Ganzhou, Jiangxi, next to Guangdong, is a very niche treasure city. Last Chinese New Year, the festive vibe at Dingnan Hakka Ancient Town almost overflowed the screen, featuring traditional fish lantern parades, fireworks, drama performances, balloon releases, bonfire parties, and more—it was simply spectacular. The Chinese New Year activities are packed with festive spirit, and the crowd isn't too large. The programs are dazzling and varied. You can follow the official WeChat account to get this year's Chinese New Year program list in advance and start planning quickly. The downside is that parking spaces are somewhat limited, the scenic area has been operating for a short time, and dining options are not very diverse. It's best to have breakfast and dinner before heading there.

Sanbai Mountain is the source of the Dongjiang River and a sacred place for our Hong Kong compatriots to "drink water and think of the source." In October–November, Sanbai Mountain is crisp and cool, with mountains covered in layers of autumn colors. It is the perfect season for hiking, clearing your lungs, and experiencing the "living water from the source." Once you arrive, you won't want to leave. 🏛️ Five must-see highlights of Sanbai Mountain · Dongjiang First Waterfall: The iconic landmark of Sanbai Mountain. The waterfall has a single-stage drop of nearly 100 meters and is magnificent. On sunny mornings, you can often see rainbows at the waterfall viewing platform. · Manyun Plank Road: A 3,166-meter-long suspension plank road embedded in the cliffs. Walking through it when it's shrouded in mist feels like walking on clouds; it's the best section to experience a "natural oxygen bar." · Glass Skybridge: 330 meters long with a height difference of nearly 200 meters, it is currently the longest glass cable bridge in Jiangxi. Spanning between two mountains with deep valleys and forests beneath your feet, it's thrilling and great for photos. · Fuaotang (Volcanic Jade Pool): A relic left by a volcanic eruption 800 million years ago, which has accumulated water to form a lake. The water is clear, surrounded by green mountains, and it serves as the core resting point and viewing platform on the mountain. · Dongfeng Lake: The highlight of the B-line. Take a boat through the high-gorge lake; the water is like emerald, and the reflections of the green mountains are stunning. It is the best way to experience the grandeur of Sanbai Mountain from the water. 🗺️ Two recommended classic routes · Route 1: A-Line · Cable Car Express (approx. 3.5–4 hours, easy and energy-saving): Cable car up the mountain → Fuaotang (Volcanic Jade Pool) → Glass Skybridge (challenge the 330-meter suspension bridge) → Manyun Plank Road (cliff hiking) → Dongjiang First Waterfall (see the waterfall and rainbows) → Cable car down. Suitable for those traveling with seniors, children, or those short on time; covers all core attractions. · Route 2: B-Line · Water and Land Highlights (approx. 6 hours, the top choice for an in-depth tour): Take a boat at the North Gate Pier to tour Dongfeng Lake (approx. 30 minutes) → Transfer to an electric cart to Zhiyin Spring (symphony of twin waterfalls) → Light hike along the creek to Longtan → Transfer again up the mountain to Fuaotang → Glass Skybridge → Dongjiang First Waterfall → Cable car down. No backtracking, combines water and land, and offers the most complete experience. 🍜 Local food recommendations · Soul rice noodles: Anyuan Three-Fresh Noodles (Anyuan signature, fresh and delicious soup, a combination of shredded meat, pork liver, and small intestine; rated as one of the "Top 10 Regional Snacks in China"). · Hakka classics: Hakka stuffed tofu (tender tofu with delicious meat filling, the sauce is perfect with rice), Gannan stir-fried fish (sour, spicy, and fresh, tender fish, full of "wok hei"). · Wild flavors: Sanbai Mountain cured meat (unique smoky aroma), bamboo rice (authentic wild flavor). · Autumn limited: Gannan navel oranges (Anyuan is a core production area; juicy and sweet-tart in late autumn and early winter, a must-buy for the return trip). 🚗 Transportation and practical planning · Transportation: For self-driving, navigate to "Sanbai Mountain Main Gate Visitor Center"; parking is 10 yuan/day. For high-speed rail, go to Dingnan South Station or Ganzhou West Station; both have dedicated tourist lines directly to the scenic area (about 1 hour from Dingnan South Station). · Tickets: Admission is free; you only need to purchase the secondary consumption combo tickets. Both A/B line combo tickets are about 150 yuan (purchasing online one day in advance is about 135 yuan, which is more cost-effective). · Planning suggestions: For a one-day trip, choose either the A-line or B-line. For a two-day trip, you can tour the mountain on Day 1 and go to the Requanhe Tanggu Hot Spring at the foot of the mountain on Day 2 to relax. For accommodation, choose a homestay at the entrance of the scenic area (walking distance to the cable car, convenient) or in Anyuan County (better value). · Practical tips: The A-line stops entry at 3:30 PM, and the B-line stops entry at 2:00 PM, so be sure to manage your time well. Wear non-slip sports shoes, as the plank roads can be slippery. Bring a light jacket, as there is a large temperature difference on the mountain. There are many mosquitoes in the mountainous area, so bring mosquito repellent. ☀️ Best time to visit April to October is the golden window. April–May features blooming mountain flowers and frequent cloud seas; June–August is the best time for summer escapes, water play, and waterfall viewing (average temperature is only 22°C). October–November brings deepening autumn colors, crisp and clear skies, and mountains covered in layers of color; it's a great time for hiking and photography, and there are fewer tourists than in the summer, offering an excellent experience.

