When visiting Jingdezhen in summer, don’t just stick to Taoxichuan and Sanbao Village! Starting from the city center, a 1-hour drive leads me to a hidden gem in Leping — Hongyan Wonderland · Underground Porcelain World. As soon as you enter the cave, it’s so cool! With a constant temperature of 18°C year-round, the scorching 40°C heat outside is instantly blocked out. My kid exclaimed, “Mom, this is even more comfortable than an air-conditioned room!” 😄 The cave’s scenery is truly breathtaking. All kinds of bizarrely shaped stalactites under colorful lights make you feel like you’ve stepped into a fairy-tale underworld. The kid was most excited about the scattered “porcelain shards” on the ground. I told him these might be treasures left by ancient people, and he immediately turned into an “archaeologist,” squatting down seriously “hunting for treasure” 😂. The 36-meter-high Jiutian Waterfall splashes water everywhere, creating a stunning visual impact. The whole visit takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, not tiring at all, very easy with a child. Afterward, a 5-minute walk takes you to the ancient water stage, a wooden structure built without nails or mortise joints, standing in the middle of a lotus pond. Sitting nearby, sipping tea and enjoying the cool breeze is so relaxing. 📌 Tips for visiting with kids: Clothing: The cave is damp, so be sure to dress your child in non-slip sneakers. Photography: Wear light-colored clothes; they look especially great in the dim cave lighting. Your kid will look like a movie scene no matter where they stand. One-day trip recommendation: Stay overnight at the nearby Baiguo Luming Mountain Villa, where you can freely pick fruits and your child can play all day. If you want to avoid crowded popular spots this summer, bringing your child to this “18°C underground world” for a cool treasure hunt is definitely the smartest choice!

When visiting Jingdezhen, don’t just focus on the porcelain city area. This nearby cave has a history of 300 million years, truly a real-life version of "The Lost Tomb" 📖 World of porcelain, underground river waterfalls, constant 18°C temperature, it feels like stepping into a fantasy world from a novel. · 📍Hongyan Wonderland, Leping City, Jingdezhen 🚘 Self-driving navigation: "Ancient Opera Stage Expo Park" 🕑 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM 🚄 From Jingdezhen North Station, a 1-hour taxi ride · 🙌 Recommended spots to check in ✅ Porcelain Phoenix A giant 38-meter stalagmite at the entrance, transformed into a phoenix under the light and shadow effects. The colorful lights shining on the rock wall are stunning, and you can stand far away to capture the full view. · ✅ Jiutian Waterfall A natural underground waterfall formed by the subterranean river, with a spectacular 36-meter drop. The roaring water is magnificent, and the surrounding mist makes it very cool. · ✅ Xianfan Bridge At the cave entrance, looking down really resembles the underground caves in "The Lost Tomb." Enhanced by colorful lights, it is full of mysterious charm. · ✅ Porcelain Guanyin The natural cave rock wall transforms into a Buddhist shrine, featuring a 3D mapping projection of Porcelain Guanyin. The celadon and white porcelain statue paired with flowing lotus light effects makes Guanyin slowly appear, with compassionate and serene eyes, blessing all beings. · ✅ Water Ancient Opera Stage Don’t miss this outside the cave. It is a Ming and Qing dynasty Huizhou-style old opera stage with mortise and tenon structure, a heritage wooden construction without a single iron nail. The architecture is grand and magnificent, and aerial shots are breathtaking. · 🙌 Tips: ✔️ For photos, it’s recommended to wear light-colored clothes, as dark colors are not very visible inside the cave. ✔️ The cave is damp all year round, so wear non-slip sports shoes. ✔️ You can get a wristband at the entrance, with surprise Easter eggs along the way. ✔️ The temperature is constantly 18°C here, with a big difference in summer, so bring a jacket if you have kids. ✔️ It’s recommended to visit the cave first, then check in at the ancient opera stage.

