Numazu City, besides being famous for its deep-sea fishing port, boasts a coastal area brimming with Japanese-style shops and charming street scenes. This time, I chose to take the train from Mishima to Numazu Port early Monday morning. Stepping off the train, I was greeted by blue skies, white clouds, and a refreshing sea breeze. A word of caution: many shops are closed on Mondays, so be sure to check opening hours when planning your trip—but this tranquility allowed me to appreciate the modern architecture and outdoor art along the way at a truly chill pace (the eye-catching red goldfish sculpture is a must-see, a perfect photo spot!).
This one-day trip to Numazu mainly focused on three popular restaurants near the port: Numazu Deep Sea Pudding Studio, Nishiyo, and Kakigoya, while also showcasing the most authentic "deep-sea" cultural landscape!
Attractions & Food Recommendations
📍 Numazu Deep Sea Pudding Studio
Address: 97 Sembon Minatomachi, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture 410-0845 The name itself is very appealing! Specializing in a variety of puddings and desserts, their signature dish is the deep-sea pudding with a rich ocean color (it looks perfect for photos 😋). Besides common desserts, they also offer limited-edition ice cream and deep-sea themed souvenirs. The interior decor echoes the outdoor red goldfish sculpture, creating a modern art feel – perfect for taking tons of photos! If they're not open on Mondays, consider getting a box of their popular Uji popsicles to go – a treat for dessert lovers!
📍 Nishiyo
Address: 109 Senbon Minatomachi, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture 410-0845
A popular sushi spot in Numazu Port, known for its fresh seasonal seafood. The restaurant has a simple atmosphere and friendly service, giving it a local feel. A must-try – the sashimi donburi! The thick-cut sashimi is excellent value, served with freshly seared sea urchin and sweet shrimp. It's quite lively at lunchtime. If you come on a Monday, it's recommended to arrive early (around 11 am) to queue, otherwise it will sell out quickly.
📍 Kakigoya, Numazu
Address: 97 Sembon Minatomachi, Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture 410-0845
Specializing in grilled oysters and charcoal-grilled seafood, the outdoor semi-open grilling area creates a great atmosphere. The ingredients are sourced directly from the port, resulting in fresh and sweet meat. Besides raw and cooked dishes, they also offer specialty drinks and beers. The daily seafood dishes are often snapped up by customers!
