Real stay experience at hotels in Hainan during the third month of the lunar calendar — traveler post in Jishui

Real stay experience at hotels in Hainan during the third month of the lunar calendar

We hadn't decided where to go for winter break, but then the TV show "Children's Spring Festival Gala: I'm Here" came on, and my child insisted on going to the big lawn and rabbit playground. We checked and found it was the Sanzhengyue Hotel in Hainan. Since we were going to take the kids anyway, and it had the same "same" theme, we figured it couldn't be too bad, so we booked the flights and went. Here are a few highlights I found particularly appealing: 1. The water park was better than expected 🌿 The children's water playground even had a funnel slide, and the atmosphere was quite dreamy. It was especially beautiful in the afternoon sunlight. The kids had a blast, and the adults could relax on the lounge chairs nearby. 2. The buffet was a pleasant surprise, no disappointments 🥢 The biggest worry when traveling with kids is not having good food at a hotel. I have to praise this hotel's buffet dinner. There was a good variety of seafood, and they replenished it quickly. Most importantly, the food was delicious. There were many food stalls suitable for children, and my child has had a great appetite these past few days, which is very gratifying for a mother. We also tried the DIY food activity, letting the kids cook for themselves. 3. Regarding the Spring Festival Gala-themed area 📺: You can indeed see many scenes from the show. The large lawn is truly spacious, and there's a musical fountain at night. The rabbit-themed playground inside the hotel is huge. I initially thought it would just have a few slides, but it actually has a reptile enclosure where you can see lizards and turtles, which is quite rare. It's not just a trendy Instagrammable spot; it's a genuinely suitable place for families with children to stay for a few days. We stayed in a themed room, and the facilities were very friendly to families with two children. If you don't want to crowd into popular tourist attractions, this is definitely a place where you can relax and unwind.

Exploring Yanfang Ancient Village — traveler post in Jishui

Exploring Yanfang Ancient Village

Yanfang Village is another traditional village in Ji'an, a 4A scenic area and a national historic and cultural village. It feels slightly larger than Diaoyuan Ancient Village, with more than 160 surviving traditional buildings. The village is mostly inhabited by people with the surname Yan, so the original name was probably Yan Fang, which later evolved into Yanfang. The village still has ancestral halls, old schools, paifang archways, residences, and ancient tombs. The ancient camphor and maple trees behind the village and the old well and pond in front blend with the settlement, forming a typical Gan-style architectural complex. Yanfang Village also offers rural tourism, but compared with Diaoyuan Ancient Village, it feels more untouched. The attraction is open and does not charge an entrance fee. There is a parking lot by the village, which is convenient, and you can park and stroll into the village. Visiting in December, it was the low season. Arriving in the evening, apart from an RV in the parking lot and its owner cooking, there were no other visitors. Walking through the ancient village is quiet, and villagers are going about their daily lives. Many old houses have their gates tightly shut and may have been uninhabited for a long time. Because of rural tourism, the village roads are in good condition and there are plenty of signs. If you want to experience the authentic ancient village atmosphere of Jiangxi, take a walk through Yanfang Village,

Ji'an travel honest guide — traveler post in Jishui

Ji'an travel honest guide

Many say it’s not recommended to visit Ji'an in August and September. Here’s an objective look at the real situation. If you’re planning a trip, keep this guide handy! 🌡️ honest climate tips August in Ji'an is unbearably hot, with temperatures often exceeding 35℃ and intense midday heat. September remains warm, with slightly cooler mornings and evenings. Outdoor ancient villages have little shade, so long walks can easily cause heatstroke. Be sure to bring a sun hat, sunscreen, and plenty of drinking water. 📍 must-visit attractions ✅ Diaoyuan ancient village An authentic Luling ancient village with bluestone alleys, century-old camphor trees, and Ming and Qing dynasty houses. It’s quiet with few tourists, full of peaceful rural charm, perfect for leisurely walks and photos 📸. ✅ Meibi ancient village A larger thousand-year-old village with connected ancestral halls and red-walled ancient houses that make great photos. It’s rich in history and offers a deep sense of Luling culture. ✅ Bailuzhou academy A Ji'an landmark standing by the river, one of Jiangxi’s four major academies. It has a strong scholarly atmosphere and the river breeze makes it very comfortable. ✅ Yanfang ancient village Scattered old houses surrounded by ponds. It’s quiet and less crowded, ideal for travelers who prefer off-the-beaten-path villages and want to avoid crowds. 🍜 Ji'an specialty foods Ji'an fried rice noodles, Yongxin dog meat, Anfu ham, rice cakes, thin crispy cakes, and fermented fish. Local flavors tend to be strong and favor spicy and aromatic tastes. 💡 thoughtful tips to avoid pitfalls 1. Try to avoid going out at midday in August. Plan activities for early morning or evening to reduce long exposure outdoors. 2. Convenience stores are rare in ancient villages. Bring drinking water, snacks, and mosquito repellent in advance. 3. Most ancient villages have free or low-cost admission. Beware of unknown local guides on the roadside to avoid being pushed into extra tours. 4. The narrow alleys and buildings in ancient villages have many mosquitoes. Wear short sleeves with mosquito protection. 5. Self-driving is more convenient since the villages are far apart and public transport waits are long. 📅 easy 2-day itinerary suggestion Day 1: Arrive in Ji'an → Bailuzhou academy, then head to Diaoyuan ancient village in the evening to enjoy the sunset village scenery Day 2: Leisurely explore Meibi ancient village, try Ji'an fried rice noodles, then end the trip and return If you prefer quiet ancient villages, want to avoid popular cities, and can skip the peak midday heat of summer, Ji'an is still worth visiting. Slow down, stroll the bluestone paths, and feel the understated, rich charm of Luling’s ancient culture 🌿

