the light and the dark are impressive .

Machiya, an important cultural property in Higashihiroshima City. A wide dirt floor when you cross the entrance facing the slope. There are many large boards and tatami mats on the left. When your eyes get used to the darkness, there are magnificent beams and sculpted trees overhead. If you go through the dirt, you can go to a bright courtyard.

Why? An old house of a wealthy merchant in the Edo period in such a mountain ...? I was convinced after hearing the explanation of the local guide. (Laughs) In the Edo period, the development of salt fields (salt making) was actively carried out in the Takehara area, which was quite far from here, but it was the Kihara family, a wealthy merchant in Shiraichi who ruled it. This is a valuable museum and building where you can see old salt making techniques and associated tools. You should definitely see the valuable materials and houses of salt wealthy merchants in the Edo period!

Nearby, the appearance of the Edo period remains.

    Original Text

It is an old townhouse that remains in Shiraichi, Takayacho, Higashihiroshima nationwide. Since the early Edo period, a city called Shiraichi has been standing here and has become the place name. The story that my grandfather came home with a calf is often talked about at my wife's parents' house in Hachihonmatsu, but the former farmer used cattle and horses to cultivate paddy fields and treat them like family members. The Kihara family seems to have been a wealthy merchant who brews and transports widely revered in this area. The surrounding houses remain the same as the Edo period, and when you walk, you feel like you have slipped back in time.
