Jishan Jiwang Temple (National Cultural Relic)
Located in Jishan County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, it was first built in the Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt in 1843 (the 23rd year of the Daoguang Emperor's reign in the Qing Dynasty). Jiwang refers to Houji, whose original name was Ji Qi. He was the ancestor of the Zhou tribe and the founder of Chinese agricultural civilization, revered as the god of agriculture and grain. The term "Sheji" (社稷) originates from him, referring to the god of grain; "She" (社) refers to the god of earth.
The Offering Hall, Main Hall, and Jiangyuan Hall feature wood carvings and stone engravings.
The Offering Hall has a gable roof with glazed tiles. The lintel of the front eaves is decorated with reliefs depicting ancient agricultural activities such as plowing, sowing, harvesting, and threshing.
The Main Hall has a double-eaved hip roof with 20 stone-carved pillars, including two in the central bay with reliefs of coiled dragons. The stone balustrade of the corridor is composed of 52 stone slabs depicting flowers, exquisitely carved.
The pillars and beams of the front and rear of the Jiwang Hall are carved with various scenes of agricultural activities, and a large stone carving is embedded in the inner side of the east and west walls of the hall.
