Just got back from a short winter getaway to Banff. I specifically timed my trip for the Lake Louise Ice Magic Festival (Feb 5-8) and it was honestly so beautiful, even though it was freezing cold.

The ice sculptures by the frozen lake were amazing, especially at night with all the colorful lights. The theme was "Active Athlete" this year, and seeing the artists carve these massive blocks of ice was quite cool.

Of course, I did my usual food research before coming. Since it was so cold, I kept looking for warm snacks. I tried the famous BeaverTails stall near the town—getting a hot, crispy pastry covered in cinnamon sugar in the snow was honestly the best feeling. I also found a lovely, long-running diner in Banff town for a comforting hot breakfast.

We also took the gondola up Sulphur Mountain. The snowy mountain peaks looked like a giant ink painting, which was unexpectedly peaceful. Bow Falls was nice too, though mostly frozen over.

If you're planning a winter trip here, definitely pack your warmest windproof jacket. The temperature drops really quickly once the sun goes down!