Hunan Guidong Erdu Luo clan ancestral hall — traveler post in Jishui

Hunan Guidong Erdu Luo clan ancestral hall

The Guidong Erdu Luo clan ancestral hall, also known as the Zhoujiang Luo clan ancestral hall (Chongde Hall) Yuzhang Hall, was first built in the 18th year of the Yongle reign in the Ming dynasty (1420 AD) by the descendants of Shao Jiu Gong. It underwent large-scale renovations during the Qianlong period of the Qing dynasty, which established the current main layout. It has been repaired several times on a smaller scale in later generations and was fully restored in recent years, preserving the overall Ming and Qing architectural style. Dating back about 600 years, it is one of the oldest ancestral halls still standing in Guidong. This hall belongs to the Yuzhang Luo clan. The founding ancestor Luo Ju (Shao Jiu Gong) migrated from Jishui, Jiangxi to Guidong Erdu at the end of the Song and beginning of the Yuan dynasties. His descendants are widely distributed across Guidong, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guizhou, and other areas. The building faces south and opens to the north, with two courtyards and one central skylight. It features a brick and wood structure blending Xiangnan and Gan architectural styles, with a hard mountain roof, fireproof mountain walls, and a penetrating wooden frame. The site covers about 940㎡, with a registered building area of 1,573.18㎡. The ancestral hall retains wooden carved beams and lintels, ancient couplets, and Qing dynasty steles. Its drainage and fire prevention designs also incorporate Lingnan residential characteristics. It is a key cultural relic in Chenzhou city.

Bailuzhou Academy

宋代第一书院,洲上而建,环境清幽,建筑布置紧凑,虽听不到读书声,讨论声,但可以想象一下古代学子们在如此佳地,为万世立太平的读书景象。值得一游。

Chinese Jinshi Culture Park

The Chinese Jinshi Culture Park has both the grandeur of classical gardens and the softness and elegance of Jiangnan gardens. When you visit here, you can appreciate the Chinese Jinshi culture of imperial examinations, or participate in interactive activities to celebrate the glory of having your name on the list of successful candidates.

Dreaming of Luling

The night tour of Houhe and the dream of Luling are really amazing! The Phoenix Mecha Show is so shocking that I can't speak. Riding a boat through the light and shadow is like going back to ancient times. The staff is enthusiastic and the experience is perfect. It is definitely a treasure scenic spot that must be visited in Ji'an!

Yanfang Ancient Village

The scenic spots pointed out by my friend in Ji'an are indeed worth visiting, but it would be better if they were better maintained.

Jizhou Kiln Scenic Area

I arrived in the afternoon and had lunch. It was already 3pm when I finally finished my tour. I also needed to exchange my tickets. I was very nervous. I didn't know about it until I got to Zhoubida. I had to go to the visitor center to exchange my tickets. I didn't plan it well. The scenic area is very large. I recommend preparing a day to slowly walk around. Especially for friends who like taking pictures, you must reserve a day. If you just want to look around, half a day is enough. It's better to come in the morning. It's too hot in the afternoon. I didn't want to buy the wooden leaf lamp. It's too expensive. The main reason is that I basically don't drink tea. If I keep it for viewing, I don't think it's worth it. For those who drink tea, it's still worth buying. The environment is very good and you can walk around slowly.

Diaoyuan Ancient Village

The ancient village, with its ancestral hall dedicated to Ouyang, is clean, hygienic, and well-equipped. However, many areas were locked or unattended, and there weren't many individual tourists. Several elementary school classes were holding training sessions there. The staff mentioned that there weren't many individual tourists to begin with; most were there for team building or study tours. Our Shengsheng Agricultural Development Company is located in Gaobei Village, Litian Town, very close by—about a half-hour drive. This was my first time visiting, and it was quite an eye-opening experience. For lunch, I had a bowl of beef rice noodles; the noodles were soft and the meat was tender—it was delicious.

Qingyuan Mountain

Qingyuan Mountain is located in Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province. Yang Wanli and Wen Tianxiang were only characters in history and Chinese textbooks before. Walking the roads they walked, seeing the scenery they saw, interacting with each other across thousands of years, they both left their calligraphy works for Qingyuan Mountain in their hometown. If you want to understand the literary masters thousands of years ago, you still have to visit their hometown.

Orange Isle Scenic Area

Orange Island is a bit of a mixed experience, and I'm honestly not entirely sure whether I'd consider it a must-visit in Changsha. It's a large, green, and pleasant park, with beautiful riverside views and plenty of space for walking. If you enjoy places with historical significance or simply want to experience a different side of the city, it's definitely worth considering. Most visitors seem to take the sightseeing train to the southern end of the island, where the famous Mao Zedong statue is located. That's also where you'll find plenty of people taking photos, so don't expect a particularly quiet experience. The main downside is that visiting the island takes quite a bit of time, especially if you want to explore it properly. And while it's certainly a nice place, I'm not sure the experience justifies spending several hours here if you have a limited amount of time in Changsha and other places you'd like to see.On the other hand, if you're simply looking for a relaxing walk through a green park, with opportunities to stop by the river and enjoy the scenery, it's a lovely option.Overall, I'd say it's worth visiting if you have some extra time or are particularly interested in Chinese history. Otherwise, I wouldn't necessarily put it at the very top of your Changsha itinerary.