Located in Sanbaishan Town, Anyuan, Ganzhou, this 5A-rated scenic area at the source of the Dongjiang River features a forest oxygen bar, waterfalls, hanging boardwalks, and a glass skywalk. 🗺️ 2 Tour routes ✅ Route A: Easy version (3–4 hrs, best for seniors and children): Visitor Center > Cable car up > Fu'ao Pond (Volcanic Jade Pool) > Siyuan Baoding > Manyun Boardwalk > Glass Skywalk > First Waterfall of the Dongjiang River > Cable car down ✅ Route B: In-depth one-day tour (5–6 hrs): Visitor Center > Cable car up > Fu'ao Pond > Glass Skywalk > First Waterfall of the Dongjiang River > Zhiyin Spring > Dongfeng Lake cruise to exit. Experience both the mountains and the cruise in one trip. 🅿️ 3 Tickets and parking General admission is about CNY 100. We recommend the Route A package (admission + round-trip cable car + glass skywalk). Route B includes a one-way cable car + glass skywalk + cruise + electric cart. Buying online in advance is more cost-effective. Parking: Main Visitor Center parking lot. Free for 30 mins. Small cars are CNY 10 per entry, and new energy vehicles are half price. 🏨 4. Accommodation guide and nearby hotels 1. Sanbaishan Hot Spring Resort Hotel: Near the scenic area. Soak in natural hot springs after hiking. Popular for family trips. 2. Sanbaishan International Hotel: Very close to the scenic area entrance. Convenient for dining and offers great value. 3. Nearby Hakka homestays: Xiuhetang Homestay. Converted from a traditional walled house. Quiet and affordable, suitable for budget-conscious travelers. 🚗 5. Transportation guide No subway. For self-driving, navigate to "Sanbaishan Main Visitor Center". It takes about 2.5 hours from downtown Ganzhou. There is a direct tourist bus from Anyuan Bus Station to the scenic area, costing about CNY 15. After arriving at Dingnan South Railway Station by high-speed train, you can transfer to a vehicle to reach Sanbai Mountain.
Located in Guanxi Town, Longnan County (Jiangxi), Guanxi Xinwei is a massive Hakka Walled Enclosure (Weiwu). It is often called the "Oriental Ancient Roman Castle" or the "Forbidden City of the Countryside.” It was not too crowded when I visited, and buying the ticket on Trip cost less than the official website, surprisingly. Do bring some sunscreen and a good camera to take photos. I learnt so much about the history of these houses and also about Hakka culture.
Donovan_lThe current city is more than a hundred years old and has been recently renovated. It is free to enter and visitors can pose for photos as they please without being disturbed.
静吟我歌This trip to Laojun Mountain was perfect. The bus was comfortable, and the tour guide was both funny and professional. Reaching the Golden Summit, the Taoist temples were majestic, bathed in the glow of the setting sun, giving a profound sense of the vastness of the world. It was definitely worth the trip.
Anonymous userWe had a fantastic day at Chimelong Safari Park! The park is beautiful, with amazing scenery and a huge variety of animals. It's enormous, so I strongly recommend arriving early to have enough time to explore everything without rushing. We expected to see more giant pandas, but there were only two, although they were incredibly cute! We also hoped to see red pandas, which were listed as being at the park, but unfortunately, there were none. The animal show was excellent and entertaining, even though it was entirely in Chinese. We also hired a wonderful guide who was friendly, helpful and made a real effort to ensure we enjoyed our visit. We appreciated her efforts so much that we gave her an extra tip, even though she initially refused it.Overall, a great experience and well worth visiting in Guangzhou. Just arrive early and check which animals are available to see before your visit!
Bogdan StoianovThe scenery is indeed beautiful, similar to Zhangjiajie. There are very few people on weekdays; I only encountered about 7 or 8 people on the road. Be careful of snakes! A cat was meowing; apparently, it saw a snake eating a frog, which startled me… Be careful! The initial climb up the stairs is quite strenuous. The final descent has many mosquitoes. There are several supply points along the scenic route where you can buy water or rest. Walking back to the visitor center from the foot of the mountain takes about 20-30 minutes. You can choose to take a paid shuttle bus to the visitor center. There are only two buses in the morning; you can take the yellow village bus to the scenic area entrance (the village bus terminal is Yangcun). The bus ride is comfortable; you can board and alight at the Walton Hotel entrance.
D25***93My family had a wonderful time at the Guangzhou Chimelong tourist resort!! Our kids love the Guangzhou chimelong Safari park as they love animals and the safari has a wide variety of animals. The cable car, mini train are really convenient for visitors! We were impressed by the Chimelong international circus performance at night. Also my kids had lotsa fun at Happy world themepark rides! Overall it is a wonderful and satisfying trip!
Travel.coffee.donuts
A bit pricey to go to the top but a unique experience. Guangzhou skyline is beautiful. Make sure to sit in the bubble pod.
_TI***wzThe standard currency in Dingnan is CNY
Current exchange rate approx.: EUR ≈7.4CNY (actual exchange rates depend on the bank). Currency exchange tips:
1. Exchange currency at your local bank before departure, as rates are usually better than at the destination.
2. You can also withdraw cash from local ATMs.
3. Avoid exchanging currency at airports or hotels, as they offer the worst rates.
