Check in at Leling Film and Television City

Leling Film and Television City is more worth visiting than I imagined. The park is large, with complete ancient streets, palaces, pavilions, and waterside corridors. You feel fully immersed the moment you walk in. The architecture isn't just a backdrop. It has depth, layered courtyards, and a genuine filming atmosphere, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll and photo session. The most attractive part is the immersive ancient costume experience. You can often see film crews, actors in costume, and prop vehicles on the road, and occasionally watch extras filming. This authentic cinematic feel is something you won't find in ordinary theme parks. The small performances and interactive segments in the scenic area also add to the atmosphere. Traditional Chinese-style dances, street dramas, and ancient costume parades are interspersed throughout different areas, ensuring the visit is never monotonous. The park is incredibly photogenic. The red walls, stone paths, wooden pavilions, and arched bridges over the river all have a classic charm, making it especially perfect for photos if you wear Hanfu. During holidays, there are light shows and night events, offering a completely different vibe once the lights come on. The dining and facilities are more comfortable than expected, and the prices are reasonable. You can sit down and rest when you get tired of walking. The overall pace is relaxed, making it suitable for family trips, outings with friends, and Hanfu photography. Highly recommended for those who enjoy an ancient atmosphere, visiting film sets, and slow-paced travel. Don't miss this spot when you're in Leling.

Yuwangting Museum | 3A-rated historic site in Yucheng, Dezhou: A study tour guide to the Yu the Great Juqiu Site🏯 Yuwangting Museum is located in the northwest of Yucheng city, a national 3A-rated scenic spot, and the Juqiu Mountain Site, a provincial cultural heritage site, is located within the park. Legend has it that 4,000 years ago, Yu the Great was controlling the floods and piled up earth here to build a mound to observe the water level; this place is Juqiu Mountain. The park integrates Longshan culture relics, Ming and Qing dynasty-style halls, ancient stele corridors, and Yuwang Lake. It is a core study tour destination for Yu the Great culture in Shandong. The ancient architecture is simple and solemn, the environment is quiet and uncrowded, suitable for history study tours, traditional-style photography, and short historical tours. Recommended visit time is 1.5–2 hours. Must-visit attractions ✨ Mountain Gate and Bell & Drum Towers 🏮 The main entrance of the scenic area is a memorial archway-style gate. The lintel hangs a plaque with "Yuwangting" inscribed in the replica handwriting of Emperor Qianlong. With red doors and gray walls, it is full of ancient charm. The Bell Tower and Drum Tower are symmetrically distributed on both sides of the central axis of the park, following the ancient layout of "evening drums and morning bells." Pine and cypress trees line the long path leading directly to the main hall, making it the first photo spot upon entering. Yuwang Main Hall 📜 The core main building of the entire park, featuring a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof, yellow tiles, and colorful paintings, it is magnificent. Inside the hall, there is a statue of Yu the Great, accompanied by murals depicting his flood control efforts, showcasing the grand story of dredging the nine rivers and calming the floods. A plaque reading "Eternal Divine Merit" hangs above the hall, and couplets record the virtues of Yu the Great, making it the core place to experience the culture of Yu the Great. The east and west side halls house special exhibition rooms displaying pottery and stone tools unearthed from the Longshan culture, with graphic panels explaining the archaeological excavation results of Juqiu Mountain, allowing for a close-up study of prehistoric civilization. Ancient Stele Corridor The long stele corridors