The Longmen Grottoes are definitely worth a visit. Walking along the Yi River, the West Hill Grottoes are a sight to behold, with countless caves densely embedded in the cliff face; the deeper you go, the more captivating they become. The most awe-inspiring sight is undoubtedly the Vairocana Buddha. Standing at its feet and looking up, its face is both compassionate and majestic; it seems to bring peace to your heart with just a glance.
However, there are quite a few steps, and your legs will ache a bit afterward. Even in the off-season, it can be crowded, so I recommend going early or in the evening when the light is softer and you can wait for the lights to come on, making the Buddha even more majestic in the night. From the East Hill, you can enjoy panoramic views, and taking photos of the Buddha and the Yi River together is truly beautiful.
