Hence, it was named 'Devil's City'. This time, I traveled 3500 kilometers from Shanghai to Xinjiang to visit the mysterious Devil's City haha. So excited. The place is vast, there's a map at the entrance so I took a photo for reference, and there are shuttle vehicles at each spot, even in the shape of a small train, which feels great driving through the desert and Gobi. They also play introductions of each scenic spot on the train, which is nice. The landscapes here are all shaped like things, and they almost exactly resemble the shapes described in the introductions... The key point is that they are all naturally formed, which makes me marvel at the wonders of nature. Not far into the park, there's camel riding for photos. It's 50 for a photo with the camel on the spot, and 150 for a ride and photo. My friends and I wanted to take photos for each other, but unexpectedly, the locals don't do cheap business, saying only the 150 option is available, totally ripping us off!! Humph, we don't care, we'll find our own place to take photos. Wuerhe Wind City, also known as the World Devil's City, is located in the Wuerhe mining area downstream of the Jiamu River on the northwest edge of the Junggar Basin in Xinjiang, about 100 kilometers away from Karamay City. There is a unique wind erosion landform here, strange in shape, called by the locals as 'Surumu Hak' and 'Shayitankerxi', meaning Devil's City. In fact, this scary Devil's City is a naturally formed Yardang landform, Yardang means 'steep hill' in Uighur. Yardang landform is a type of wind erosion landform formed in a dry and windy environment. The hills are blown by the wind to look like various buildings, some like the Six Harmonies Pagoda on the Qiantang River, some like the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, some like the Pyramids in Egypt, some like Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and even some like a soaring eagle.
