Sagres Fortress
Located in the Algarve region of Portugal, Sagres Fortress is a military fortress built in the 15th century by Prince Henry (Infante Dom Henrique), situated at the southern tip of the Sagres Peninsula, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The fortress was built to protect the port of Sagres and to support Portugal's maritime explorations. Prince Henry lived here and passed away in 1460. The fortress has been damaged multiple times throughout history, including an attack by the English privateer Francis Drake in 1587 and the Great Earthquake of 1755. Today, Sagres Fortress has become a museum, showcasing the maritime history and military architecture of Prince Henry's era. Visitors can explore the wind rose and the Church of Our Lady within the fortress, as well as enjoy the magnificent surrounding sea views. It’s very historic attraction, and we really enjoyed seeing the luxury tiles artwork. The gardens are beautiful. Have got a lot of home decor ideas, the souvenir shops is great too.