Centered around Shike Archway, I have curated a relaxed, one-day itinerary that combines the thousand-year cultural heritage, ancient architecture, and authentic daily life of Xiaxu Village. This guide covers the route, highlights, local food, and travel tips. Leping Xiaxu Village One-Day Tour: Savoring the Cultural Heritage and Daily Life of a Thousand-Year-Old Village Under Shike Archway Tucked away in Leping, Jingdezhen, Xiaxu Village is a traditional Chinese village with a thousand-year history. Free from the noise of commercialization, it blends ancient architectural charm with authentic rural life. The Shike Archway, standing by the roadside at the village entrance, is the soul of the village and a gathering place where villagers cool off, chat, and watch the years go by. The village dates back to the late Tang Dynasty when the Xu ancestors moved here to escape war. From the ancient names "Yanshan" and "Kuitian" to the current "Xiaxu," the village has upheld a tradition of farming and scholarship for over a millennium, producing legendary figures including both civil and martial champions and an imperial son-in-law. It is perfect for a light, one-day immersive tour to unlock the humanity and gentleness of this ancient village. 🌞 One-Day Itinerary (Relaxed, unhurried, and suitable for all ages) Shike Archway → Ancient Bluestone Streets → Renshou Hall Ancestral Hall → Ming and Qing Dynasty Architectural Complex → Streamside Trail → Village Life Stop 1: Shike Archway (Village landmark, a must-visit) Built in the 26th year of the Hongwu reign of the Ming Dynasty and renovated during the Chenghua period, it is a municipal-level cultural heritage site in Jingdezhen and a familiar leisure spot for villagers. This Ming Dynasty wooden archway features exquisite brackets and eaves. The wood carvings remain clear after 600 years of wind and rain. The characters "Shike" (Generations of Scholars) and "Jiadi" (Top Ranking) on the lintel are vigorous and ancient, symbolizing the Xu family's continuous academic success. Built to commemorate Xu Heng, a local scholar from the Northern Song Dynasty who was Jiangxi's first martial champion, a civil scholar, and later an imperial son-in-law, the village is known as the "First Village of Imperial Sons-in-Law in Jiangnan." In the morning or afternoon, elders often sit on the steps under the archway to chat. As the evening breeze blows through, it feels both historically profound and healing, making it a perfect spot for atmospheric photos. Stop 2: Ancient Bluestone Streets (Stroll and seek ancient charm) Walking inward from Shike Archway, you step into the thousand-year-old texture of Xiaxu Village. It preserves the most complete and abundant Ming and Qing Dynasty bluestone roads in Leping's countryside. Polished by footsteps and rain for a millennium, the stones are smooth and textured. The crisscrossing alleys, varying in width, connect old houses with white walls and black tiles, adorned with lush greenery. Without crowds, only the breeze passes through the alleys, making you feel as if you have traveled back to the days of farming and scholarship. Stop 3: Renshou Hall Ancestral Hall (The core of cultural heritage) The central Renshou Hall is the essence of the village's cultural heritage, famous for the "Renzhe Shou" (The Benevolent Live Long) plaque inscribed by Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty. The hall is grand and solemn, with exquisite carvings on beams and pillars. It is the core place for the Xu clan to worship ancestors and hold meetings. Here, you can understand the family tradition of farming and scholarship that has lasted for a thousand years and feel the village's long-standing heritage of valuing both culture and martial arts. It is a perfect place to quietly appreciate history. Stop 4: Ming and Qing Dynasty Architectural Complex + Streamside Trail The village preserves a large area of Ming and Qing Dynasty buildings. The old houses have orderly layouts with intricate wood and stone carvings, each hiding stories of the past. After exploring the architecture, move to the stream in front of the village. The water is clear, the banks are lush, and the flowing water is quiet and serene. Walking here in the afternoon, away from the city's hustle and bustle, watching the village nestled against the mountains and water, is incredibly relaxing. Stop 5: Leisurely Village Stroll In the evening, there is no need to rush; just blend into the villagers' daily life. You can see rural scenery everywhere in the alleys, encounter villagers chatting or working, and feel the simple folk customs. There are no commercial traps here, only the most authentic rural life. Sit under Shike Archway, chat with locals, listen to the ancient legends of the champion and imperial son-in-law, and unlock the unique gentleness of this niche ancient village. 🍜 Local Specialties Xiaxu Village features authentic farmhouse flavors, with ingredients grown and raised locally, fresh and ecological: 1. It is a great choice for a short, relaxing trip to unlock a niche treasure of an ancient village and immerse yourself in the healing atmosphere of "farming and scholarship, peaceful years."

