The Real Maestranza de Caballeria de Sevilla, also known as the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza, is one of the most representative bullrings in Spain. Construction began in the 18th century and took 120 years to complete. As the birthplace of bullfighting, Seville also regards this bullring as a cultural heritage of the city itself. The most striking features of the bullring's architecture are the magnificent semicircular arcades and the Prince's Gate (Puerta del Principe). Opposite the bullring stands a sculpture named Carmen the Cigarette Girl, created based on the classic image from the novel "Carmen." When visiting Seville, watching a bullfight is an essential part of the itinerary. The bullring currently accommodates 12,500 spectators and is the dream venue for all Seville bullfighters. It also houses a museum showcasing the history of bullfighting in Seville and related exhibits such as bullfighting costumes, making it well worth a visit.Seville · 1.5 km from downtown

España Square

España Square in Seville is located in the tranquil and refreshing Parque de Maria Luisa in the southern part of the city. Its crescent-shaped classical architecture stands elegantly amidst lush greenery, making it a popular leisure spot among Seville's residents. It was built as the core architectural complex for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition, designed by Seville architect Aníbal González. Parque de Maria Luisa welcomed this newly constructed España Square, a crescent-shaped complex consisting of mansions, arch bridges, fountains, and pools. The signature feature of the square is the grid of colorful ceramic niches on the lower level of the arcade: over forty niches each represent a Spanish province, displaying painted tiles depicting the province's map, historical scenes, and portraits of famous figures. Many travelers make a point to find their favorite niche for a seated photo, while the arcade columns are adorned with round plaques of notable figures and coats of arms. Visitors can relax and take photos here or rent a small wooden boat to paddle on the lake, with particularly beautiful scenery at sunset. If you take a sightseeing carriage in the city, España Square is a must-visit spot. Amid the galloping wheels, you can fully enjoy the captivating scenes of the square, whether in motion or at rest.Seville · 1.3 km from downtown

The honeycomb-like framework resembles both the ribs of an open umbrella and a cluster of mushrooms breaking through the soil, earning it the local nickname "the mushrooms." Designed by renowned German architect Jürgen Mayer, Setas de Sevilla (Metropol Parasol) stands approx. 26 m tall and is claimed to be one of the world's largest wooden structures. It has now become a new geographical landmark of Seville. Setas de Sevilla (Metropol Parasol) has four levels. The underground level displays the Roman and Moorish ruins discovered here. Parque de Maria Luisa

Parque de Maria Luisa is a major public green space in Seville, extending along theRio Guadalquivirand covering an area of approx. 400,000 square meters. The park was formerly the garden of the Palacio de San Telmo and was donated to the city of Seville by Infanta Maria Luisa Fernanda in 1893. Starting in 1911, French landscape designer Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier redesigned the garden, using Moorish-style landscaping as a foundation, adding fountains, ponds, glazed tile benches, and pavilions, and planting numerous palm trees, orange trees, and Mediterranean pines to create the overall setting for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition. The semi-circular España Square on the east side of the park is the centerpiece of the exposition, designed by architect Aníbal González, and blends Renaissance, Baroque, and Neo-Mudéjar styles. The square is surrounded by a canal where visitors can rent boats to row on the water. Along the canal, the buildings feature benches made of glazed ceramic tiles, with each set representing a historical scene from a province in Spain. The three pavilions at the southern end of the park were also built for the exposition, each adopting one of three architectural styles: Gothic, Mudéjar, or Renaissance. Today, two of them have become museums: theArchaeological Museumdisplays prehistoric and Roman-era artifacts, including mosaics and sculptures unearthed from the nearby ancient ruins of Italica; while the Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions exhibits local ceramics, traditional costumes, and handicraft tools. The park is also dotted with landmarks such as the Bécquer Monument, the Lion Fountain, and the Water Lily Pond.Seville · 1.6 km from downtown
Torre del Oro

Torre del Oro

4.6/5
174 reviews
Torre del Oro is a dodecagonal military watchtower on the east bank of the Rio Guadalquivir. Built by the Moorish Almohad dynasty, it was once connected to the royal palace by a section of the city wall, guarding the strategic waterway for ships traveling upriver into Seville. The origin of the tower's name is debated: some say it was once covered in shimmering tiles, others claim it was named for the golden reflection of its mortar-and-straw coating in the sunlight, and legend also has it that King Peter I stored gold and silver treasures inside. While the golden finish is hard to find today, the tower often glows with a warm golden hue in the sunset, making it particularly photogenic. The tower is divided into three sections: the base was built in the early 13th century, the second level was an expansion in the 14th century, and the circular dome at the top was added after the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and is still covered with golden tiles. Historically, it has been used as a prison and a chapel, and in the 19th century, it served as offices for shipping companies and port authorities. Since 1944, the tower has housed a maritime museum, displaying ancient nautical charts, ship models, and historical navigational instruments, as well as documents recording voyages such as those of Magellan and Elcano, telling the story of Seville's connection to this great river and the sea. There is a cruise pier on the riverbank below the tower, where you can get a different perspective of this old tower from the water.Seville · 1.4 km from downtown
La Giralda

