Red Brick Art Museum

红砖当代美术馆 The Red Brick Museum of Contemporary Art is a folk-based, non-profit art museum focused on the collection, research and exhibition of contemporary world and Chinese art. I have been here a few times the recent years and I think it is super cool and definitely worth the trip. It is a bit out of the way from the city center but you can actually reach it by subway and a little bit of walking. The entrance ticket varies from time to time, probably based on what exhibitions they have at the time and so today the ticket fee was 120 yuan each person. I have read that the architectural design of the museum was made by Professor Dong Yugan of Architecture Research Center of Peking University. He has been using red bricks as the basic in the architecture and has created a brilliant space for contemporary art both inside and outside. The garden outside is absolutely amazing and I have found myself finding new areas each time I am here. There is a cafe that normally served coffee, food as well as dessert while overlooking a small pound with amazing gardens around. If you are in Beijing and haven’t been here yet I really urge you to make the trip out. How to get there: Subway line 15 by the Maquanying station exit B. The museum is in fact an art exhibition hall and venue with an intriguing labyrinthine garden, replete with sculptural oddities and nooks and crannies to explore. There are also cafes inside amongst the foliage with outdoor areas for al fresco dining. All very tasteful and beautifully minimalist! We also had the pleasure of looking at the exhibition inside the main art gallery, an absolutely splendid space that showcased the artwork (at the moment this is Heidi Bucher’s exhibition) thoughtfully and creatively. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole place.

🔥 I’ve been there around 3 years ago and wanted to visit again and again. And here we gooo! In my favorite museum again. This is a magical place. I went on my birthday to be alone and enjoy the beauty of this place. It’s quite far from the city center and not easy to find but it definitely worths the time. Truthfully the building it’s self it more interesting to me that the art. Luckily exhibits change but the one I saw was really really weird. I think you can get a ticket for just the grounds but the gallery as a whole was about ¥180. Some on broke my camera literally ten minutes after getting there so all my photos are taken on my not as good phone camera but they still do a pretty good job showing how cool it is. I wanted to go back but never got the change. There is a cafe there and it’s not too expensive so you can get a drink to warm up if you go in the colder months. I didn’t get food so I’m not sure about that. Lots to see both inside and out!