Many have visited Longyuan Inn in Longquan, but few know this👇 This stunning red-walled ancient mansion's entire wooden structure actually comes from Leping, Jiangxi! It was the "Wang Family Sima Mansion," home to a prominent family in Yongshan, Leping, during the Daoguang to Tongzhi reigns of the Qing Dynasty🏛️ It is not a local Zhejiang structure; it is a century-old official residence of the Wang family that was moved thousands of miles from Jiangxi and reborn in a new location✨ 📍Original site: Wang Family Old Street, Yongshan, Leping, Jiangxi Built during the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to the prominent Taiyuan Wang family of Yongshan in northeastern Jiangxi. This ancient mansion bears witness to the golden age of three generations of the Wang family: Wang Yishan (father) → Wang Xieshu (son) → Wang Zairen (grandson) During the Daoguang reign, the father, Wang Yishan, was known for his benevolence. He provided disaster relief, opened granaries to help the hungry, and funded bridges and schools for years. Due to his family's generations of charitable acts, the imperial court honored them by erecting a "Benevolent and Charitable" stone archway. From then on, the Wang family became renowned throughout Raozhou Prefecture🔥 During the chaotic Tongzhi reign, the second son, Wang Xieshu, became the head of the family. He organized provisions, recruited local militia, and exhausted his family fortune to support Zuo Zongtang in suppressing rebellions. Because of his outstanding contributions, he earned the deep respect of Zuo Zongtang, who personally inscribed the golden plaque "Sima Di" (Sima Mansion) as a gift to the Wang family. Both father and son were recommended by the imperial court and granted the official rank of Zhou Tong. The Wang family quickly rose to become a prestigious household, famous as both officials and merchants💫 The entire Sima Mansion was built with exquisite materials, constructed entirely from precious ginkgo wood. It features three courtyards, three light wells, and halls filled with intricate wood carvings. The beams, corbels, lattice windows, and caisson ceilings are all original carvings from the Daoguang and Tongzhi periods🪵 At its peak, Wang Family Street in Yongshan was incredibly prosperous. The Sima Mansion, the Zhoupan Mansion, and the Daifu Mansion stood side by side, complete with banks, pawnshops, schools, and an ancient stage. It was a truly prestigious and wealthy family in northeastern Jiangxi🏮 Wang Xieshu's son, Wang Zairen, was later granted the position of Zhoupan. Across three generations, the family's scholarly and official legacy was passed down. As time passed, the family gradually faded after the end of the Qing Dynasty, and the old mansion fell into disrepair. In 2005, this well-preserved ancient Wang family mansion from the Daoguang and Tongzhi periods was numbered piece by piece, carefully dismantled, and transported by truck. It traveled thousands of miles, moving from Leping, Jiangxi, to settle in Longquan, Zhejiang🚛 Today, what we see at Longyuan Inn: ✅All the ancient wooden frames, carved windows, beams, and caisson ceilings are the original, century-old components from the Wang family's Sima Mansion in Jiangxi. The red walls and courtyard gates were rebuilt during later renovations. One house holds the elegance of two dynasties, continuing the ancient charm across Jiangxi and Zhejiang🌿 What is most moving is that although the house was moved, the roots of the Wang family remain forever in Jiangxi. Most of the descendants of Wang Xieshu's main line still live in their ancestral home in Yongshan, Leping, Jiangxi. For a thousand years, the lineage has continued, with generations upholding the Wang family name. Other family members are scattered across northeastern Jiangxi and the Yangtze River Delta, generations adhering to the Wang family's tradition of farming, studying, and kindness💕 One ancient mansion, spanning two provinces, Jiangxi and Zhejiang, has witnessed the rise and fall of a family over a century. The old wood endures, and the ancient charm remains. This is the most healing and moving destiny of ancient architecture🌿 A gentle knock on the door knocker, the wooden chairs waiting quietly—it feels as if you can still hear the sounds of reading and the whispers of dawn and dusk from a century ago📖

