Is the eurail pass more cost-effective? – Eurail pass vs one-way ticket
Whether it's worth it depends entirely on your itinerary
- Long single-ride distance, more cost-effective for multiple rides within one day
- Prefer highly flexible itineraries with longer playtime for better value
- Overall, the itinerary including Switzerland and Germany offers better value
When last-minute travel plans prevent you from getting discounted tickets, a pass offers better value.

Pass validity
Activation date refers to the first date of use selected when linking the pass in the app.
1. Before linking and activating the pass in the app
This pass is valid for activation within 11 months from the date of ticket issuance (purchase) (except for promotional products with specified terms) and will expire thereafter.
For example, if the pass is purchased on Jan 1, it remains valid for 11 months from Jan 1 before activation and can be activated on any day within this 11-month period.
2. After linking and activating the pass in the app
[Continuous]
From the first travel date selected when linking the pass to the app, the pass validity period begins and must be used consecutively for N days.
For example, if you purchase a 15-day consecutive package on Jan 1 and choose Feb 1 as the start date when linking the app, the expiration date will be calculated from Feb 1 (your selected activation date) and end on Feb 15.

From the first travel date selected when linking the pass to the app, you can choose any N days within X months based on the pass's expiration date and duration, including the first usage date selected during activation.

3. Can multiple passes be linked to one device?
You can add multiple passes to your device as needed. After activating a pass during your trip, you can also transfer it to another device (only one transfer allowed). If you're traveling as a group with multiple passes stored on one device, all members must travel together throughout all journeys.
If traveling with multiple people, one mobile device can activate multiple tickets simultaneously. If there are multiple passes on your device, please note the following:
(1) Each pass requires creating a separate itinerary in the app
(2) If you have already created an itinerary, you can copy the existing one and link the copy to another pass. Please name each itinerary differently to manage all itineraries.
During ticket verification, present the ticket for each pass member. Tap "Show ticket" after selecting other passes in "My pass".
The ticket inspector will scan the QR code to verify if the train you're boarding matches the one displayed on your ticket. They will also check your personal info and may request to see your passport or ID.
4. Traveling with children?
Children's passes need to be activated like regular passes and can be stored on a separate device. A child's pass should always have its own travel and ticket information for inspection during train journeys.
Children under 4 years old can travel for free without needing a separate pass.
