New South is a small town in the southern Dutch province of Norte, with beautiful scenery and rural pastoral style. It is also an open-air museum consisting of 23 houses and suburban attractions directly related to Van Gogh’s life and work. Vincent van Gogh lived in New South for two years from December 1883 (until November 1885). The artist's work in Newnan accounts for a quarter of his total. His oil paintings and sketches involve mainly weavers and farmers in the fields, but he also goes out from time to time to sketch his surroundings. His first masterpiece, The Man Who Eats Potatoes, was born here.