on both sides of the main hall display steles from various dynasties commemorating the reconstruction of Yuwangting. Ming and Qing dynasty steles stand in rows, with inscriptions recording the history of people worshipping Yu the Great and repairing the shrine over thousands of years. The calligraphy on the steles is simple and profound, serving as precious written historical materials, suitable for quiet reading and feeling the inheritance of thousands of years of cultural heritage. Juqiu Mountain Site & Yuwangting The core historic site at the back of the park is Juqiu Mountain, where legend says Yu the Great piled up earth to observe the water level; it is also a Longshan culture site. Standing on the hill is the octagonal, double-eaved Yuwangting. Climbing the pavilion to look into the distance, you can overlook Yuwang Lake and the entire complex of ancient buildings, offering a wide view. Standing on the mound, it feels like traveling back a thousand years to experience the magnificent scene of Yu the Great's flood control. This is the landmark photo spot of the entire park. Yuwang Lake 🌊 An artificial lake next to the site, with calm water and lush greenery around it, reflecting the ancient buildings on the water's surface. The lakeside path is quiet and relaxing. After visiting the halls and exhibition rooms, you can take a walk and rest along the lake to slow down the pace of your tour and take great photos of the ancient architecture and water scenery. Recommended tour route Scenic Area Gate > Bell & Drum Towers > Pine and Cypress Path > Yuwang Main Hall and East/West Side Halls > Ancient Stele Corridor > Juqiu Mountain Site, climb Yuwangting for the view > Walk around Yuwang Lake. The entire route follows the central axis in one direction, with a smooth flow and no backtracking, allowing you to see the ancient buildings, cultural relics, ruins, and lake scenery all at once. Best time to visit & outfit guide Open all year round. The climate is comfortable in spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the park's vegetation is lush, offering the best visiting experience. The Yuwang Temple Fair is held on the third day of the third lunar month, where you can experience traditional sacrificial folk activities. There are fewer tourists in the morning, making it quiet and suitable for viewing exhibitions and reflecting on history. For outfits, simple and elegant clothing is recommended; "new Chinese style" or traditional-style clothing pairs perfectly with the red walls and ancient buildings for great photos. The park mainly consists of flat paths with a few steps, so comfortable flat shoes are sufficient. Practical tips 📌 1. The scenic area is open to the public for free. Register with your ID card to enter; no admission ticket is required, and parking is free. 2. Opening hours are 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. It is closed on Mondays for maintenance, so please plan accordingly. 3. Touching steles and statues is prohibited inside the halls and stele corridors. Do not use flash when taking photos to protect the cultural relics. 4. The park environment is solemn; please keep quiet and do not speak loudly while visiting. 5. Be careful when walking along the banks of Yuwang Lake and do not approach dangerous water areas. 6. The park is of moderate size, and physical exertion is low, making it suitable for family study tours. 7. The scenic area is not far from Yucheng city center. If you have enough time, you can plan a one-day itinerary that includes the Tuhaier River landscape belt. Four thousand years of Longshan relics, a thousand-year-old legend of Yu the Great controlling the floods. Yuwangting Museum integrates prehistoric ruins, ancient shrines, stele corridors, and lakeside gardens, without a noisy commercial atmosphere. Stroll through the ancient halls and stele corridors, climb Juqiu Mountain, and reflect on the story of Yu the Great's selfless flood control. It is a niche, rich-in-history cultural study tour destination in northern Shandong.

