Staying in an Alpine mountain-view cabin in Zermatt was absolutely breathtaking.

Anyone know, sisters!!! I stayed three nights in Zermatt, Switzerland, and I don’t want to go back home😭 The Alps in July are truly the peak of paradise. A natural 22°C air-conditioned room, and right outside the door are snow-capped mountains, meadows, and lakes all in one stunning view💥 🚂 First, how to get into this "car-free town" Since 1961, Zermatt has banned all fuel-powered vehicles and only allows electric carts. If you drive, you must park at Täsch, which costs 17 CHF per day. Take a ticket when entering the lot and pay at the machine when leaving. Then take the shuttle train into town. It costs 8 CHF per person one way, runs every 12 minutes, and takes about 10 minutes. ⚠️ Important: If you have a Swiss Half Fare Card (adult monthly card 150 CHF in 2026), this shuttle train is half price! Driving from Geneva is about 200 km and 3 hours, passing Montreux and Château de Chillon, which are great stops along the way. By train, it takes about 3.5 hours from Zurich to Zermatt with one transfer at Visp. 🏡 How to choose accommodation ⛰️ The mountain-view cabin I stayed in is on Bahnhofstrasse, turn south into the second alley, a six-minute walk from the train station, quiet yet central. ⛰️ The entire wall of floor-to-ceiling windows faces the Matterhorn. In the morning, you don’t even have to get out of bed to watch the golden sunrise slowly paint the mountain peak—it’s so moving it might bring tears. ⛰️ The balcony has a wooden long table and rattan chairs. At night, open a bottle of local Valais white wine🍷 and gaze at the starry sky. The summer night breeze carries the scent of pine—absolutely perfect. July is peak season, with average hotel prices over 3,000 CHF per night. Booking at least two months in advance is recommended! To save money, stay in Täsch where guesthouses cost half as much. It’s just a 20-minute shuttle train ride into town each day. 🌅 Early morning sunrise chase · Riffelsee lake reflection This was my most magical experience on the whole trip, no contest!! Sunrise in July is around 5:50 AM. You need to leave town at 4:30 AM and take the first Gornergrat mountain train from the GGB station opposite Zermatt train station. 🔸 Get off at Rotenboden station (2,819 m elevation), then a 10-minute walk to Riffelsee lake 🔸 On windless mornings, the lake surface is like a mirror, perfectly reflecting the triangular shape of the Matterhorn across the water 🔸 The golden sunrise lasts about 15–20 minutes. It’s best to set up your phone in advance for a time-lapse ⚠️ Morning temperatures on the mountain in July are about 5–8°C. Bring a windbreaker and fleece. Don’t wear short sleeves or you’ll freeze. 🚠 Gornergrat viewing platform · 360° Alpine panorama From Rotenboden, continue by train to the final stop, Gornergrat (3,089 m elevation). This is the terminus of Switzerland’s oldest electric cog railway, opened in 1898. 🔸 Round-trip full fare is 132 CHF. It’s 8.1 km and takes about 4 hours with stops for photos. 📍 Route: Take the cable car from Zermatt to Blauherd (2,571 m) → Stellisee → Grindjisee → Grünsee → Moosjisee → Leisee → Sunnegga cable car down 🔸 Cable car tickets: Zermatt to Blauherd one way 36.5 CHF, Sunnegga return one way 20 CHF, round trip 58 CHF 🔸 Stellisee is the largest of the five lakes. Zermatt Village | Souvenirs

Zermatt is really beautiful! In early October, the sun was shining and daytime temperature was around 21°C. At night, it gets colder. Everywhere you turn, you can see mountains in the background. Even walking around the village is so scenic! Zermatt has always been my dream place to visit. I'm so happy I finally got to come here and stay for a few nights. 🥹❤️ That's why most of my Switzerland souvenirs are from Zermatt or Zermatt-related. I wanted to bring home little keepsakes from my dream destination. 🚆 Getting to Zermatt We took the train from Zurich Airport to Visp, then changed to another train to Zermatt. The journey was scenic, but changing trains with luggage means lugging your bags up and down. Quite tiring if you have big suitcases! 🏔️ Things to Do in Zermatt Many people say Zermatt is expensive, and I agree! 😂 It's beautiful, but you need to budget for it. We went to Gornergrat (I've shared this in my other post), took the Glacier Express and explored Zermatt village on foot. Zermatt is a car-free village. Normal private cars aren't allowed, but electric taxis and authorised vehicles operate here.
