The Giant Buddha is situated in the halfway up the hill in the suburb of Rong County, Sichuan Province. It is the second largest stone carving Buddha in China, following the Maitreya Buddha in Leshan. There are two arhats leaning against a fairy peach with one crossing his arms in front of the chest leisurely, while the other one faces the peach without emotion seemingly. These statues show their otherworldly appearance, remaining unmoved by fame and wealth. The layout of these statues is rarely seen in China, and deserves research and study. They have been included in Chinese Art Work Collection - Grotto Sculptures of Sichuan.Rong County · 1.6 km from downtown

Leshan Giant Buddha

The Leshan Giant Buddha, also known as the Lingyun Giant Buddha, is situated on the cliff of Qiluan Peak on Lingyun Mountain at the confluence of the Min River, Qingyi River, and Dadu River in Leshan, Sichuan. It is a colossal seated stone statue of Maitreya carved during the Tang Dynasty, standing approx. 70 m tall, with a single instep spacious enough to accommodate over a hundred people. Legend has it that the turbulent waters at the confluence once frequently capsized passing boats. To calm the currents, the monk Haitong of Lingyun Temple initiated the carving of the Buddha. Over several generations, craftsmen continued the construction, which took approx. ninety years to complete. On the cliff to the right of the Buddha, an inscription from the Tang Dynasty titled "Jiazhou Lingyun Temple Great Maitreya Stone Statue" remains to this day, revealing its original name—the Great Maitreya Stone Statue of Jiazhou Lingyun Temple. The common route to visit the giant Buddha is to first arrive at Lingyun Temple beside the Buddha's head, then descend along the winding Jiuzhaigou plank road built against the cliff. View the Buddha's spiral hair buns and robe folds up close, and reach the platform at the Buddha's feet to look up at the full figure. Only then can one truly appreciate the grandeur of "a mountain being a Buddha, and a Buddha being a mountain." Lingyun Temple has continuous incense offerings, and many travelers also join their palms here to pray for blessings. For a different perspective, take a boat cruise or view from the riverside of Leshan ancient city: the continuous mountain outlines of Wuyou Mountain, Lingyun Mountain, and Guicheng Mountain resemble a giant reclining Buddha facing upward, with the grand Buddha seated precisely at its chest—creating the marvel of "Buddha within Buddha." The river view also captures the grand Buddha's full profile alongside the scenery of three rivers, making it especially effortless for travelers with limited stamina or those seeking panoramic shots.Leshan · 63.3 km from Rong County

