Take the east exit of Iidabashi Station on the JR Sobu Line and head south toward Kudanshita on the left side of Mejiro-dori. In front of the monument, there is the Tokyo Ward Government Hall, and on the left side of the entrance is a monument jointly created by "Nihon University and Kokugakuin University". Let's see this as well.
This is one of the 13 historical promenades facing Mejiro-dori from Iidabashi to Kudanshita. In 1882, the Koten Kogyosho was established in this area, former Iida-cho 5-chome, to study Japanese classical literature. In 1890, Kokugakuin was opened by the director, Akiyoshi Yamada, based on the Koten Kogyosho. It is now kokugakuin University.
In 1881, the Koten Kogyosho was established here, and it was later handed down to Kokugakuin University, so it became the place where the school opened. Nearby is the site of the opening of Nihon University, which is due to the predecessor of the Japanese Law School attached to the Koten Kogyosho.
One of the information boards of the Iidabashi promenade scattered along Mejiro-dori. It seems that the current Kokugakuin University has its roots from the Koten Shokosho, which was built in 1897.
