It is like a branch of a museum in Chiba Prefecture. We introduce the history and customs around the Tone River, mainly in Sabara. Although it is compact, it is an exhibition with a strong content.
There was a guide on the road I happened to go by, so we, who like museums, were naturally sucked in. Admission is 200 yen for adults. It was a stay of less than an hour to see the regular exhibition, the old tools and the unpleasant exhibition, the swans and ducks outside. It was Sunday, but while we were there, there were no other visitors, so we asked the museum questions about the exhibition and told us in detail about other recommended places.
It's plain, but it's interesting to learn about water towns and water gates.

A normal water gate in Europe is rare in Japan. It connects rivers with different water levels. Water transportation using this Tone River was the main line from Tokaido in the Heian period, and probably peaked around the Edo period. There is also an exhibition of the water gate management and the tetrapot on the revetment, which is interesting here. And after all, it's free for people over 65 years old, so I want you to use it more.
It is adjacent to the aquatic botanical garden. There is an exit that can be reached directly from the botanical garden, but it is difficult to understand, so ask. I think many people go home only in the aquatic botanical garden, but it's much better than I expected, so if you have time, please go there.

Cut the cost?
It is a very interesting facility that exhibits the traditions of the water town. However, I was sad to see the dead fish left in the aquarium.
