Spring flower extravaganza at the Panda Base

Spring flower extravaganza at the Panda Base

󰺂9.4
Spring’s flower-viewing season has arrived at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Blossoms are opening one after another, and with adorable pandas in the mix, the scene is pure poetry. The best time to visit is mid-January–mid-April. Across the base, you’ll find plenty of photo spots to capture the floral spectacle and freeze-frame the romance of spring with these lovable giants. [Wintersweet] January–February: Around Jiangyue Hall and Time Cafe, a subtle fragrance drifts through the air. The honey-yellow, semi-translucent petals of wintersweet fold gently, adding a refined touch to early spring. [Red plum blossoms] January–March: At Swan Lake, the Panda Statue Lawn, and near the Sun Nursery station, crimson and vermilion plum blossoms open proudly, signaling spring’s steady approach. [Taiwan cherry] January–March: The first dots of deep red Taiwan cherry bloom around the Rose Garden, charming and carefree, kicking off cherry blossom season. [Kanzan cherry, Oshima cherry] March–April: A pink tide sweeps over the Rose Garden. Petals as thin as cicada wings dance in the breeze, falling like confetti. The soft silhouettes of bamboo make the scene even more delicate. [February orchid] February–April: Near the Villa No. 3 shuttle station, a purple sea unfurls like a velvet carpet. Slender stems sway, as if spring were writing a love letter to the earth. [White magnolia] February–March: From the Moon Nursery to Swan Lake, pure white magnolias cluster on branches like palace lanterns, lightly fragrant and elegant. Purple magnolias and saucer magnolias bloom alongside, each vying for attention. [Peach blossoms] March–April: Along Swan Lake, peach blossoms gather on the branches like rosy clouds. As petals brush your shoulder, it feels like stepping into the heart of sunset light. [Flowering quince] January–April: At Panda Kitchen, the Moon Nursery, and the Rose Garden, fiery red flowering quince blooms cling to the branches, brimming with energy. [Fairy primrose] January–March: Across flower-border nodes, tiny blue-violet and rose-pink fairy primroses are in full bloom, sprinkling lively color among the greenery. [Fine-leaf miscanthus] December–March: Around the Panda Tower, fresh green fine-leaf miscanthus ripples in the wind, silken and threadlike, with shifting light and shadow that give the view a living, breathing quality. [Weeping crabapple] March–April: Near the Moon Nursery, billowy clusters of white and pale pink weeping crabapple glow like clouds. A gentle breeze sends petals tumbling, forming a soft carpet under the trees. Flowers and pandas share the frame, and every step reveals a new view. This spring, step into the panda base for a serendipitous date with nature.

󰺂8.9
From February 13 to March 3, 2026, the Chengdu Du Fu Thatched Cottage Museum will host its Chinese New Year cultural series, “Celebrate the People’s Day at the Cottage in Elegant Style.” Rooted in poetry and tradition, the festivities run from the twelfth lunar month’s 26th day through the Lantern Festival, filling every corner of the museum. [Spring market opening | An elegant debut] On the morning of February 13, Tang-dynasty court ladies dance, lions leap, and drums resound in front of Ten-Thousand-Buddha Pavilion. “Du Fu” and the “Caotang Fuwa” mascot stroll the grounds to share good wishes and unveil the Guangsha Twelve Rooms theme market, where classical charm meets modern flair in a vibrant spring tableau. [Igniting new chapters | Poetry meets the future] Handheld AI + AR devices link with AR glasses for scripted park quests, immersive augmented-reality tours, and interactive chats with the “Digital Du Fu.” Cutting-edge tech breathes new life into a millennium of verse, letting poetry come alive as you wander the gardens. [A garden in bloom | Plum and orchid in harmony] The 54th Red Plum Art Exhibition and the 4th Orchid Spring Exhibition open simultaneously, filling the Plum Garden, Orchid Garden, and Fragrance Trail with delicate scents. At the Caotang Art Center, the “Huahua Spring Blossoms” floral showcase invites you to dress up for photos, join elegant flower-arranging gatherings, and savor special springtime drinks. [Exhibits and gatherings | Continuing the cultural thread] Nine New Year exhibitions run in parallel: the permanent shows “Poetic Integrity” and “Loyalty, Filial Piety, and Integrity,” plus a display of ancient-book restoration results, a children’s painting and calligraphy show, three floral-themed exhibitions, an immersive traditional Chinese medicine gallery, and a poetry wellness tea lounge. [Fuwa brings blessings | Bustling market vibes] From the first to the seventh day of the new year, the “Fuwa Welcomes Spring” activities buzz with excitement: young calligraphers write Spring Festival couplets, while the Guangsha Twelve Rooms folk-art market stretches from Ten-Thousand-Buddha Pavilion to the Spring Night Rain Garden, offering handmade crafts, local treats, the Caotang Yiwei restaurant, and Chengdu Gifts cultural shop. [Poetry enriches Tianfu | Voices of youth] The public “I Love Sichuan Poetry” writing campaign continues, culminating in a children’s poetry gathering at Dayatang on the fifth day of the new year, where young voices recite classics such as “Hard Roads in Shu” and “Spring Night Rain.” Outside Caotang Academy, enjoy the accompanying exhibition “Poetic Sichuan” featuring children’s art and calligraphy. [People’s Day of poetry | Homage to the Sage] On February 23 (the seventh day of the lunar new year), Dayatang hosts a People’s Day ceremony honoring Du Fu, including hand-washing, reading of eulogies, offering plum branches, and a three-bow salute. From the first to the seventh day, Ten-Thousand-Buddha Pavilion and Dayatang alternately present daily performances of qingyin music, yangqin, bamboo zither, storytelling, face-changing opera, and classical poetry recitals.
