My first photography trip to the Northeast was in late September. The maple leaves had already turned, glowing in the sunlight like a blanket of fire. Heaven Lake at Changbai Mountain was as blue as a gemstone, reflecting the golden birch forests and distant snow-capped mountains—an unforgettable sight. On subsequent trips, I tried different vantage points—mountain tops, lakeside, and deep in the forest. Each offered a unique experience. I recommend using a wide-angle lens to capture the lake, mountains, and birch forests all in one frame. Spot 2: Red Leaf Valley. In autumn, the valley is blanketed in fiery red maple leaves. Sunlight filters through the leaves, creating dappled light and shadows. It’s stunning, like an oil painting. I recommend using a telephoto lens to compress the space and capture the depth of the foliage. It’s also a great spot for portraits—wear a white dress to create a striking contrast against the red leaves. Spot 3: Jingpo Lake. In autumn, the deep blue water reflects the golden birch forests and fiery red maple leaves. At sunset, the Diaoshuilou Waterfall glows golden. It’s beautiful, like an ink wash painting. I recommend shooting in the early morning or evening when the light is soft and the colors are rich. You can also photograph the starry sky; the autumn sky in Mohe is incredibly clear, and the Milky Way is very distinct. Autumn in the Northeast is beautiful but also very cold, with significant temperature differences between day and night. I recommend bringing warm clothing, such as down jackets, windbreakers, and thermal base layers. Also, the UV rays in the Northeast are strong, so remember to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. One more tip: the peak tourist season in the Northeast is from mid-September to early October. The maple leaves are stunning, but it gets very crowded, and photography spots can be hard to secure.
