China's Top 10 Scenic Waterfalls

Hukou Waterfall, located in Yan'an City, Shaanxi Province. It is a national scenic spot with 4A rating. The upstream width area of the Yellow River is 300 meters, but within a distance of less than 500 meters of the waterfall, it is compressed to a width of 20-30 meters. The river pours 1000 cubic meters per second from a steep cliff that is more than 20 meters high, hence forming "a thousand miles of Yellow River poured from a teapot." Every summer, owing to changes in the flow of water above the mouth of the teapot, everyone can see the wonderful sight of multiple waterfalls.

It is located in Anshun City, Guizhou Province, and is one of the world's most famous waterfalls, the waterfall’s height is 77.8 meters, of which the main waterfall is 67 meters high. Huangguoshu Waterfall is typical of waterfalls, it was formed through erosion in a unique karst landform. When the water flow is large enough, you can hear the roaring sound of water from two or three miles away. The waterfall is at the left of the cliff, and to the right is flourishing grassland; the scenic beauty is amazing.

Kadinggou Tianfo Waterfall is located at the Tibet National Highway 318. It is 24 kilometers away from Bayi Town Lhasa to Linzhi and 2,980 meters above sea level. It is located on the Niyang River, a tributary of the Yarlung Zangbo River, and it is sacred to the hearts of the Tibetan people. Here, the mountain ranges and the mountainous areas are continuous and magnificent. On the left side of the cliff the waterfall has a drop of more than 200 meters, it’s as though the water falls from the sky. What is even more amazing is the large Buddha that has naturally formed in the waterfall, but it is hidden, hence the Tianfo Waterfall is named after this.

Detian Waterfall is located in Chongzuo City, Guangxi Province. The annual average water flow is three times that of Huangguoshu Waterfall. The waterfall is a category 3 fall. The maximum width is more than 200 meters, and the depth is more than 60 meters. It falls over 70 meters. The sound of the water is deafening and its momentum is very powerful. The best time to visit is from June to November. Due to the amount of precipitation during the season, the water is high and clear, which makes it the best time to watch the waterfalls.

It is one of the two major landscapes of the Munigou Scenic Area, which is 3,270 meters above sea level. The drop point is 3,176 meters above sea level and the waterfall’s height is 93.7 meters. The waterfall is stepped and has multiple layers, starting with a lake at the top, and flowing down stepped riverbeds below. Water from the lake falls rapidly from the huge steps to form a huge waterfall body that sounds like a thousand horses galloping as it flows beneath the sun.

The waterfall is located one km to the west of Tengchong County, Yunnan Province. It is surrounded on all sides by cliffs and the river falls from the 46-meter-high cliff into a deep pool, which looks as if it is folded into two. The waterfall swells over the top of the rocks and huge stones stand out creating different patterns. Due to its location on a low latitude plateau and complex terrain, it forms a three-dimensional climate of "one mountain divided into four seasons and ten different days" with an average annual temperature of 14-17 degrees; therefore, it can be visited all year round.

The waterfall is located to the south of Chishui City, Guizhou Province. The waterfall’s scenic area has natural cultural landscapes such as Shizhangdong Waterfall, Zhongdong Waterfall, Qibing Ancient Road, the Wonders of the Turning Stone, Xiangxi Lake, the 100 mu of Camellia, Stalagmite Peak, Yi Nian Lingzhi, Huishui Temple Moyan Statues as well as landscapes such as the Red Army Banner. The Shizhang Waterfall is 76 m high and pours down from the cliffs, the air filled with water vapor creating a mist for a few hundred meters. The trees around the waterfall are lush, and rainbow landscapes are photographed often.

The waterfall is located in the north of the Tianchi Lake in Baitou Mountain. Water flows out from Tuen Mun on the north side of Tiantou Lake in the Baitou Mountains, here, a long-lasting river is formed. The waterfall is 68 m high and falls just like Bailian fell from the sky. It is such a magnificent scene that visitors don’t want to leave. The best period to view the waterfalls is from late June to early September; this time in Tianchi is the golden season to watch the flowers and birds.
