Exhibitions
The Suit Yourself display reveals how fashionable men in the 18th and 19th centuries would flaunt themselves dressed in flamboyant striped velvet, floral embroidery and rich silk fabrics. This use of vibrant colours and contrasting textiles flourished during the ‘macaroni’ period from 1750 to 1770. The style evolved in the 19th century with industrialisation, which increased the availability of fabrics and ready-to-wear garments. A highlight of the display is the evening coat decorated with 4,000 rhinestones that would have sparkled in the candlelight with every movement.

In 1951, under the shadow of the Cold War, the Dutch government introduced a system requiring museums to classify their collections for wartime evacuation. "Evacuation markings" determined which works should be prioritized for preservation: red for "very important," white for "important," and blue for "less important." This exhibition at IMC Gallery focuses on those forgotten blue markings. What does it mean—and ourselves—when a work of art has been labeled "less important"?

The jury believes that Lutjehnhuis, Orsepa, Usu, and Sivani all demonstrate the future potential of art in their own ways. One stood out with a powerful exhibition that immediately caused a sensation in the art world; another convinced audiences with a rich and diverse range of expressions across multiple exhibitions. One artist clearly articulated his stance on pressing social issues; another offered profound personal reflections on the meaning of humanity. The jury noted that all four nominees possess unique visual languages and compelling artistic concepts, although for most of them, their artistic careers are still evolving.
