Beppu Hot Springs: Jigoku Spring wonderland Beppu is located in Oita Prefecture and has more than 2,500 hot springs. The water in the hot springs is the most out of all the hot springs in the country. In addition to the hot springs, there is also a landscape called “Eight Hells”. It is smoggy all year round, just like the “purgatory” mentioned in several major religions. "Eight Hells" refers to the Sea Hell, Main Stone Archway Hell, Mountain Hell, Salt Works Hell, Ghost Mountain Hell, White Pool Hell, Blood Pool Hell, Dragon Scroll Hell. Each of the “Eight Hells” has its own characteristics. For example, the spring water in the Blood Pool Hell is blood red as its name suggests.