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is home to many adorable giant pandas, allowing you to observe these adorable national treasures up close. Located in the northern suburbs of Chengdu, about 10 kilometers from the city center, the base is designed to completely simulate the wild environment of giant pandas, featuring lakes, streams, bamboo forests, and lawns. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has numerous "panda villas," which are enclosed recreational areas for the pandas. These villas include open-air enclosures and indoor rest areas. When the weather is cool, the pandas play in the enclosures, and visitors can observe them through the fences. When the weather is hot, the pandas retreat to the air-conditioned rest areas, where they can only be viewed through glass. Can I see pandas at the new Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding? Are there any other things to do? You can also see pandas at the new Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, including our meritorious pandas. Their home is bigger and their range of activity is wider. Seeing the pandas is the main attraction, but there's plenty more to see and do. A must-see is our landmark building – the popular Panda Tower. Located at the highest point of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, this new landmark stands 69.8 meters tall with 11 floors. Its exterior resembles a giant bamboo shoot, while the interior is shaped like a blooming hibiscus flower. Inside, 81 platforms offer visitors panoramic views of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding from multiple angles. There is also the art museum (new building) located in the dense forest area of the new district, which uses emerging exhibition methods such as multi-sensory interaction, lighting installations, interactive installations, and thermal sensing to create an immersive exhibition scene for visitors. The new area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding plans to set up rich and diverse science popularization exhibits and interactive facilities in four major areas, allowing visitors to learn about giant pandas while observing them and enhancing their interactive experience. During animal and environmental protection-related festivals, themed science popularization activity will also be held for visitors of different ages, such as interactive lectures, parent-child science popularization activities, and mystery games— activity that combine education and entertainment. If you get tired of playing, you can also listen to the musical "Panda": it vividly presents to the audience the harmonious coexistence, sharing of nature, and love of life of magical animals, represented by giant pandas, in the beautiful and fertile land of Chengdu, Sichuan. Through the form of a musical, it reflects the livable landscape of Chengdu, Sichuan, and the simple and peaceful life of the local people. In terms of total area, the area has increased from the original 1,035 mu to 3,570 mu, expanding 2.5 times. The expansion fully followed and utilized the original topography and landforms, leveraging the multi-layered landscape of mountain valleys and streams to create 11 giant panda venue, multiple science education venue, and a pedestrian street for visitors. After completion, the expansion project can accommodate no fewer than 180 giant pandas, as well as red pandas, golden monkeys, and other related animals. To date, several giant pandas and red pandas have already moved into their new home in the expanded area, and more rare animals such as golden monkeys await their arrival. Are the supporting facilities in the new district complete? The new area is designed to 5A attraction standards and is equipped with ample visitors facilities. In addition to basic facilities such as sightseeing vehicles and restrooms, it also includes numerous tourist facilities in the hillside commercial street, the exit commercial street, and scattered commercial areas. The planned businesses include restaurants, souvenir shops, postal services, cinemas, theaters, and outdoor education facilities, which can meet the needs of visitors in terms of quantity . After nearly a year of operation, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, addressing the issues of the large area and uneven distribution of facilities in the new area, has added several beverage vending machines, drinking fountains, and shared convenience facilities to improve the visitors experience. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding will further supplement and improve visitors rest facilities, information facilities, and guide tour facilities to better meet the needs of visitors. The expanded Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding will help Chengdu become a model area for harmonious coexistence between humans and nature, improve conditions for giant panda research and conservation, protect biodiversity, fully demonstrate the brand value, cultural value, and economic value of giant pandas, and shape the cultural tourism brand of "Tianfu Sanjiuda, An Yi Zou Sichuan" (meaning "Tianfu Three Greats, Enjoyable Sichuan"). New business formats and projects such as the Panda Art Museum, IMAX Cinema, and Panda Theater are now open, satisfying visitors' needs for food, drinks, entertainment, shopping, and leisure while watching giant pandas. First, it is more conducive to panda scientific research and conservation. As a nationally protected animal, the giant panda is gentle, adorable, and endearing, making it beloved by the people. However, with the continuous increase in the giant panda quantity, the old area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding faces increasingly prominent problems in panda husbandry and management, such as high population density and insufficient animal welfare. The completion and operation of the new area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding can effectively solve these problems, comprehensively improve the level of giant panda scientific research and conservation at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and effectively guarantee the welfare of the animals in the park. Secondly, it will be more conducive to enhancing people's sense of happiness and fulfillment. As socialism with Chinese characteristics enters a new era, the principal contradiction facing Chinese society has transformed into the contradiction between the people's ever-growing needs for a better life and unbalanced and inadequate development. Currently, tourism has become a rigid demand for a better life in a moderately prosperous society and is widely favored by the people. The construction of the new Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding aligns with the new trend of transformation and upgrading in people's tourism consumption, effectively meeting the people's high-quality and diversified needs for tourism consumption, and enhancing their sense of happiness and fulfillment. Third, it will be more conducive to creating a distinctive giant panda IP and contributing to the construction of a park city demonstration area. Since its establishment in 1987, the old area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding has achieved internationally recognized success in giant panda scientific research and conservation, science education, cultural tourism, and international exchanges. It is widely recognized both domestically and internationally as a leading demonstration unit for ex-situ conservation of captive giant pandas, boasting strong scientific and technological capabilities, numerous scientific achievements, and effective application and promotion. It has been successively awarded titles such as "National Advanced Collective in Science Popularization Work," "National Youth Science and Technology Education Base," "National Science Popularization Education Base," "National Environmental Protection Science Popularization Base," and "Cross-Strait Exchange and Cooperation Base." It has twice undertaken key cultural exchange projects funded by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee and twice received the United Nations' "Global 500" award. The construction of the new area of the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding will effectively enhance China's tourism brand image, build a distinctive giant panda IP with international recognition, and help Chengdu accelerate its construction as a world-class cultural city and a park city demonstration area implementing the new development concept.China · Chengdu

Shenhai Well is located at the foot of Ruanjiaba Mountain in Da'an District, Zigong City. It is a 'living fossil' of traditional salt production and a symbol of the maturity of ancient Chinese drilling techniques. Shenhai Well was excavated in the third year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty. Anyone who sees it will be profoundly impressed; it is over 1,000 meters deep, showcasing the boundless wisdom of the ancient people.  In the scenic area, masters use traditional methods to boil salt and carry salt, which gives visitors a feeling of stepping back in time. The scenic area is quite large, and if you only take a quick look, you might not gain a deep understanding. If possible, it is recommended to hire a guide, as you can learn a lot about salt and the history of the local salt industry.Zigong · 36.8 km from Rong County

On the second floor, sound, light, and electronic models are used to recreate the setting in which the dinosaurs lived.Zigong · 40.3 km from Rong County

The Dujiangyan Irrigation System is located along the main branch of the Lancang River, west of Dujiangyan City. It was constructed in the Qin dynasty around 256 BC by Li Bing, Prefecture Chief of Shu County, and his son. It is one of the few ancient Chinese water conservancy projects that has remained preserved and intact. The project consists of three primary works—Yuzui Diverting Embankment, the Feishayan Spillway, and the Baopingkou Water Inlet, and two secondary works which include the Baizhangdi (the thousand-feet dam) and Renzidi (the y-shaped dam). They divide the Yongjiang River into an outer and an inner branch, the former of which is used to divert floods and the latter for irrigation. This has allowed the Western Sichuan plateau to become "the land of abundance" as we now know it.China · Dujiangyan

