Kang-Youwei Former Residence

Guangdong Nanhai Sucun is the former residence of Foshan Kang Youwei, born here on March 19, 1858, to Kang Youwei born the Kang family has lived here for five generations, Kang Youwei called it "a hundred years old house". Now a key cultural relics protection unit in the country, nearby Kangyouwei Museum can be visited for free.

Kang Youwei’s former residence is composed of Kang Youwei Memorial Hall, Kang Youwei’s Former Residence, Kang’s Ancestral Hall, Kang’s Ancestral Hall, Kang Rulou, Songyu, Lotus Pond and other major buildings and scenic spots. The hall is clean and tidy, and the place is quite big. Kang Youwei's former residence, also known as "Yanxiang Ancient House", was built in 1858, and Kang Youwei was born in the ancient house. The former residence is a blue brick house with one living room, two bedrooms and two corridors. It is a typical Qing Dynasty house in the Pearl River Delta. Yanxiang Ancient House uses blue brick wall teak structure, antique. The ancient house hall has built a loft with black wooden boards, and there is a patio in the middle of the two corridors. The ancient house has good lighting and ventilation, warm winter and cool summer, and the environment is very comfortable. Yanxiang Ancient House is a well-reserved Qing Dynasty building with good viewing and research value. In this former residence, Kang Youwei read Chinese and Western books, initially formed a new ideological system, and wrote the first draft of the "Datong Book", which is still well-known at home and abroad.

Early in the morning of May 1, 2019-05-01, I accompanied my relatives to visit relatives in Danzao Town. After they visited relatives, I would go to Kang Youwei's former residence and have a look. We entered through the small gate. The plaque on the door was written by Kang Youwei "Datong". After entering, there was a "Kang Youwei Memorial" on the right side. However, the staff told us that the museum was closed and that the exhibits had been moved to the "Kang Youwei Museum" in front. We went ahead and turned into the lane and came to Kang Youwei's former residence, a Lingnan-style house with three galleries, which reproduced the decorations of the year. On the right wall of the main hall, there were pictures of Kang Youwei's parents. After seeing Kang Youwei's former residence, we went to the museum. What a large green area, there is also a large Bust Statue of Kang Youwei, the sculpture is called "Giant's shoulder". See here is a courtyard written "Kangyuan" is an ancient small courtyard. Later, it was discovered that "Kangyuan" was originally the general name of the whole park. Many materials in the museum introduce Kang Youwei's life and history story. It's a big museum. Listen to the villagers nearby, this area is recently requisitioned and newly built. I also saw the introduction in front of the door. The first, second and third phases of Kangyuan construction plan here are still under construction. If we come back later, we should see more perfect scenic spots.
