Travel back to the Song Dynasty in a second! The festive atmosphere of the New Year in Daming Ancient City is irresistible — traveler post in Daming

Travel back to the Song Dynasty in a second! The festive atmosphere of the New Year in Daming Ancient City is irresistible

As dusk falls, an ancient city gently touched by time slowly unfolds before your eyes. Some say the most beautiful moment in Daming begins at sunset and awakens under the bright lanterns. When Hongjing Pavilion is instantly illuminated, it feels like a ceremony spanning a thousand years. The entire Song Street transforms into a flowing river of lights, with lanterns reflecting the smiles of the Lunar New Year. The next morning, I put on a Hanfu and walked into the ancient city’s Confucian Temple. With vermilion walls and black tiles under the lattice star gate, time seemed to slow down. Turning to Song Street, this street holds the code of history. The three museums—Stone Carving, Canal, and Ancient City Ruins—stand side by side, like opening a three-dimensional county chronicle. Taste is the fastest way to understand a city. The legendary flavors of “258”—Ermao Roast Chicken, Wubai Sausage, Guoba Fire Bake—are the New Year’s flavor symbols engraved on Daming’s palate. Strolling through the city, the majesty of the government office, the scholarly atmosphere of the academy, and the porcelain charm of the old hall together sketch the profound cultural texture of this ancient city. At night, stories are told in a different way. At the digital government office, a light touch awakens the legend of Detective Di Renjie. And not to be missed is the city’s dazzling light show. Sound, light, and electricity dance with the thousand-year-old city walls, pushing the Lunar New Year celebration to its peak. This is also where the craft of straw weaving continues, a hometown nostalgia in the heart of the legendary singer Teresa Teng. Daming is a city that perfectly blends deep history with warm daily life. Three days and two nights feel like a journey through time. From the brilliant lights to the morning Confucian Temple, from the fireworks on the tongue to the light and shadow at your fingertips… Daming taught me how to embrace history gently and celebrate a Chinese New Year that is rich in flavor yet simple, a name that will be passed down forever.

Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture - If you love spice curry, you have to go to "Kubokari"! Their smooth chicken curry is delicious!

Fukuoka is a curry paradise! So, I finally visited Kubokari's Oogusu branch, a place I'd wanted to go to for a long time. Exterior The exterior looks like an apartment building!? The parking lot in front of the store isn't Kubokari's, so I used a nearby coin parking lot. Kubokari They recently opened a branch in Daimyo, but I really wanted to come to the Oogusu location. Interior The interior has both table seating and tatami-style low tables. The retro interior with its Showa-era atmosphere is great. Menu The menu only has two options: "Today's Special" and "The Usual Special." "Today's Special" is pork vindaloo, and "The Usual Special" is a combination of smooth chicken curry and chicken and burdock keema. Since it was my first time at the restaurant, I decided to order the basic "Usual Special." The Usual Special This smooth chicken curry is incredibly delicious! As the name suggests, it's a very runny curry, with the sweetness of onions and the umami of chicken brought together by simple spices. The spiciness is distinctive, gradually building up afterwards. The chicken and burdock keema served alongside also has a gentle spice profile and a deep flavor. Delicious! Cilantro served separately I ordered extra cilantro as a topping, and it came on a separate plate. It's delicious when you mix it into the runny curry! I definitely want to visit the Daimyo branch next time. This one's a bit far. But Fukuoka has so many delicious curry restaurants! I feel like I eat curry at least once every time I'm here, but there are still so many curry restaurants I want to try! Daming has two ancient cities, one of which has been buried underground for over 600 years. — traveler post in Daming

Daming has two ancient cities, one of which has been buried underground for over 600 years.