Hidden in the lush mountains and valleys of Zhongbu Town, Leping City, Jiangxi Province, lie two breathtaking secret spots: Leping’s strange stone forest and the Water Curtain Cave! This secret area covers more than 20 square kilometers. With its towering strange stones and deep forest ravines, it is praised as “China’s finest stone forest.” It is a little-known natural treasure that remains largely untouched. The most remarkable feature of Leping’s strange stone forest is the world-famous “Five Wonders”: the tree wonder, stone wonder, water wonder, pit wonder, and climate wonder. Having long been isolated from the noise of the outside world and rarely disturbed by human activity, billions of years of geological evolution and natural carving have preserved the purest wild beauty here. Every plant, stone, and cave exudes a natural, unrefined charm and vitality. Entering the strange stone forest is like stepping into a giant natural stone museum. Jagged, bizarre stones fill the mountains and fields in countless shapes and forms. Each stone hides nature’s creativity—some resemble eagles about to take flight, others look like majestic lions, and some vividly resemble mythological figures or everyday objects. Every corner sparks the imagination and invites awe at nature’s incredible artistry. Complementing the strange stone forest is the Water Curtain Cave, which takes this wonder to the next level. Originally called Zhangguyan, the cave system stretches over 10 kilometers, with caves within caves connected like an underground maze. Surrounded by green mountains, a clear spring flows gently outside the cave. From a cliff more than 100 meters high, water cascades down like flying pearls and splashing jade, creating mist that gives the Water Curtain Cave its name. Inside the cave is another world. Looking up, countless stalactites hang from the ceiling—some like crystal bead curtains, translucent and sparkling, others like towering stone pillars reaching the roof. In the interplay of light and shadow, these countless stalactites seem alive, bringing the deep cave to life!

Public Transportation Long-distance or intercity buses to Xiyang County or Leping Town: You can take a bus from Taiyuan, Jinzhong, Pingyao, or other stations to Xiyang (or Leping). After arriving at the county or town, transfer by taxi, motorcycle taxi, or walk to Chongjiao Temple on Shangcheng Street. Alternatively, travel first to transportation hubs like Jinzhong or Pingyao, then transfer to a bus to Xiyang. Bus schedules vary, so confirm departure times and locations on the day of travel. Local Transportation There are usually shuttle buses or chartered cars from the county seat to Leping Town/Shangcheng Street. For short distances, taxis or carpooling are convenient; for larger groups, consider chartering a round trip for ease. 4. Highlights and Visiting Tips Inside the Temple Mountain Gate and Archway: Usually there is an archway or mountain gate before entering the temple, great for photos. Main Hall (Mahavira Hall): The main hall houses Buddha statues, offering a religious atmosphere. Please be polite and observe photography restrictions. Bell and Drum Towers and Sutra Pillars: Traditional temple features to learn about daily rituals and temple instruments. Courtyards and Ancient Trees: Many small temples in Jinzhong preserve old courtyards and ancient cypress or trees, perfect for peaceful walks. Stone Inscriptions and Plaques: Read the stone carvings and plaques to learn about the temple’s restoration and donation history, usually with dates and names. Surrounding Old Streets: Shangcheng Street and Leping Town retain some ancient town charm. You can also explore local residences, shops, and street food stalls. 5. Tickets and Opening Hours Small local temples usually charge low admission fees or are free to enter but may accept incense donations or small maintenance fees. Specific opening hours and ticket prices depend on temple announcements or local tourism authorities. It is advisable to call the local tourism service center or village/town office to confirm before departure. 7. Etiquette and Safety Tips Respect religious sites: Keep quiet inside the main hall and do not joke or play in front of Buddha statues. Check if photography is allowed before taking pictures (some statues or ceremonies may prohibit photography). Dress appropriately: Avoid overly revealing clothing and keep collars neat when entering halls. Incense and donations: Follow temple rules when burning incense or donating; do not forcibly inspect monks’ personal belongings. Sun protection and slip prevention: The temple grounds have many stone steps or wooden floors, so watch your step; bring sun protection and water in summer. Protect cultural relics: Do not touch or climb on ancient architectural elements or stone inscriptions. 8. Photography Tips Lighting: Morning and evening light is softer and better for photographing courtyards and hall facades. At noon, watch out for harsh highlights and shadows. Angles: Use the courtyard’s axial lines to capture the temple’s symmetrical beauty; close-ups can focus on plaques, wood carvings, and stone details. Cultural photos: When photographing monks or worshippers, ask for permission first and respect their privacy and beliefs. 