We visited the gallery both to look at artwork and to consider investing in artwork.Maddox were extremely attentive when they heard we were considering investing large amount of money into artUnfortunately, me and my husband’s confidence in art as an investment has been damaged by my encounter with Maddox Gallery's. In particular their investment services sales staff who are very helpful when you have money to spend but disinterested when it comes time to cash in the investment. When we visited the next time, again, very helpful. But that was when we had yet to buy artwork. In contrast to financial advisors, banks, insurance brokers, and stockbrokers, galleries are not required, though they are welcome to register voluntarily, with the FCA. That means that when clients receive investment advice from galleries, they are not protected in the same way as they are from all other types of financial advice. As a customer, the marketing materials provided by Maddox Gallery state that they will create an investment portfolio of artwork specifically tailored to meet my needs. I was informed that finding artwork takes a lot of work. The literature on Maddox Gallery omits to state that they actually choose pieces of art from the small group of artists they work with on a commercial basis and present that as my customized recommendations In Maddox Gallery literature they repeatedly reference average profits of their customers, but my experience is that the artwork recommended has fallen way behind the art market in general and in reality made a substantial loss In the times we have been back since we handed over our money to invest, we have been completely ignoredMy husband has written repeatedly to the business and owner and been ignored. All in all our visits to Maddox Gallery’s various premises have been very mixed. At the start they were wonderful, but after we had handed over our money the visits were awful.

I first visited Maddox Gallery in 2020. They were very helpful and attentive. They told me that they woud create a collection of artwork specifically for me and my goals. Which was ideal as we know little of art and would not have the time to go all over the country or world looking for artwork. The gallery made their recommendations, which we accepted and spent a lot of money onHowever, when we came to sell the work Maddox gallery were completed different. Their communication was terrible , we had to constantly chase and we had to drop the price several times And when we looked into the matter the artwork we had bought came from the gallery's own 'stock' ie artists whom they work with and not as promised from the wider art market. Plus they got paid a fee for selling it to usEveryone’s personal experience is different, but we very much felt like once the first transaction was completed, our value and therefore their interest fell away
