An old temple built as an imperial edict of emperor Koko in the Heian period. The large eleven-faced Kannon statue of the principal image is a Buddhist statue in the late Heian period, one of the three Kannon statues in Japan, along with Hase-dera Temple in Nara and Hase-dera Temple in Kamakura, and is said to be an important cultural property designated by the country.