9. Food, Accommodation, and Nearby Tourism Food: Shanxi snacks are abundant. Try knife-cut noodles, cat’s ears noodles, ti jian, fried pork, lamb offal soup, and other local specialties. Don’t forget to taste Shanxi’s famous aged vinegar. Accommodation: Basic inns are available in Xiyang County or Leping Town with simple conditions. For more comfort, consider staying in Jinzhong or Pingyao and commute the next day. Book in advance during holidays. Nearby attractions: Jinzhong and Pingyao regions have many cultural relics (such as Pingyao Ancient City, Qiao Family Courtyard, Chang Family Manor). Chongjiao Temple can be included as a stop on a Jinzhong cultural tour. 10. Practical Tips Confirm routes and traffic conditions with your phone map before traveling; download offline maps in case of poor signal in remote areas. Bring your ID and other documents, and have enough cash and mobile payment options (some small shops prefer mobile payments). If planning to participate in temple activities or shoot large scenes, communicate with the temple in advance to avoid disturbing religious events. Respect local customs and be polite when interacting with residents, especially in rural areas.
Definitely worth a visit! I had imagined it would be inside a cave, but I didn't expect it to be so thrilling and fun. We experienced hiking, felt the excitement, and also saw porcelain. The kids were very satisfied – a truly unique experience!
Anonymous userA spontaneous short trip took me to Taoyangli and the Imperial Kiln Museum. I highly recommend that the museum offer guided tours; otherwise, it's mostly just taking photos and checking off the list, making it difficult to understand the stories behind the porcelain and resulting in a less fulfilling visit. Jingdezhen's streets and alleys are intricate and the attractions are scattered, so riding an electric scooter is a convenient and easy way to get around, perfect for a leisurely stroll through the porcelain capital.
顺齐自然之Thank you, Ms. Yu, for your professional, meticulous, and engaging lecture. In just two hours, we learned about the history of porcelain development from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, as well as the Republic of China and the founding of the People's Republic of China, and appreciated exquisite porcelain pieces from each dynasty. Furthermore, Ms. Yu used her extensive professional knowledge to introduce various methods for identifying the age, type, use, style, and quality of porcelain, opening a new world for us. She even thoughtfully reminded us of the precautions for taking photos with the Silent Buddha. Her lecture was truly sincere and packed with valuable information. This trip was incredibly rewarding and I'm full of energy! 🥰
136***74I live in Lilin Town. I'd known about this nearby attraction for a while, but never went, thinking it was just some rocks and nothing interesting. I finally went after the Chinese New Year this year and was pleasantly surprised – much more fun than I expected! I highly recommend it.
Anonymous userIt's pretty good. Compared to Taoyangli and Taoxichuan, it's not too crowded. The main attractions are several ancient kiln sites, and a few people demonstrating the porcelain-making process in the workshops, allowing for close-up observation and interaction. There's also a porcelain music performance.
M42***94A cool place to be creative. Found at Building C6 is the star man group who run the activities booked. Our teacher spoke English and was super helpful and calm.
Ginge5Mr. Wang's explanation was very clear and accurate, which gave me a deeper understanding of the imperial kiln ceramic culture of Jingdezhen. He was also very responsible, meticulous and thoughtful in his work. I will definitely visit Jingdezhen again to learn more about ceramic culture and listen to Mr. Wang's explanation again!
M52***27It's worth a visit. Although it's a small, undeveloped scenic area, the natural scenery is still beautiful and perfect for taking photos. The lights are quite lovely at night. The area is large, and going up and down the mountain requires some physical exertion.
曾弈然✔️ Giant ceramic installations — perfect for photos and awe-inspiring in person✔️ Quiet, natural setting✔️ Artist studios and handmade ceramic shops✔️ Great spot for a half-day cultural escape
WenjingzThe tickets aren't cheap. However, the staff are all very dedicated. It's suitable for families with young children. The overall experience is quite good. The helicopter industry is a key development area for Jingdezhen.
