Is the eurail pass more cost-effective?Eurail pass vs one-way ticket

Whether it's worth it depends entirely on your itinerary

- Long single-ride distance, more cost-effective for multiple rides within one day

- Prefer highly flexible itineraries with longer playtime for better value

- Overall, the itinerary including Switzerland and Germany offers better value

When last-minute travel plans prevent you from getting discounted tickets, a pass offers better value.

Pass validity

Activation date refers to the first date of use selected when linking the pass in the app.

1. Before linking and activating the pass in the app

This pass is valid for activation within 11 months from the date of ticket issuance (purchase) (except for promotional products with specified terms) and will expire thereafter.

For example, if the pass is purchased on Jan 1, it remains valid for 11 months from Jan 1 before activation and can be activated on any day within this 11-month period.

2. After linking and activating the pass in the app

[Continuous]

From the first travel date selected when linking the pass to the app, the pass validity period begins and must be used consecutively for N days.

For example, if you purchase a 15-day consecutive package on Jan 1 and choose Feb 1 as the start date when linking the app, the expiration date will be calculated from Feb 1 (your selected activation date) and end on Feb 15.

Flexible

From the first travel date selected when linking the pass to the app, you can choose any N days within X months based on the pass's expiration date and duration, including the first usage date selected during activation.

For example, if you purchase a flexible package for any 4 days within 1 month and choose Feb 1 as the start date when linking the app, the validity period will be within one month from Feb 1, allowing you to select any 4 days for use.

Pass activation process

1. How to activate and use the pass? Step-by-step guide (tap to view, please wait if loading is slow):

,

Video:

(You can switch languages in the upper right corner: Chinese/English, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese) to learn how to activate your Eurail global pass or one-country pass on your mobile or computer.

2. How do I download the app on a Huawei phone?

Download the Huawei Outbound Easy app, download the Google app, and then download the Rail Planner app within the Google app.

3. Can multiple passes be linked to one device?

You can add multiple passes to your device as needed. After activating a pass during your trip, you can also transfer it to another device (only one transfer allowed). If you're traveling as a group with multiple passes stored on one device, all members must travel together throughout all journeys.

If traveling with multiple people, one mobile device can activate multiple tickets simultaneously. If there are multiple passes on your device, please note the following:

(1) Each pass requires creating a separate itinerary in the app

(2) If you have already created an itinerary, you can copy the existing one and link the copy to another pass. Please name each itinerary differently to manage all itineraries.

During ticket verification, present the ticket for each pass member. Tap "Show ticket" after selecting other passes in "My pass".

The ticket inspector will scan the QR code to verify if the train you're boarding matches the one displayed on your ticket. They will also check your personal info and may request to see your passport or ID.

4. Traveling with children?

Children's passes need to be activated like regular passes and can be stored on a separate device. A child's pass should always have its own travel and ticket information for inspection during train journeys.

Children under 4 years old can travel for free without needing a separate pass.

Child: 4–11 years old
Senior: 60 years old and above
Youth: 12–27 years old
1. Children aged 4–11 can travel for free when booked with an Adult Ticket holder. Each adult can bring up to 2 free children, and they must be booked together with the pass. Starting from the 3rd child, a youth pass must be purchased separately. 2. Infants aged 3 and below can travel with an adult without a ticket. If a seat is required, please purchase a child pass for the infant. 3. The child pass must match the accompanying adult pass (same pass type, class, travel days, and expiration date). The child and adult must also share the same country of residence. If their actual countries of residence differ, the child pass should reflect the adult's country of residence. 4. Passengers holding a Senior or youth pass cannot bring children for free. For details on purchasing non-free child tickets, please contact customer support.
How to use
1. Once your pass is issued, you'll receive a confirmation email from Trip.com containing your booking name and pass number (Ticket number, usually a 6-digit alphanumeric combination). Each name corresponds to one Ticket number.

2. Please activate your pass in the Rail Planner App before your first train ride and select the date of your first trip. Note that you can only board trains after activation.

3. Plan your itinerary in advance and save it (see details on the details page). When boarding, show the QR code in the Rail Planner App to the train staff for inspection. For routes requiring seat reservations, also present your reservation details.

Each travel day will have a separate ticket with a QR code. The ticket inspector will scan the QR code to verify if your train journey is included in your ticket. They will also check your seat reservation and personal details, and may ask to see your passport. With a first-class ticket, you can travel in second-class carriages without refunding the price difference.

5. Please carry your passport with you, as the conductor may check it.

6. Most train stations in Europe do not require security checks or ticket inspections. We recommend arriving at the station 30 minutes before your departure time to confirm your train schedule. Platform information for European trains is typically displayed on station screens 10 minutes prior to departure, so please stay updated via the mobile app and station announcements.

7. If the train is delayed or canceled due to force majeure, check the app immediately for alternative train numbers to the same destination, or seek assistance from station staff.

We recommend downloading the Route Train Company app and using it together with Google for convenient real-time train information updates.

Important note:

1. Please check if seat reservations are required for your route. If the route shows "Seat reservations required" when checking in the app, it means you need to reserve seats separately for this route. If seat reservations are required, in addition to saving your itinerary in the app, you must also reserve seats according to the specific route and method. Check the details page for reservation methods.

2. For other info about the expiration date, how to activate and cancel the Eurail Pass, how to check if seat reservation is required, how to reserve seats, and detailed instructions on how to use it, please refer to the product details page.

3. Huawei phone users can find the app download method on the details page.

4. In case of fines, please collect all documents, including various tickets, to seek assistance from Eurail staff.