Staying at a jujube forest homestay in Leling, I found clarity under the ancient trees — traveler post in Laoling

Staying at a jujube forest homestay in Leling, I found clarity under the ancient trees

Guys, can you believe it? I can't believe how little information there is about Leling!! As a Shandong local, I didn't even know until this August that Leling has a thousand-year-old jujube forest, the largest film studio in the north, and a Confucian temple that is so stunning... No more nonsense, let's get straight to the good stuff👇 📍 About Leling Leling is in Dezhou, Shandong—yes, the Dezhou famous for its braised chicken. But Leling's own claim to fame is being the "Home of Golden Jujubes." It has the largest thousand-year-old primitive man-made fruit forest in the country, with 500,000 mu of jujube forest. Just hearing the size is mind-blowing. 🚗 Transportation guide Driving from Jinan takes about 2 hours. From Dezhou, it's about 1 hour. Take the high-speed train to Dezhou East Station, then transfer to a bus or taxi to Leling, which takes about 40 minutes. 🌳 Thousand-year jujube forest scenic area—I was completely captivated A 4A-rated scenic area with 95% forest coverage; walking in feels like entering a massive natural oxygen bar. The jujube trees inside are truly over a thousand years old. The trunks are too thick for one person to hug, and the branches twist and spiral in a rugged, ancient way. Although it was August and not yet the season for ripe jujubes, the lush greenery was more than enough to enjoy. The scenic area is divided into several zones: Jieyi Garden: Based on the theme of the Oath of the Peach Garden. Celebrity Garden: Displays the footprints of historical figures. Hundred Jujube Garden: Features over a hundred varieties of jujube trees. I walked along the shaded paths, with jujube branches and leaves intertwined overhead. Sunlight filtered through the gaps, creating dappled light and shadows on the ground. It was over 30°C outside in August, but the temperature in the jujube forest felt at least 7–8 degrees cooler, and the breeze was incredibly refreshing. 📌 Ticket: CNY 40 📌 Tour time: 2–3 hours 📌 Outfit suggestion: Light colors look better in photos 🎬 Leling Film Studio—Transported to the Tang Dynasty in a second I had no idea this film studio existed before, and I was blown away after visiting. It is the largest cultural and educational film base in the north. The first phase currently open has two main areas: Jinxiu Tang Garden: Restores Tang Dynasty palaces, streets, and city towers. The architecture is magnificent, with red walls, gray tiles, and flying eaves—every detail is well-executed. Walking through the Tang-style streets, the background music from "The Longest Day in Chang'an" played automatically in my head. Chinatown Theme Park: A 1:1 scale replica of the San Francisco Chinatown from 1900. The blend of Chinese and Western styles is unique, and taking photos there feels like a distortion of time and space. I happened to visit when a film crew was shooting. I saw some of the set arrangements from afar; although I couldn't get close, I was already excited enough. 📌 Some areas are free to enter 📌 Suggest setting aside half a day to explore slowly 📌 Best photo spots: Main street of Tang Garden, palace steps 📜 Leling Confucian Temple—A severely underrated cultural treasure The Confucian Temple is in downtown Leling, and admission is free. As soon as I entered, I was stunned by the hip-and-gable roofs and glazed tiles; the sense of solemnity cannot be captured in photos. The red lacquered columns, carved beams, and ancient brick floors all exude a sense of historical weight. There are ancient trees from the Ming Dynasty in the courtyard; the Chinese arborvitae and ancient locust trees are about the same age as the temple, with gnarled and rugged branches. Sunlight filtered through the canopy, making the whole space incredibly quiet—I could even hear the leaves rustling. ⚠️ Reminder: If you go at noon, the main hall will be backlit. It is recommended to go before 10:00 AM or after 3:00 PM. 🏛️ Golden Jujube Culture Museum—Learned something new This museum is near the Jujube Forest Scenic Area and showcases the history of Leling's jujube culture and the process of planting and processing jujubes. I used to think jujube trees were just about planting and harvesting, but after visiting, I learned that Leling's jujube planting history dates back thousands of years, and different varieties of jujubes differ greatly in shape, taste, and use. The museum has an exhibition area displaying specimens of over a hundred types of jujubes, which are colorful and beautiful. 📌 Ticket: Free 📌 Tour time: 40 minutes–1 hour 🔴 Hebei-Shandong Border Area Revolutionary Memorial Park—Worth a visit The memorial park is on the Jujube Forest tourist road. The memorial hall covers an area of about 2,800 square meters and displays the revolutionary history of the Hebei-Shandong border area through photos, artifacts, and scene recreations. There is an experiential tunnel inside where you can crouch and walk through a section to experience the combat environment of the guerrillas back then. Honestly, my back ached after crouching for a few dozen meters; thinking about how the predecessors had to stay in there for a long time, it really wasn't easy. 📌 Ticket: Free 📌 Tour time: 1.5 hours 🏨 Accommodation This time, I stayed in a bungalow with a courtyard next to the jujube forest. There were two old jujube trees in the yard, with a stone table and stools underneath. The room wasn't big but was clean and tidy. The kang (heated brick bed) was covered with soft cushions and a thin quilt, and it was surprisingly comfortable to sleep on. With the window open, I could smell the fresh scent of jujube leaves. It was quiet at night, with the occasional rustling of leaves in the wind. Waking up in the morning and sitting in the yard, zoning out, watching the sunlight move bit by bit through the gaps in the leaves—that slow-paced feeling was something I hadn't experienced in a long time. Leling is not a traditional tourist city, but precisely because of that, it retains the most authentic Northern Shandong charm. In August, the jujube forest is lush and green; it's uncrowded, beautiful, and slow-paced—perfect for those of you wanting to escape the city hustle and bustle. I'll definitely come back when the jujubes are ripe next time!

