Taitung Moments: Through Travelers' Eyes

While organizing my memory card, I found so many photos of Lanyu again. At the time, because I didn't have a scooter license and needed to take photos frequently, I chose to hike around the island. Another piece of information is that you can also rent electric bikes on the island, but the only shop is about 6 km away from the pier, and there aren't many bikes, so you need to contact the owner in advance.
The entire island has two main roads: a 37 km coastal road and a cross-island road that runs east to west. Of course, if you want to go hiking or diving at other attractions, you'll need more time.
The hiking route for the first day was from Kaiyuan Port along the north coast's coastal road to Dongqing Tribe, a distance of 15 km with basically no elevation gain. Since it was already the rainy season, these were the only two places on the island with convenience stores for supplies. Along the way, I met many kind villagers who offered to give me a ride, and some even wanted to give me water.
I think the most beautiful section of the route on Lanyu is this coastal road on the north shore. On one side are rolling green volcanoes, and on the other is the deep blue Pacific Ocean. You'll encounter many goats on the road, just lazily lying on the beach rocks to rest. The island's cemetery is in a nearby cave, and there are signs warning of venomous snakes nearby; I even saw dried, flattened snake skins on the road. I arrived at Dongqing Tribe just in time for sunset and checked into a hostel right next to the Dongqing Police Station.
The route for the second day started in the morning from Dongqing Tribe. I first took the island bus to the Township Office, then hiked from the Township Office to Kaiyuan Port, passing by Lanyu Airport along the way. The scenery in the west is more tropical, unlike the grassy volcanoes in the north. After resting for a while at Kaiyuan Port, I continued by taking the island bus back to Yeyin Tribe. The path from Yeyin Tribe to the Weather Station is the most convenient, requiring only about a 5 km walk. The Weather Station offers a complete panoramic view of the entire island, but the path is quite steep, and I encountered wild boars and hermit crabs along the way.
The route for the third day was to take the island bus from Dongqing Tribe to Qingqing Grassland, then hike in reverse from Qingqing Grassland back to the treatment plant. This section of the route has the most beautiful coastline, and this part of the road is built on a cliff, making it the most thrilling part of the entire island. In the afternoon, I returned to the homestay and caught a ride with my roommate to the pier.
There are only 4 buses per day on the island. They are small black vans, so you need to have exact change ready. They arrive earlier than the scheduled time, so be sure to plan your time in advance.
