of the Ming and Qing imperial kilns, this area preserves ancient kiln clusters such as Xujia Kiln and Ming and Qing kiln workshops, allowing visitors to truly experience the history of "Taoyang Thirteen Miles". The red brick kiln bricks and lights after sunset create a wonderful atmosphere, perfect for taking photos in modern Chinese style or Hanfu.

Mr. Wang's explanation was very clear and accurate, which gave me a deeper understanding of the imperial kiln ceramic culture of Jingdezhen. He was also very responsible, meticulous and thoughtful in his work. I will definitely visit Jingdezhen again to learn more about ceramic culture and listen to Mr. Wang's explanation again!

Yaoli Ancient Town is indeed beautiful, with its white walls and black tiles, and streams winding through the village. Walking on the bluestone paths evokes the charm of a traditional Jiangnan water town, making it a worthwhile destination. However, the dining experience this time was truly disappointing. The price of the farm-style dishes is understandable, given it's a tourist area, but the key issue is that the taste was simply not worth the price: the dishes lacked the characteristic wok hei (wok aroma), the seasoning was either bland or overly heavy, and the ingredients didn't taste fresh—it felt like mass-produced "tourist farm-style food." I had hoped to enjoy a proper local meal, but the scenery kept me entertained the entire time. My advice is to check reviews before visiting Yaoli, and don't be lured in by enthusiastic doormen, or you might end up with a disappointing experience.

Hike through Wanghu Ecological Park to witness the breathtaking Nanshan Waterfall and experience its awe-inspiring cascade. Water mist blankets your clothes, the valley roars, and the mountains exude a natural grandeur. The murmuring streams and clear springs among the rocks offer a glimpse into the slow pace of life in the mountains.

It's worth a visit if you've never seen a county government office before, especially the performance. Kudos to the actors! Despite the heat, they didn't slack off at all and gave a fantastic performance. However, I have to complain about the overly complicated route design (a common problem with all tourist attractions these days). They've built so many pointless commercial facilities. If you don't want to see these, you have to take the shuttle bus, which costs 10 yuan round trip. This kind of mindless design is just awful.

Definitely worth a visit! I had imagined it would be inside a cave, but I didn't expect it to be so thrilling and fun. We experienced hiking, felt the excitement, and also saw porcelain. The kids were very satisfied – a truly unique experience!

#Jingdezhen·Sanbao International Porcelain Valley [Location]# is the contemporary spiritual reserve of #Jingdezhen# as an international porcelain capital. Inheriting the porcelain gene of Hutian Kiln, the valley of dozens of kilometers between two low mountains is home to hundreds of ceramic creative studios of all sizes. Whether old, forty, thirty, young, returning to the scenery, or drifting in the scenery, they gather in this valley of more than ten kilometers to keep warm. The tourists who come here in an endless stream are more like uninvited guests, which have opened ripples in the tranquility here. Going up the stream along Sanbao Road, all the way to the end of the road, the valley is quiet and the birds are singing more crisply, the stream is gurgling under your feet, and you don’t follow Ruan Ji’s cry of despair, but instead want to return to farming. A spring rain at night, the lightness and heaviness complement each other.

A local old man devoted his life to creating this scenic spot, which is on the only way to Yaoli from Jingdezhen. The style of the main building is similar to that of an earth building, with a hollow ring shape. The exterior walls are decorated with broken porcelain pieces of various colors. There are currently four buildings, three circular and one rectangular. The themes of the internal displays are different, some are praising advanced figures, and some are introducing the core values of socialism. They are all porcelain paintings fired from one piece.
