First, the location: Dongtai Mountain Scenic Area in Handan, Hebei, over 400 km from Beijing.
This mountain is absolutely incredible! It’s the ultimate "lazy-person friendly" destination.💯 1️⃣ Take the elevator up, take the slide down. Altitude over 1,400 meters? No climbing needed at all! A godsend for people with hiking phobia! 2️⃣ The scenery is stunning! It's a classic Taihang Mountain range. While Mount Hua and Mount Huang have some slopes, this mountain is completely vertical, with trails hanging right on the cliffs! The rocks are all Danxia landforms with "pork belly" coloring—so photogenic.📸 3️⃣ No crowds! Seriously, no crowds! We went the day before the Dragon Boat Festival, and we basically had the mountain to ourselves! I asked the staff, and even during Labor Day, it wasn't crowded! With such great facilities and stunning scenery, I feel bad for it.😭 🗺️ How to hike Dongtai Mountain? Listen to me! Get the CNY 210 pass, take the cable car up from the South Gate, head north and go down from the North Gate, then take the shuttle bus back to the South Gate. The scenery changes with every step; there isn't a single ugly spot! I highly recommend the glass skywalk next to the South Gate cable car station (Photos 1–3). The view is gorgeous and it's fun—kids will love it! After the glass skywalk, head toward North Peak. The areas with steep climbs in the scenic area all have elevators, and the remaining steps are very friendly for seniors and children. Want something exciting? I recommend the Via Ferrata! CNY 168 per person, it's super long. I watched two girls climb it for a full 2 hours—totally worth it! (Photos 9–10) Once you reach North Peak at the northernmost end, take the slide directly to the mountainside (Photo 4). A shuttle bus is waiting right after you get off the slide! You don't have to walk a single step the whole way—a perfect loop.💫 📍How long is the whole route? Cable car + elevator + slide + walking, my watch recorded a total of 10 km. We took our time taking photos, so it took 7.5 hours. There are restaurants and supply points along the way; instant noodles are CNY 10, Oriental Leaf tea is CNY 10—you won't go hungry. 🚗Transportation: Wu'an has a high-speed railway station, but it's still dozens of kilometers from the scenic area, so driving yourself is most convenient! Plus, highway tolls are reimbursed before the end of June (the highway toll receipt must be from the same day as your mountain admission ticket). 🏨Accommodation: Dongtai Mountain Chenxi Hotel is the only high-end hotel in the scenic area. It's usually 600–700/night including breakfast, and a little over 1,000 during holidays. Booking early is more cost-effective! The hotel is right next to the South Gate of the scenic area, making it super convenient for hiking Dongtai Mountain! The rooms are new, and the children's playground is huge—Zhang Xiaomiao tested it and said it's even more fun than the resort hotels in Sanya! The hotel restaurant is said to be the most reliable in the area. The three of us had a very comfortable dinner for just over CNY 100. ⚠️Note: 1. It's windy on the mountain! Even if you're wearing short sleeves at the bottom, bring a windbreaker! 2. It's a big rocky mountain, so remember sun protection. 3. Bring a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens, and a drone if possible! Guaranteed great photos.📸

It’s simple, comforting food that washes away the fatigue of your hike😋 💡 Travel tips ⏰ Best time to visit: Mid-to-late October, when the autumn colors are at their peak ❗ The mountain paths are rocky, so be sure to wear non-slip shoes and stay safe ❗ This is a raw, natural mountain area with few supplies, so bring your own drinking water and snacks 🗺 Suggested route Mountain foot entrance → Forest trail → Juchi Cliff ridge viewpoint → View of Yutang Peak → Descend for a farmhouse meal As the trip ends, I’m bringing back a small Taihang stone as a souvenir. You can walk at a relaxed pace with breaks, making it easy for seniors to complete. We recommend preparing to head down before 3:00 PM so you won't feel rushed. 🍜 Local specialties ▪️Wu'an Huicai (stewed vegetables): Authentic big-pot stew with meat, tofu, and vermicelli slow-cooked together. A must-visit sunflower field: one of Handan's best-value attractions
Welcome to the Donggaohe Sunflower Sea in Handan. I was pleasantly surprised to find that admission is free, the shuttle bus is only CNY 2 per person, and children ride for free. The scenic area is huge, the sunflowers are in full bloom, and there's a small train, various photo spots, and even cosmos flowers. If you love flowers, this is a must-visit. It is currently open from 8:00 AM–6:00 PM. I recommend wearing a white dress for great photos. There is a restaurant and a cafe in the park to meet your basic needs. Getting there: Get off at Donggaohe Village South Station and walk about 50 meters to reach the entrance of the sunflower field. Walk north for about 500 meters to reach the small train boarding point. The small train costs CNY 20 per person. Shuttle bus: Visitors can take the shuttle bus to tour the flower fields. A one-way ticket is CNY 2 per person (you can hop on and off as you like). Shuttle route: After getting off, you can take the shuttle bus from the starting point on the south side of the sunflower field to tour the area (one loop is about 2 kilometers). Boarding location: You can board the shuttle at the starting point on the south side of the sunflower field (about 50 meters from the parking lot). I recommend driving, as parking is free. The entire village is clean and tidy—it's a great spot.
