From mid-to-late September, the grasslands begin to turn yellow. Nalati and Kalajun shift from green to gold, offering even more depth than in summer. Daytime temperatures are 15–25°C, but you will need a jacket in the morning and evening. The Duku Highway may close due to snow between late September and early October, so do not pack your itinerary too tightly. Here is your guide👇 🚗 Transportation Guide Fly into Yining Airport, or take a train from Urumqi to Yining Station. It is about 680 km from Urumqi to Yili, which takes a full day to drive. The distances between attractions in Yili are significant, so hiring a car with a driver is the most common choice. 📍the spot where I took photos ten years ago has now become the popular Songshutou attraction! There's a lake-loop road now, making driving really convenient🚗, but overall, it feels too commercialized, and the management is struggling to keep up. 😤A few things I really want to complain about: ❌ Parking is difficult: There are spots at Songshutou in the morning, but in the afternoon, there are none, and it's super congested! When it's crowded, they really should implement a reservation system to limit flow. With everyone stuck there, who has the mood to enjoy the scenery? ❌ Inflated prices: Things inside the scenic area aren't cheap, and the pricing seems arbitrary. ❌ Hotels are the biggest rip-off: Expensive and poor quality! I can accept higher prices, but can the facilities and service at least keep up?🏨 🌊The beauty of Sayram Lake goes without saying. The lake water is unbelievably blue, with snow-capped mountains reflected on the surface—every photo you take looks like a masterpiece! But with such amazing natural resources, I really hope it can be managed properly. On this Xinjiang trip, I took my time driving and exploring. While revisiting old spots, I also went to some new places, and Sayram Lake was the biggest disappointment😮💨. Honestly, before I came here, I didn't believe a lake could be so beautiful it leaves you speechless.
Starting from Yining, heading west along the Lianyungang-Horgos Expressway, the Tianshan Mountains and the Gobi Desert are outside the window 🏔️ After driving for nearly 2 hours, when the GPS said we were 3 kilometers from the East Gate, I suddenly caught a glimpse of a line of blue in the distance through the car window—not the blue of the sea or the sky, but a color between a gemstone and a dream ✨ I thought I was seeing things, so I rubbed my eyes. The blue was still there, and it was getting wider. At that moment, I truly understood the name "The Last Tear of the Atlantic" 💧 The warm, moist air currents from the Atlantic traveled across the entire Eurasian continent, covering thousands of miles, only to stop at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains and transform into this alpine lake at an altitude of 2,073 meters. The water vapor couldn't go any further, like a farewell spanning the continent. It's a sweltering 38°C in Urumqi 🔥 But at Sayram Lake, the daytime high is just over 20°C, and the temperature by the lake can drop to 15°C or even lower in the early morning ❄️ I wrapped my windbreaker tight and stood on the wooden bridge at Qinshuitan. The lake water was so clear I could see every pebble at the bottom. The transparency reaches 12 meters—scientific measurements show that from certain angles on the shore, you can see pebbles 3 or 4 stories deep underwater 🏊♂️ Driving counter-clockwise around the 92-kilometer lake, entering through the East Gate and exiting through the South Gate, the blue at every stop is different 🌈 The blue at Moon Bay is soft, like a curved blue silk ribbon; the blue at Keleyongzhu is the clearest, with springs constantly bubbling up and swans swimming right beside you, completely unafraid of people 🦢 Looking down from the top of Dianjiangtai, the entire lake looks like a giant blue sapphire, with the distant snow-capped mountains reflected on the surface, shattering and reforming with every breeze. Time slows down here ⏳ I ate half a naan by the lake and watched the swans for 40 minutes. The speed limit around the lake is 30–40 km/h, and you can only park at designated viewing platforms 🚗 Definitely bring a windbreaker 🧥 Even at noon in July, the wind by the lake can make the temperature feel 10 degrees lower. I saw people who came in short sleeves and shorts retreat to their cars within 10 minutes. If time permits, stay for the sunset 🌅 Dianjiangtai is the best spot for sunset. As the sun sets behind the snow-capped mountains, the lake surface changes from blue to gold, then to purple, and finally, the Milky Way rises and reflects on the water 🌌 That feeling isn't something "beautiful" can describe; it's when you suddenly quiet down and feel that the long journey was worth it. The Atlantic traveled thousands of miles to leave this tear; you traveling a few hundred kilometers to see it is really nothing at all 💙

It truly lives up to its name as the "last tear of the Atlantic"! If you know, you know, guys 😭 · —— Here's a quick 24-hour guide to Sayram Lake 👇 First, I have to give a shout-out to our treasure of a driver! He's Gen Z, super reliable, and great at taking photos 📸 He arranged everything from jump shots to atmospheric drone footage. We were spoiled with hundreds of photos and video clips 🥹 The whole experience was top-tier! 🗺️ [Itinerary] Enter in the afternoon of the first day (clockwise tour) ➡️ Exit at noon on the second day (counter-clockwise tour) Day 1: Enter the lake in the afternoon on a cloudy day Entered the Sayram Lake expressway area around 2:00 PM. The lake is absolutely stunning in the direct sunlight ✨ Entered the scenic area via the East Gate just before 3:00 PM. The weather was great at first, but it turned cloudy later, making the scenery a bit less impressive. Key takeaway ‼️ Don't wait around when the weather is good; stop and snap photos as soon as you see a beautiful view! The swans were super cute 🦢 The lighting was perfect around 11:30 AM, making for amazing photos. We didn't hike up Songshutou (too windy + not really interested), and exited via the South Gate at noon, heading straight to Yining. Our driver also took us to photograph the Guozigou Bridge 🌉 Basically, we checked off the same photo spot as Li Xian! 🏨 [Accommodation Recommendation] I highly recommend the Sayram Lake Intercity Hotel! The rooms are large, the lake view is amazing, and the service is great. They also provide breakfast, afternoon tea, and late-night snacks; the food is on point 🍽️ The indoor temperature is comfortable (anyone who has traveled in Northern Xinjiang knows how important this is 😌) The tourism facilities at Sayram Lake are much better than in Altay. Arriving from out of town: It's best to fly into Yining✈️, then carpool or drive to the East Gate of Sayram Lake. Most accommodations at Sayram Lake are concentrated around the East Gate area, which also has restaurants. The park entrance is also located here. Be sure to climb the pine tree tower early in the morning; otherwise, it will be very crowded and parking will be difficult. Climbing up and seeing the view of Sayram Lake from the top was definitely worth the trip! It took me three hours to slowly climb and enjoy the view!

I'm dying of laughter! Apparently, it's called Pattaya because they actually created a Pattaya! Hahahaha! The hot spring next door had ridiculously long queues during Chinese New Year, so I went to Pattaya instead. It was still crowded, but luckily I arrived at noon and managed to get a soak. The environment was quite nice, and there were tons of kids. It's definitely a great choice for a family outing. Remember to wear your own swimming cap! Swimming caps are mandatory in the pool! Although it wasn't the kind of romantic hot spring I was hoping for, it was still a lot of fun!