Many people visiting Daming in Handan explore the ancient city and see the city walls. But you might not know this: The Daming Ancient City we see today is not the once-famous "Beijing Daming Prefecture." That's right, Daming was indeed called "Beijing" during the Northern Song Dynasty. In 1042, Emperor Renzong of Song designated Daming Prefecture as a secondary capital. At that time, Daming was an important political, military, and commercial center in the north. However, in 1401, a great flood changed everything. The Zhanghe and Weihe rivers overflowed, burying the old Daming Prefecture city under silt. Later, instead of rebuilding on the original site, people chose another location to build a new city. This resulted in the two ancient cities of Daming we see today. One is the Ming and Qing Dynasty Daming Ancient City, which can still be visited today. The other is the site of the Northern Song Dynasty Daming Prefecture city, buried deep underground in the Dajie Town area. Even more interestingly, archaeological research has revealed that the old city once had a triple structure: an outer city, an inner city, and a palace city, forming a layout resembling the Chinese character "回" (hui). A city that was once so prosperous now has most of its ruins quietly remaining beneath the earth. Meanwhile, just a few kilometers away, in another ancient city called Daming, people still live, shops exist, streets and alleys exist, and people come and go. A flood wiped one city out of history, but it also began a new story for another. What Daming is most worth knowing is perhaps not just the ancient city walls before our eyes. There is also the unseen, yet still underground, "Beijing Daming Prefecture". #Handan #DamingCounty #BeijingDamingPrefecture #DamingAncientCity #HandanCityGuide #HebeiHistory #CityObservation

[Fukuoka] Halloween Limited! Adorable Pudding Affogato and Black Latte.

At LATTE ART MANIA FUKUOKA, I tried their Halloween limited-edition sweets. For the pudding affogato, I added the puppy and panda toppings. They were so cute, and the presentation of drizzling strawberry sauce at the end was a fun, Halloween-themed touch that I really enjoyed. For drinks, I had the Halloween Black Matcha Latte and the Halloween Black Hojicha Latte. The pitch-black look despite being matcha and hojicha was so unique, and the latte art was special for Halloween too. [What I Ordered] ・Pudding Affogato + Dog & Panda Toppings: 900 yen ・Halloween Black Matcha Latte: 1,000 yen ・Halloween Black Hojicha Latte: 1,000 yen These Halloween sweets are available for a limited time until October 31st. The inscriptions of Di Renjie have been passed down through the ages. The Daming stone inscriptions are the top stone inscriptions in China