La Giralda

4.8/5
86 reviews
La Giralda is the bell tower of Seville Cathedral, with a total height of nearly 100m. Its lower section was a minaret of a mosque built under the direction of the North African Almohad dynasty. The horseshoe-shaped arched windows and diamond-patterned decorations on the brick tower exude a rich Islamic style. Later, architect Hernán Ruiz added a Renaissance-style bell chamber to the top of the old tower, seamlessly connecting the two sections of the tower, which are separated by hundreds of years. For centuries, Seville did not allow any buildings in the city to be taller than this tower, which shows its significance in the old city's skyline. The experience of climbing the tower is also quite unique: there are no stairs inside, only over 30 ramps that spiral upward. The slope is gentle, and it is said that in the past, it was even possible to ride a horse to the top. Walking along the ramps to the bell chamber platform at the top, you can take in the red-tiled roofs of Seville, the winding streets, and the distant Rio Guadalquivir. The bell chamber houses over 20 bronze bells, each with its own name. One of them, cast in the 16th century, weighs several tons and still rings today. The bronze statue at the spire, named "El Giraldillo," is about 4m high and weighs over 1 ton. It acts as a weather vane and rotates with the wind, and the name Giralda is derived from the Spanish word for "to rotate."Seville · 933m from downtown

32 reviews
The Casa Pilate was built in the 15th and 16th centuries as the residence of the governor of Andalusia, named after the residence of the governor of Pilate in El Sallem. The architecture mixes various artistic styles including Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance and Neoclassical. The architecture of the palace is decorated with precious tiles, completed by the Marquis of Tarifa. On his pilgrimage to Jerusalem in 1519, he returned home to find that the distance between the ruins of Pontius Pilate's house and Calvary was equal to the distance between his house and the Church of the Holy Cross in the Fields outside the city walls. Therefore, the house was named Pilate's official residence, and the rooms were also named after the theme of the Passion of Jesus. The atrium of the Casa Pilato is the essence of the building, with walls decorated with coloured tiles and horseshoe arches in the Mudejar style. The Gothic pool in the middle of the courtyard has a beautiful statue of Athena, which is also worth seeing.Seville · 479m from downtown

Lovely experience. So much history in one place. There were lots of renovations as well so be careful, but they are super good with making boundaries so you don’t step anywhere near it. Make sure you put 2 hours for this place and go up to the tower as you get to see the whole of Sevilla from different points of view

My recent visit to Plaza España in Sevilla was an unforgettable experience, highlighting the architectural magnificence and cultural richness of this iconic Spanish landmark. Designed by Aníbal González for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929, the plaza is a stunning example of Renaissance Revival architecture, with a unique blend of Moorish elements that pay homage to Spain's rich history. As I walked along the semi-circular brick building, I was captivated by the intricate ceramic tiles, known as azulejos, depicting the history and culture of each Spanish province. The craftsmanship and attention to detail in these artworks were astounding, offering a colorful mosaic of Spain's diverse regions. The bridges crossing the small canal, which reflects the beautiful façade, added to the romantic atmosphere of the plaza. The expansive central square, with its large fountain, was a vibrant gathering place for locals and tourists alike, echoing with the sounds of flamenco music and the sight of traditional dance performances. The grandeur of the Plaza España, set against the backdrop of Seville's clear blue skies, provided a picturesque setting that was both awe-inspiring and inviting.Exploring the Plaza España was not only a visual feast but also a deep dive into the cultural heart of Seville. It stood as a testament to the city's historical significance and its ongoing celebration of Andalusian culture and traditions. This visit left me with a profound appreciation for Spain's architectural beauty and its rich tapestry of history and art. visit it!

On the morning of the fifth day of our tour of Spain and Portugal in Seville, we visited the Guadalquivir River and saw landmarks such as the Torre del Oro, Columbus's sailing ship, and the Maslonza bullring. Led by our guides and official guides, we explored the Metropol Parasol and Santa Croce districts. The official guide mentioned that we could take an elevator down to the Metropol Parasol area to visit Roman and Moorish ruins.

Seville has extremely rich tourism resources, and the Golden Tower is one of the most noteworthy sights. The Golden Tower, located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River in Seville, was built in 1220. The original purpose of its construction was to monitor ships entering and leaving the river port, and it was later used as a warehouse, post office and prison. As one of the departure points for the Spanish ocean-going fleet, the Golden Tower witnessed the glory of Spain as a maritime power. The brick tower with 12 equilateral mausoleum columns has a strong Arabic architectural style, which is solid and elegant…
