Hood, Mount, about 30 kilometers east of Portland, is Oregon's highest peak, 3,424 meters (11,235 feet), and the top of the mountain is snowy, looking like Mount Fuji in Japan. Mount Hood is an dead volcano, the last eruption was about 1865. It was first measured in 1792 by British navigator Braunton, named after British general Samuel Hood. Early immigrants were signposted by their snowy mountaintops. It is the center of the resort's Mount Hood National Forest and is also the world's famous ski peak, making it the most challenging peak for Americans to ski. Hood Snow Mountain is the largest night ski resort in the United States, and the most surprising thing is that it still offers skiing venues for ski lovers in the summer. It also has the world's best single-board training camp HCSC, a ski resort. There is a historic Lin Line Inn (Timberline Lodge) on the top of the ski resort that provides accommodation, dining, study and rest for skiers. The rustic-style rooms feature original hand-furnished furnishings, a TV with cable or satellite channels, ironing facilities and a private bathroom with a bath or shower and free toiletries. There is also an exhibition of ski history on the first floor of the inn.
