The old five-star hotels are different, they don’t make people feel constrained. I don’t know if I was too lucky, but three managers served me at the front desk (I guessed, I stole a glance and saw that they all had golden name tags): Manager Li, Manager Ren, Manager Wen (I hope I’m not mistaken, please forgive me if I’m wrong). Yes, and Brother Wang from the concierge department, his Beijing dialect is so nice (he looks a bit like my ex-boyfriend…) I have to stay in this hotel next time!!!

I travel a lot and my impression is that the hotel was a tired looking 'slipped from grace' place. In China the star system is never up to the same system internationally. Marco polo beijing would be 3 star In room: 1. Mould above shower 2. Old faded taps 3. Fridge not working 4. A/C didn't work 5. No milk for complimentary teas/coffees 6. Bathroom sink very slow to drain First room had A/C not working so we were moved to another room which also.didn't work. Told them about fridge-no action Asked re milk- told to go across road and buy my own Asked re sink. Grumpy guy came, said ”it still works” and rushed off. It was still slow which means other people's waste was occluding it still General appearance from staff was that they were tired of complaints and therefore ignored them. Carpet in front of concierge desk summed up hotel; tired, worn out and in need of urgent care. When I mentioned it to a staff member he said ”yes it looks terrible but what can you do?” and shrugged his shoulders Breakfast was very good but nothing else cam close to what Marco Polo pretends to be. The price I paid should have been halved at least. I will never go back and will evermore avoid Marco Polo chain.

I stayed here for two nights again in 2024, but I can’t comment on the latest order, so I will comment on this first “to be reviewed” order at the end of 2023! The hotel is very clean and the location is very good. It is surrounded by residential buildings and is very quiet. There are many restaurants nearby, including old Beijing fried noodles hahaha~ The price-performance ratio is really high, and the guys and girls at the front desk are super gentle. Because I have been here many times, the staff on every shift have felt it, hahahaha. There is a large ”pot” of oranges at the front desk, which you can eat for free! And free tea! at checkin I asked for a free upgrade (like I always do, because you never know unless you ask), but nobody could speak even a little English, so the staff didn't understand me. when I came into the room, it was one without windows. first I didn't care much, but it was unbearable warm (28 degrees) inside and even after 2 hours with AC on full power, it didn't get cooler. so I asked to change the room and double checked on my booking, turned out I in fact got downgraded at checkin. I did get a new room with window, but same problem with heat over there, AC not working at all (picture taken in the morning after whole night set to 18 degrees), although the window helped a little. outside it was around 20 degrees in daytime and 10 in the nighttime, but the window was just too small to exchange enough air with outside, especially when the curtain is closed. I don't want to imagine the room temperature in summer, when you have outside temperatures of 35 degrees in the daytime and 25 in the night... for this price I didn't expect to get such a bad service and environment. other thoughts: very nice and modern design and very clean. the doors are not very soundproof, you can hear every voice loud and clear, when people talk in front of the door. the location is okay, you have a subway station ”nearby” (10 minutes walk), but nothing really interesting in the direct neighbourhood. breakfast I didn't try, so I cannot say anything about it. gym is a joke and only good for taking a picture for your WeChat moments. all in all I'd say there are way better options in this price segment and I wouldn't come here again.
