Kiama Blowhole

Kiama Blowhole

4.8/5
12 reviews
Kiama Blowhole is an iconic coastal wonder in the coastal town of Kiama in southern New South Wales, Australia, located on the headland at the foot of the lighthouse. The name "Kiama" has long been interpreted as "where the sea makes a noise," which refers to this very spot. The headland's rock formations were created by the cooling of volcanic lava over 200 million years ago. Years of wave erosion have worn away the softer parts of the rock, carving out a sea cave that connects to the ocean at the bottom and opens upward. Whenever swells push into the cave entrance, seawater and compressed air shoot up through the hole at the top of the cliff. The water column can shoot up 20–30 m high, and the low roar can be heard from far away. The spray can even dampen visitors on the viewing platform. The eruption rhythm is closely related to the wind and waves: when the southeasterly swells are strong, the water column erupts almost continuously, while on calm days, you may need to wait patiently. On sunny days, the mist often refracts sunlight to create a rainbow, a common and delightful sight here. Please stay on the viewing platform behind the fence while watching. The rocks on the headland are slippery year-round, so do not cross the railing for photos. While waiting, take a look around at the town's harbor and the cliff-lined coast. During whale migration season, you might occasionally catch a glimpse of whales spouting on the ocean surface.Kiama · 9.1 km from Shell Cove

The blowhole is located in the small town of Kiama. Kiama is not far south of Wollongong, and Wollongong is not far south of Sydney. There is a direct highway from Sydney to Kiama, which is very convenient for self-driving. The scenery along the way is beautiful. You can see the constant changes and integration of cities, forests, wilderness, mountains, pastures, cliffs, oceans, towns, and cities. Therefore, it is highly recommended to drive from Sydney to Kiama. 😍The highlight of Kiama is the blowhole. The blowhole can spray water thanks to a wonderful structure of rock. It consists of two parts: one is an underground trumpet-shaped seawater channel, and the other is a vertical hole connecting the end of the trumpet-shaped seawater channel to the upper rock platform, that is, the blowhole. Kiama faces the vast Tasman Sea. There are often strong winds from the ocean that blow up big waves. The big waves rush into the trumpet-shaped seawater channel. As you go deeper into the channel, the channel becomes narrower and narrower. The squeezing force of the seawater on the surrounding rock walls becomes greater and greater, and the speed of the seawater becomes faster and faster. When it reaches the hole, a large amount of seawater is pressed upward at high speed, forming the famous water spray landscape. The stronger the wind, the more spectacular the landscape. 😯 Fortunately, when I came to Kiama, the wind speed was very high. On the one hand, I had to endure the erosion of the strong wind, and on the other hand, I could also witness the magnificent natural power. 😅 However, when the wind is strong, it is not recommended to get close to the viewing platform below, because the big waves and strong winds add up to one or more free sea baths. 😂The water spray landscape often appears with rainbows! The more spectacular the water spray landscape, the greater the chance of a rainbow appearing! Find a suitable angle and the right time, you can see a complete rainbow bridge! 😀You might as well look around! You can see the cliffs stretching endlessly to both sides, the small villages dotted among the lush green lawns on the cliffs, and the white lighthouse behind you quietly guarding the blue ocean in front of you for who knows how many years. 😊More importantly, it's completely free here! 🩷Here, if you don't have enough fun on your seaside trip, you can go north to Wollongong and visit the Sea Cliff Bridge and Royal National Park along the coastal road, where there are more exciting things waiting to be explored!

Kiama town is a very classic attraction. Blue sky, white clouds, rippling blue waves, seagulls, lighthouses, rocks and waves. It is highly recommended to stay here for a while, it is a very quiet town. There is also a fish shop selling home-caught fish at the pier, which is very fresh.

Free transfer from chinatown, 1.5-2hr ride to sky diving location. Upon reaching, will be asked to review forms and if want to get the photo package. Next will be waiting to get called, theres many ppl waitijg to jump and its in a group of 7 so we will just wait around until they will call ur name to inform if you are next. I was the 2nd last group so had to wait around 1.5-2hrs. Anyway we would need to wait for everyone to finished so that the bus would leave. Instructors were very friendly! But they were doing jump after jump so it's a quick turn around. 15mins van ride to the 'airport', watch a safety video and then on to the plane. Plane ride about 10-15mins and the sky dive experience was quick fast, 5mins and down on the ground. My instructor was nice, let me play with the handle and turn left and right. Very cool and nice experience and will definitely do it again!

As the largest temple in the Southern Hemisphere, Nan Tien Temple is located in the beautiful Wollongong, less than 2 hours away from Sydney. The weather is good, and the photos taken are also beautiful, with blue sky and white clouds! After worshiping Buddha, I had some vegetarian food at the noodle bar on the first floor. The appearance is very good, and the taste is also very good. Starting from Sydney, one day's round trip time is still quite sufficient, it is worth a visit!

Kiama Water Cave is located in Sydney, Australia, not far from the city center. It has a very unique scenery. On the colorful and magnificent seashore, after years of tidal erosion, a natural water cave has formed on the rocks by the sea. Whenever the tide is high, this water cave can spray out water columns more than ten meters high, which is very spectacular!

The theater isn't very large, so the view from the second floor was excellent, and the actors' performances were very lifelike, with very interesting dialogue. Plus, the theater has a beautiful terrace with floor-to-ceiling windows; I took some lovely photos there in the afternoon!

Amazing whale-watching experience in Sydney! 🐋I really enjoyed this experience from start to finish. The scenery and the whole environment were absolutely beautiful, and we were lucky enough to see a lot of whales! It was amazing watching them in their natural environment, and the experience was even better than I expected. Definitely a great activity to do while visiting Sydney, and I would happily recommend it to others!