Leaving the Yecheng Archaeological Museum in Linzhang, drive east for about an hour to reach Daming County. Historically known as "Beijing Daming Prefecture," Daming was the secondary capital of the Northern Song Dynasty and now quietly rests on the southern Hebei Plain. The goal of this trip is the stone inscription museum—an open-air stele forest housing the tallest and largest ancient stele in China, including one that forever links the name Di Renjie to this city. 📍Location: Daming stone inscription museum, Daming County, Handan City, Hebei 🎫Admission: free (ID required) ⏰Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (closed Monday) 🚗Transport: recommended to drive. Navigate to "Daming stone inscription museum." About 1.5 hours from Handan city center 🏆Highlights: Wuliji stele (national key cultural relic protection unit), Di Renjie shrine stele (national protection), Zhu Xi scripture inscription stele (provincial protection), Ma Wencao spirit way stele (provincial protection), He Hongjing epitaph (national protection) ⏳Recommended duration: 2–3 hours 🪨Wuliji stele—the "top stele in the world," a "single stele showing Tang and Song" Entering the museum gate and passing through a shaded corridor, the first thing you see is the Wuliji stele lying on the ground. Standing over 12 meters tall, it is the tallest and largest ancient stele still existing in China. The stele lies flat on a stone base, with the six-dragon pattern on the top clearly visible. A nearby plaque explains why it is called a "single stele showing Tang and Song"—this stele was originally a Tang Dynasty virtue stele for He Jintao, military governor of Weibo, inscribed by Liu Gongquan. During the Northern Song Zhenghe period, Emperor Huizong ordered the old text to be erased and replaced with his own imperial "New Rites of the Five Rites." The front of the stele is in slender gold script, while traces of Liu’s calligraphy remain on the side. On one stele, the strength of the Tang and the elegance of the Song coexist on the same stone surface—Liu Gongquan’s robust style and Emperor Huizong’s graceful script, separated by a stone crack, are neighbors within arm’s reach. The stele has been ground down, altered, and broken, but each scar tells its own story. 📜Di Renjie shrine stele—the people won’t let a good official be forgotten by time Not far from the Wuliji stele is a stele pavilion housing the Di Renjie shrine stele. Officially named "Great Tang Di Lianggong Shrine Stele," it was first erected in 698 to commemorate Di Renjie’s virtuous governance while defending Weizhou against the Khitan. Di Renjie’s time in Weizhou was brief, but the local people immediately built a shrine and erected a stele for him after he left. The stele’s 27 lines of regular script are precise, as if carefully completing an important task. True virtue is not measured by the length of your term but by whether people are willing to carve a stone for you after you leave. The people of Daming built a shrine and stele for him right after his departure. That stele has stood for 1,300 years, weathering wind, rain, and dynastic changes, yet it remains, as does Di Renjie’s place in the hearts of the people. 🖋️Zhu Xi scripture inscription stele—a rare handwritten work by the master of Neo-Confucianism The Zhu Xi scripture inscription stele is a Ming Dynasty re-carving of Zhu Xi’s handwritten classics, as the original no longer exists. The inscription is dignified and composed, reflecting Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucian philosophy—neither harsh nor severe, calm and reserved. As a calligraphic relic of the Neo-Confucian master, it is extremely rare among surviving steles. If you are interested in calligraphy or Song and Ming Neo-Confucianism, this stele is worth a close look. ⚔️Ma Wencao spirit way stele & He Hongjing epitaph—the true records of late Tang military governors The Ma Wencao spirit way stele, carved during the Later Jin of the Five Dynasties, records the military career of the Ma family through the late Tang, Later Liang, and Later Tang periods. It is an important historical artifact for studying the changes in late Tang military governors. The He Hongjing epitaph is even more impressive—it is the largest surviving Tang Dynasty epitaph, with nearly 3,000 words systematically recording the genealogy and military-political affairs of He Hongjing, military governor of Weibo in the late Tang. The calligraphy is precise and formal. These two steles carve the real details of the late Tang military governor era, line by line, into stone. ⚠️Practical tips · The stone inscription museum is located in Daming County. It is recommended to dedicate a separate day for this visit during your Handan itinerary · Some steles are displayed outdoors. Visit on clear days, as rain or snow may limit access to outdoor exhibits · Audio guides or guided tours are available for rent (about 50–80 yuan) · Flash photography is prohibited · Dining options nearby are limited. It is recommended to eat in Daming County before visiting

Daming Ancient City

The Damingfu Ming City Wall, a model of the Ming and Qing dynasty city defense system, was first built as part of the relocation project after a flood in 1401. It comprises a stone-founded brick wall, a cluster of gate towers arranged in a triangular pattern, and 36 artillery emplacements, forming a complete defensive system. Having undergone 12 renovations during the Ming and Qing dynasties, nine li (approximately 2.5 kilometers) of the wall remains to this day.

Super easy to climb! It's great for both experienced hikers and those with less stamina. My parents took the cable car and bus, while I took the bus and climbed. Everyone was happy! The only downside is that going too early can result in fog. If it's not a holiday, don't go too early; consider going after 9:00 AM. Once you're on the mountain, the fog will start to dissipate after 12:00 PM.

Jinci Temple Museum

We went in early August on a road trip. We stayed in the parking lot the night before, otherwise, the traffic would have been terrible during peak season. It has a strong historical feel, giving you a sense of traveling back a thousand years. The kids weren't particularly interested. It was too crowded during peak season, so the experience wasn't great. If there are fewer people, I would definitely recommend it.