Rockery and Musical Fountain Square The entrance square features a rockery landscape. On holidays, the musical fountain is turned on, with water jets dancing to light and music. The spacious square is perfect for resting and serves as the main venue for park events. Recommended route Park entrance square > Five-Dragon Pillar sculpture photo op > Lotus Pond Area > Bixia Academy visit > Lakeside stroll > Fishing area rest and departure. This route follows a logical flow, allowing you to see cultural sites and lake scenery at a relaxed pace. Best time to visit & outfit guide The park is open year-round. Summer is the best time to see the lotus flowers in full bloom, while spring and autumn offer comfortable temperatures for lakeside walks. We recommend arriving in the afternoon when the light is soft, which is ideal for lake photography. Wear simple, casual clothing; light-colored outfits look great against the lake and ancient architecture. The park trails are flat, so wear comfortable flat shoes. There are many mosquitoes by the lake, so bring mosquito repellent if visiting in summer. Practical tips 📌 1. The park is free to enter, and the parking lot is free. Water activities require a separate fee; please refer to on-site notices. 2. Opening hours are 8:00 AM–6:00 PM. The musical fountain usually operates on a schedule during holidays; please check on-site notices before your visit. 3. Please do not touch the exhibits in Bixia Academy and keep noise to a minimum. 4. The lake shore and lotus pond are near the water. Please supervise children at all times and do not enter the water. 5. Please protect the park's plants and flowers, do not pick lotus flowers, and help preserve the lake's ecosystem. 6. The park is not far from downtown Leling. You can combine your visit with the Hebei-Shandong Border Region Revolutionary Memorial Hall for a one-day Leling itinerary. A lake of clear water holds the legends of Bixia, accompanied by pavilions, lotus ponds, and fragrant plants. Bixia Lake integrates water scenery, folk culture, and garden landscapes. Stroll around the lake to enjoy the lotus flowers, visit Bixia Academy to read the legends, and relax in this great getaway in northern Shandong.

Laoling Film Studio

I discovered this scenic area after watching the movie "Detective Chinatown" and decided to check it out. The parking lot is large and plentiful, and it's free on holidays, which is commendable. The entire scenic area consists of two parts: one part features traditional Chinese architecture, including the East Market, West Market, Palace Area, and Prince Ning's Mansion, which is a popular filming location for various lighthearted time-travel short dramas. The other part is the set area from "Detective Chinatown," recreating landmarks and scenes from San Francisco over a hundred years ago—perfect for taking photos! The layout and tour routes are clearly defined and well-displayed, ensuring every visitor knows their location—a great feature. There are performances and interactive activities at various times, with exciting events in the evening. This encourages afternoon visitors to stay longer and spend more money—a clever strategy that isn't annoying but definitely worth promoting! The entire scenic area is suitable for children, ladies in Hanfu (traditional Han clothing), or anyone with a passion for filming and television.

The Palace Museum

I've booked the tour that started at 10am but I was there early and they put me with the earlier group and it's great that I didn't have to spend my time waiting. Before I was there I've read that one of the main building was under construction and was very disappointed. Though it's my fifth visit, you will still want to see it in its full glory and not to be greeted by a scaffolding building. However once I've passed that, it didn't really bother me as much as I've thought it would be. Our guide was Lily. She is very passionate, responsible and answer all questions. There's time for photos and a toilet break. After the tour with Lily ended, I made my way to the Treasure Hall. It's worth a visit where you see more of these grand architecture.

Mount Taishan

Climbing Mount Tai, we were accompanied by clouds and mist, admired cliff carvings, and watched the sunlight peek through the clouds... We took a scenic shuttle bus from Tianwaicun to Zhongtianmen, climbed the steps to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way, reached Yuhuangding, descended to Nantianmen, took a cable car back to Zhongtianmen, and chose to exit the scenic area through Hongmen, avoiding backtracking. Our visit lasted nearly 7 hours. Mount Tai truly deserves its title as the foremost of the Five Sacred Mountains.

Baotu Spring

Baotu Spring is definitely worth a visit. The park is beautiful, and aside from being very crowded, it has no other drawbacks. The three springs are quite large, though the spray isn't very high. Each pool is different, and it's quite interesting to observe closely. Some pools constantly emit small bubbles, and many pools are teeming with koi. However, due to the large number of people feeding them, the fish have become very picky eaters.

Temple of Heaven

Summer Palace

Listening to Xiucai's explanation, I learned that the breeze from Kunming Lake while visiting the Summer Palace completely washed away my daily fatigue 🥳 The Seventeen-Arch Bridge is a fantastic photo spot; nine photos on my WeChat Moments are simply not enough!

Daming Lake Scenic Area

Daming Lake holds the story of Emperor Qianlong and Xia Yuhe's "epic, tragic love" 😂 "Your Majesty, do you still remember Xia Yuhe by Daming Lake?"—When Emperor Qianlong toured the south, he encountered Xia Yuhe playing the zither in the Yuhe Hall, fell in love at first sight, wrote a poem and presented her with a fan, vowing that "a true friend is hard to find." However, after more than a decade apart, Yuhe fell ill with longing and died with her zither in her arms 😢 However, there is no historical record of this person; it's purely a romantic fiction by Qiong Yao. The lake shimmers, lotus flowers fill the pond, and the saying "lotuses on all four sides, willows on three" is truly fitting. The illuminated Chaoran Tower is even more breathtaking.
