Confucius Temple-Qinhuai Scenic Area

The Confucius Temple-Qinhuai Scenic Area refers to the Qinhuai River area centered around the Confucius Temple, where the streets, alleys, residences, and historical sites along both banks form a continuous stretch. It has been a bustling and lively part of Nanjing since ancient times. The line "The swallows that skimmed by painted eaves in bygone days are dipping now among the humble homes' doorways" by Liu Yuxi describes this very place. The Wuyi Lane mentioned in the poem still lies hidden among the alleys near the Confucius Temple. Exploring history along the river is the highlight of this area: The Dacheng hall of Confucius temple stands by the water, with a towering screen wall across the Pan pond in front; the nearby Jiangnan examination hall was the imperial testing site for provincial exams during the Ming and Qing dynasties, now replaced by the China imperial examination museum; Zhan garden and Egret isle park both originated from the mansion gardens of Xu Da's family, a founding general of the Ming dynasty—the former also houses the Taiping heavenly kingdom history museum; scattered along both banks within walking distance are historical sites like Meixiang tower (former residence of "Peach blossom fan" heroine Li Xiangjun), the well-preserved Zhonghua gate with its urn-shaped defense system, Wu Jingzi's residence (author of "The scholars"), and ancient ferry relics like Taoye crossing, easily connected into a historical walking trail. Cuisine is also a signature feature of this area: "The eight Qinhuai delicacies" refer to sixteen famous dishes from eight time-honored snack restaurants, including Yongheyuan's crab-shell yellow sesame cakes and dried shrimp shreds, Qifangge's duck oil crispy cakes and sesame oil dried shreds, Jiangyouji's beef pot stickers, and Lianhu pastry shop's osmanthus-filled glutinous rice balls. The Confucius Temple area and Laomendong are lined with teahouses, snack shops, and various stores, offering plenty of opportunities to rest and grab a bite when tired, along with the chance to pick up some souvenirs. The highlight comes after nightfall: board a painted boat from the pier in front of the Confucius Temple, listen to the guide while admiring the white walls and black tiles illuminated by riverside lanterns—this is the classic "night mooring on the Qinhuai" experience. From Chinese New Year to the Lantern Festival each year, the Qinhuai River Lantern Festival (also known as the Jinling Lantern Festival), listed as a national intangible cultural heritage, takes place here. The Confucius Temple, Laomendong, and along the Qinhuai River are adorned with lanterns and decorations. "Visiting the Confucius Temple to see lanterns during New Year" remains a cherished tradition for Nanjing locals. Even on ordinary days, the area buzzes with cultural temple fairs, food festivals, and other celebrations, offering unique surprises in different seasons.

The Best Spring In The World

The Best Spring In The World is located in downtown Jinan, featuring "one river (the moat), one lake (Daming Lake), three springs (the Baotu Spring, Heihu Spring, and Wulongtan spring clusters), and four parks (Baotu Spring Park, Huancheng Park, Wulongtan Park, and Daming Lake Park)." The attraction centers around Baotu Spring, renowned as the "No. 1 Spring Under Heaven." Its waters flow into rivers and converge into lakes, harmoniously blending with the ancient Mingfu City. To the north lies Wulongtan (Five Dragon Pool), while to the east stretches Jinan's Huancheng Park (home to the Black Tiger Spring and other springs), both highly celebrated in Jinan. These springs boast exceptional water quality. Daming Lake, a natural lake formed by the convergence of numerous springs, receives water from its southern shore. When full, the water flows out through the Northern Water Gate, built during the Song Dynasty on the lake's north shore. The lakebed consists of impermeable igneous rock, preventing flooding during heavy rains or drought. Often described as "a confluence of springs merging to embrace the Jiluo region," it's hailed as the "Pearl of the Spring City." Similarly, the moat formed by spring waters encircles the ancient city like a jade belt, offering scenic cruise rides along its course. The attraction boasts stunning natural scenery and rich cultural heritage, featuring not only springs, rivers, and lakes but also numerous historical landmarks. Highlights include the Chaoran Tower dating back to the Yuan Dynasty and the Luoyuan Hall originally built during the Northern Wei Dynasty (now a Ming-era structure). Historical sites include the Luoshang Terrace, the former residence site of Qin Qiong, and the Beishui Gate. Notable former residences include the Nanfeng Ancestral Hall, Jiaxuan Ancestral Hall, Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall and Yi'an Old Residence, Tiegong Ancestral Hall, and Lao She Memorial Hall. Red tourism sites include the Jinan Massacre Memorial and the former site of the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The Qinhuai River, stretching for ten miles, is a hub of culture. Lanterns reflect on the water, and painted boats glide across the waves. On one side lies the thousand-year-old cultural heritage of the Confucius Temple and the Jiangnan Examination Hall, while on the other side are the bustling streets, snacks, and lively atmosphere of the city. Elegance and popular culture blend together here, and the night view of Nanjing unfolds along the riverbank.

Luoma Lake Beach Park is an artificial beach with numerous sand sculptures. Strolling through it, one might feel as if they are in the sands of Egypt. Especially at sunset, the sky is ablaze with color, painting the water red, and the interplay of light and shadow on the lake is exceptionally beautiful. Take a leisurely stroll, feel the lakeside breeze, admire the sand sculptures, and watch the sunset. You don't need to expect the grandeur of the ocean; the lake scenery has its own unique charm.

This was my first time visiting Baotu Spring. I went in the afternoon to avoid the crowds, so the experience wasn't too bad. The three springs were bubbling away, and the water was crystal clear. No wonder it's called the City of Springs! 👍

Visiting a real tomb-turned-tomb site for the first time, I was truly awestruck by the wisdom of the Han Dynasty people. The anti-theft notice written by Liu Zhu, "There's no silver buried here," was also quite interesting and a novel experience. Outside, there's a beautiful garden, many interesting stone carvings, and plaques treasured in the Imperial Edict Museum—it was quite impressive.

Lian Island Scenic Area boasts beautiful scenery, soft sandy beaches, and clear waters. The island offers numerous seafood stalls, making it ideal for a relaxing vacation. The scenic area is well-managed and has excellent facilities, but it can get crowded during peak season. Overall, it was a good experience, and I recommend visiting outside of peak times. I visited during off-peak season, which contributed to my excellent experience.

The most worthwhile scenic spot to visit in Suqian is Xiang Yu's hometown. The scenic area is clean and tidy. The Xiang Yu sculpture at the entrance is very nice, but the purple flowers decorating the gate are too out of place and a flaw.
