Ferrara Cathedral

The cathedral of Ferrara was built in the 12th century and the exterior walls of the gates are beautifully decorated and depict the final judgment, heaven and hell in biblical stories. Its pink-white facade is lined with carefully carved arcades, flower windows and sculptures, giving a fascinating glow in the sun. The lower facade is typical of early Romanesque features, while the upper vertical lines and pointed arches are distinctly Gothic. The central colonnade stands the Virgin Mary, while the upper triangular triangular ornaments engrave the scene of the "Last Judgment". The church bell tower, built in the Renaissance, is also staggered from pink and white marble. The interior was destroyed by fire in the 18th century, and the reconstruction was completely baroque.