Mount Qingcheng

Mount Qingcheng has long been praised as "Tranquil Paradise under Heaven," with its peaks encircling like city walls—hence the name. Legend says Zhang Daoling of the Eastern Han dynasty established Taoism here in a thatched hut, making it the ancestral home of Celestial Master Taoism, where temple incense still burns today. The mountain divides into front and back sections: the front features Taoist temples and cultural relics, commonly referred to as "Mount Qingcheng" by most travelers; the back excels in natural landscapes like pools, waterfalls, streams, and gorges, making it ideal for hiking and summer retreats. The highlights of Qianshan are concentrated. Starting from Jianfu Palace beside the mountain gate, follow the ancient stone steps upward past Natural Picture, Tianshi Cave, Chaoyang Cave, and Shangqing Palace, with the summit's Laojun Pavilion as the final vantage point. Tianshi Cave, also called Changdao Temple, is one of the mountain's largest Taoist complexes—its front courtyard holds a millennium-old ginkgo tree allegedly planted by Zhang Daoling, while the cliffside Ink-throwing Trough behind is said to be where the celestial master drew mountains with vermilion ink. Painting master Zhang Daqian once resided at Shangqing Palace, styling himself "Guest of Qingcheng." At the mountain's base, Yuecheng Lake's mirror-like waters add ethereal beauty to the lush greenery. The rear mountain entrance is the quaint Tai'an ancient town. From here, the trails connect Wulong gully and Feiquan gully into a loop, with views like Misty spring triple pools, Double spring water curtain cave, and Hundred-zhang long bridge accompanied by the sounds of water and shaded woods. The Longyin gorge walkway built along cliffs overlooks rushing streams below, making it a dedicated hiking route. The mountain stays pleasantly cool even in midsummer. The front mountain and back mountain entrances are not connected, usually requiring separate itineraries. Most 1-day tours choose one of the two. The front mountain's main temples can be visited in half a day, while the back mountain loop is longer and requires reserving most of a day. Travelers wishing to see the sunrise often ascend the mountain a day early, staying overnight at mountain temples for convenient morning viewing.China · Dujiangyan

Located in the Xiqin Guild Hall, the ancient Chinese architectural style, with its carved beams and painted rafters, vividly presents the history and culture of Zigong's salt industry. The process of well digging, water pumping, transportation, and salt production is explained in a concise and vivid way. The innovative use of natural gas and gravity well technology, based on operations research, allows you to extract the salt volume. It's a worthwhile experience!

The scenic area, originally rich in interesting resources, has become rather thin due to its self-promotion as a trendy tourist destination. It is suggested that it return to its original purpose, avoid getting lost in the noise of the times, and allow the Buddha's reputation to match its reality.

You can observe giant pandas very closely; the enclosure is divided into indoor and outdoor sections. The overall design is beautiful and perfect for taking photos. If you want to see the popular panda Hua Hua, you need to enter the park early to queue. The red pandas are also very cute. I highly recommend buying a sightseeing bus ticket for easy transportation and a comfortable, low-impact experience. When there are crowds waiting for the sightseeing bus, the wait can be quite long.

Our trip to Zigong with the kids was great! We chose the DaNaoShou Family Theme Hotel, and the experience was fantastic! I was especially impressed with Xiao Liao at the front desk; her service was attentive and gentle. Check-in was smooth and efficient; she greeted our child proactively, gave us a small gift, and explained all the hotel's services in detail, answering all our questions. The hotel had a fantastic dinosaur theme, with adorable decorations that were perfect for photos. The rooms were clean and odor-free, fully equipped, and thoughtfully provided children's amenities. The children's playground on the first floor was clean and safe, allowing our children to play to their hearts' content. The hotel's location is excellent, making it convenient to visit Fantawild Dinosaur Kingdom. The cleaning staff were also very responsible, keeping the public areas spotless. Overall, it was great value for money, the service was heartwarming, and our child loved the hotel. We'll definitely stay here again next time we come to Zigong!

A very worthwhile attraction to visit, and we even hired a guide; unfortunately, we couldn't see the brine extraction process, and seeing it separately would cost an extra 200 yuan, so we could only watch it via video; the current policies for seniors and children at tourist attractions are really thoughtful, as they are all free of charge.

We brought the kids here specifically to see the dinosaurs, and choosing this hotel was definitely the right decision! The location is incredibly convenient, very close to the highway exit—just a short walk after exiting the highway. It's also not far from Fantawild Adventure and the Dinosaur Museum by car. Parking is easy, with charging stations right downstairs, making it very convenient for those traveling by car. The mattresses in the room were from Sleemon, and they were very comfortable. There's complimentary freshly ground coffee in the lobby, as well as a self-cleaning step-by-step water dispenser, so we felt safe drinking water. Overall, a great experience, perfect for families visiting a dinosaur-themed destination!

I came with my family this time. The weather was great, and the scenery was absolutely stunning. My mom and I did a full hike, taking different routes on the way there and back, but we completed them side by side. It took us four or five hours in total. My legs were sore for several days afterward, haha. But it was really exhilarating; the view from the top was breathtaking.
