The following is the copy of an email sent a week ago to Britannia hotels main email address. To date, I have received no response but neither did I expect one. - I'd like to tell you of our experience of staying at the Palace Hotel, Buxton. 13th and 14th September, 2022. On arrival at the hotel one cannot fail to be impressed by this fine old building with fitting décor in the entrance lobby and communal area. Unfortunately, this is where the impressiveness ends. Check in – 3 or 4 stations at the reception desk, only 1 manned. Thankfully we were 2nd in line and on glancing behind us when it was our turn saw about 30 people behind us queuing out of the glass doors and back to the revolving door. No welcome from the receptionist and I was quite surprised that when I asked about using my card for charges to our room for wine etc. was told that you pay as you go. Not quite what you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Booked a table for dinner – we were booking in at 4 pm but the earliest option for a table was 8.30 pm. Our Room – we had booked an executive twin room and whilst the room was spacious it lacked character and was in fact quite sp**** . We understood that there was no room service but assumed this would be for change of towels, little did we know that there would be no emptying of bin or replenishment of tea/coffee/milk and sugar. No guest information folder in the room, which we would expect to find. Dining – dinner. 4 staff ( I won't give them the title of waiter/waitress/hostess as it would be doing a disservice to those who do this role properly) at the desk at the front of the restaurant and given a menu and taken to a table. We were given to understand that meals were buffet style but the comment from the staff member who had taken us to our table who told us it was self service we found her description was more realistic. In actual fact for the help that was given throughout our stay you might as well have trays situated at the front because the service is more akin to a poorly run motorway service station. That again is giving a disservice as there is a far better selection of food on offer there. We asked for wine menu and were told it was in the menu folder, it wasn't. The staff member said she'd get one, took the menu away and neither were seen again. We opted for soup which we had to help ourselves to from an electric soup tureen, after we asked what it was. After one mouthful, found it was lukewarm so took it back to another staff member who took the soup bowls from me saying she'd tell chef. Well, that helped a lot didn't it as neither of these were seen again either! We had to have the pate or salad as these were the only other things on offer as a starter. Back up to the hot cupboards for our main course – on offer, 1 choice of roast - turkey, fish in sauce which looked as though that had been there for the whole of the service time and a sweet potato curry. We stayed at this hotel overnight during our trip to Peak District and Yorkshire. We booked this hotel due to my Accor All membership and we had minimal expectations considering this is an Ibis Budget hotel. The hotel is at the edge of the city but very central, only a few minutes walk to the main city centre. It seemed quite new/recently furbished and the rooms were simple but had all the necessities. The lobby is really nicely decorated and the staff are really welcoming and enthusiastic. Here are a few more details on my visit: Welcome: The reception staff was very efficient. It literally took 2 minutes to get our room keys. We were welcomed with a recognition of my Accor All status and offered free welcome drinks. The room was ready and waiting for us. Room: The room is simple but allowed us to stay comfortably as 3 people. The room was clean and there were tea/coffee making facilities, hangers and towels. I only felt the need to have a small table or something to put our stuff on since there was only a small amount of space that you can use as table top but it is a really minor improvement overall. Dining: Our stay included breakfast. The breakfast was nice and included many different options. However, there were hot ”English breakfast” style food. It really didn't matter since there are still boiled eggs and lots of options. I really enjoyed our breakfast. Location: While the hotel is really central, there are parking available around the hotel. We used the on street parking on the back street with a bit of worry for the safety of the car over night but it was ok. The hotel also has its own car park but it is 8£ overnight. Staff: Really friendly. They accommodated our needs at the best level service. I couldn't ask for a better staff. Overall, great hotel to stay when you are in Sheffield. Since the hotel is a budget hotel, you should have low expectations while arriving. But I'm sure it will go above and beyond your expectations when you are there.

Everything is nice. But I just worry about the young lady at the reception. She seems has some problems with smiling, I found she couldn’t smile at us, she seems can only smile at those white people. She seems also has a problem with her ear that she couldn’t hear my room number correctly since the card couldn’t open the door and it needed to be fixed. Well, Sheffield is a nice city any way.

I didn't book the old hall, but this one is really good. The cleanliness and comfort of the room is my most important. The decoration is red classical style. There is a wedding atmosphere under the floor.

I would highly recommend the Crowne Plaza Victoria for any conference or large-scale event; the team here, in particular Emily Evans, were friendly, outgoing and went above and beyond to ensure that our conference ran smoothly. Before arriving at the hotel, the team was in constant contact with our team to ensure that our delegates rooms were booked, our menu selection for our formal dinner was confirmed and that dietary requirements would be met. Furthermore, after highlighting that some of our delegates would be observing Ramadan, the team not only provided packed breakfasts for these delegates so that they could continue to take part in suhoor, signage was created to highlight where the prayer room would be over the course of our stay. As the Crowne Plaza Victoria is a hotel there will be other guests who have booked their rooms months in advance, once the team realised that we would be six rooms short, the hotel across the road was contacted to enquire whether they had any availability to accommodate our overflow. Once confirmed that they did, all we had to do was inform the team who would be staying at this hotel and their dietary requirements; the fact that the Crowne Plaza was so proactive in providing a solution to a problem we were not aware of was so greatly appreciated and highlighted to us that this was a venue/ team which wanted to ensure that we and our delegates had the best time with them before we had even arrived! In addition to this, the team’s dedication to ensuring that our conference ran smoothly was further highlighted by Emily physically moving the tables all by herself when we realised that the position of certain tables obstructed the view of the presentation. All requests such as; additional labelling for food, temperature control of the main room were completed swiftly, even by hotel staff whom were not directly assigned to looking after us. All the food provided was amazing, whether it was lunch, snacks or the food served at dinner, you could tell that an incredible amount of detail was given. I could not recommend this hotel and team enough!

Lovely hotel with easy access to the city and an incredible buffet breakfast. Close to restaurants and public transport. We loved the indoor pool!

We have just returned from an overnight stay at Fischers where we celebrated my sister’s 70th birthday. Everything was spectacularly good! The elegant property stands in beautiful grounds on the edge of Baslow, one of Derbyshire’s most attractive villages. We occupied 2 rooms - a junior suite in the main house and a Garden Room in an adjoining building. They had very differing styles but both were spacious, attractively furnished and decorated and with all the extras one would expect in this quality of hotel. The beds and bedding were luxurious. The staff were, without exception, friendly, helpful and professional. The main attraction of the hotel, however, has to be the food which is of exceptional quality. Our package included the Classic a la carte dinner which included a variety of nibbles, a starter, a 2nd course, a 3rd course, an optional cheese course and dessert. The menu is imaginative and offers ample choice - I would say that the food deserves a Michelin star. The only slightly disappointing element was the dessert which was not executed with the same finesse as the other courses . 3 of us had the pineapple tarte tatin which was over-caramelised and made the pastry rock hard! Overall ,though, our dining experience was fabulous. Breakfast was equally good.

We can’t recommend this hotel highly enough. Situated right at the centre of historic Bakewell, it makes a great base for exploring Chatsworth, Haddon etc. The front of house service is second to none. The owner bent backwards to engage with our little boy and make him/us feel welcome. Our room was enormous and the bed super comfy. There is paid parking just across the road. We booked dinner elsewhere and the food was abysmal. We arrived back at the hotel and even though the kitchen was due to close, the owner and chef kindly whipped up something for us to eat. Customer care really sits at the heart of this hotel. We’re only sorry we only booked to stay one night. We’ll absolutely book again next time we’re in the area
