We recently stayed at this hotel for a ski trip, expecting a 5-star experience as rated. While the location and resort were beautiful, our stay started off stressful due to poor communication and service issues. Although things improved, the overall experience did not meet 5-star standards. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our room, which had a stunning view. However, we soon discovered significant water damage in the bathroom ceiling, with water dripping down. After reporting it, a staff member inspected the issue but left without further communication. Frustrated by the lack of clarity, we had to seek further explanation ourselves down at reception. After a long travel day, we had to repack and move. We were offered free drinks (only after asking). Dinner was also disappointing - two overly salty pasta dishes and a couple of glasses of wine cost €100, which felt excessive for the quality. Hoping for a better experience, we stayed optimistic. The next afternoon, after skiing, we returned at 2:30pm expecting our new room to be ready. It wasn’t. Instead, we were told we needed to check in again, despite already checking in the night before and moving rooms once. We were left waiting in the lobby, tired, and in full ski gear with nowhere to go. We opted for the spa but had to retrieve our luggage from storage and unpack our belongings in the middle of reception, which was not only inconvenient but also embarrassing. The front desk made no effort to assist or provide alternatives. Adding to the frustration, we were initially asked to pay for spa access. Only after explaining our situation did the spa receptionist kindly let us in for free, a gesture that should have obviously been arranged by management. When our new room was finally ready at 4pm, it was an upgrade but lacked a bath, and the breathtaking view of our original room. When we raised our concerns with a manager, we felt we had to push for fair compensation. Initially, they offered just a free spa session. After discussion, they agreed to a discount on the first night, but the negotiation process felt unprofessional. Other issues further diminished our stay: No rosé or beer available at the bar one evening. Only one towel provided in our room. Housekeeping diluted our body wash instead of replacing it. Housekeeping knocking at 9am daily, seeming annoyed when we were still inside. One evening, a group of visibly intoxicated guests, seemingly under the influence of more than just alcohol, disrupted the bar, shouting profanities and engaging in illicit behaviour. Instead of intervening, staff greeted them warmly, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere after an already stressful day. That said, some positives deserve mention. Management responded quickly to issues, even if the solutions were lacking. The concierge, waitstaff, porters, spa team, and bar staff were lovely and friendly. The ski-in/ski-out access and ski shop were excellent, and the live music in the evening was f

Incredible experience in all aspects! Beautiful hotel and rooms. Gorgeous views. Perfectly located close to restaurants and lift to slopes. Staff are very attentive, courteous, and extremely helpful. Nina was above and beyond and made our stay wonderful. One of the best hotels we have stayed at. Highly recommend.

We spent the week of New Year's Eve in the Grandes Rousses Hotel. It was a real 5-star-hotel experience. The staff was friendly and helpful, the lobby/bar area/restaurant was modern and cosy. The fact that the ski rental was in the hotel building itself was very comfortable. Our room (a deluxe room for 1 adult and 2 teenagers) in the new building was as stylish as the bar. The beds (even the single bed) were really comfy with the best duvets I have ever experienced in France. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the price of the hotel: 30 EUR per day for the breakfast. 30 EUR per day for parking on the street in front of the hotel. 25 EUR for 1 hour for the spa. 10 EUR for a tea in the bar. Plus an expensive room rate. I am not sure if we had enjoyed the "older" rooms in the main building as much: Their view on the mountains is better, however, the style of this building appears a bit outdated.

My partner and I travelled to Alpe D’Huez on the 30th of March and we had a fantastic stay at Grandes Rousses Hotel & Spa. Room Initially we had booked a classic room and once we checked in we were very disappointed as it did not align with our expectations from the pictures. Mainly because the room was very dark and lacking natural light. Also the wardrobe was in bathroom which we found very strange and not suitable to keep our clothes. We returned to reception and the receptionist was very polite and looked to see if there was an alternative room available. After consulting with a manager we were shown to a triple room which was south facing and much more aligned with our expectations and we gladly accepted this new room. The manager who showed us to this room was very polite and professional. Changing to this room hugely improved our room as everyday we woke to a beautiful view of the village and mountains. We can’t thank the hotel enough for moving us to this room. In future I would automatically book a triple room for the extra space, we had 3 suitcases so needed it. Or a panoramic room / superior. Check in experience We drove and upon arrival the the hotel porter unloaded our car and once we checked in brought our luggage up to our room and also came to move our luggage to the new room. We were also given a tour of the hotel by the receptionist and explained all that was available. It was very smooth and professional. Bar Decorated to a high standard with a wide variety of food/snack and drinks. Good wine menu and a sommelier on hand to assist if needed. Service was a little slow but quality of food/drink was very good and staff very polite. Restaurant We ate in l'Esperance and the food was very high quality and service was very good. As expected for a 5 star hotel. Breakfast Breakfast was fantastic, a wide range of all food you could want before a day on the slope. Fresh fruit, cakes, pastries, breads, cold hand & cheeses, bacon, sausage, egg etc. Wide range of fresh juices. Overall we were very happy and couldn’t have asked for more. This week was extra special for my partner and I as I proposed one of the days out on the slopes. I had also brought with me some decorations for the room which the hotel concierge happily assisted me in decorating the room with the rose petals and balloons I had provided. I also asked for a bottle of Champagne to be waiting in the room upon our return, which it was, a lovely bottle of Blanc de Blancs. So again, thank you very much to the hotel staff for making our stay extra special. Overall I highly recommend Grandes Rousses, it lives up to its 5* rating and we look forward to returning again in the future.

We just spent a week here, and as we mentioned the service is world class and deserves recognition. Everyone, from front desk to the people helping with fixing the room do a great job with a friendly smile! Well done. The hotel is also very well located in the village, and with nicely set up facilities, bar and restaurant. Breakfast is great. Only small minus, the room was a little small (but we are in the alps. The south facing terrace is great with a fabulous view!

Firstly, this is not a 5 star hotel! We booked this hotel for our honeymoon hoping for a relaxing cosy ski week. When we arrived they do not give off a friendly welcome. We were just stared at by the check in staff and we had to speak first it was all very strange! They told us absolutely nothing about the hotel, it’s amenities or where anything is. All we had to do was pay an excessive deposit of 700 euros! No personalised welcome considering it’s a 5 star and our honeymoon which they already knew. Room: There are 2 sections to this hotel: the new area and the old area. The new area looks much better so make sure you book that if you want to stay here. We got given honestly the worst room in the hotel. Right at the side down a small corridor: the room smells like body odour every time we come into it. I’ve realised it’s the wall cushions which probably never get cleaned and are permanently attached to the wall. There is an open hole in the bathroom with electrical wires sticking out- see photos. Hairs in the glasses. Bathroom blind is broken. Decor very strange and not cosy. We received an email after the first night asking for feedback. I gave my feedback and have not heard anything since! I’m currently on day 5. We rang down and asked to change rooms if possible as we were not happy with the smell and they said no it’s fully booked. Not even anything offered to make up for it. They haven’t contacted us since. We are very disappointed that this is our honeymoon and there is not one personalised touch. Something you would expect from a 5 star experience? The service: Terrible service throughout the hotel. They left a plate of food in our room for 2 days! I had to call and get it taken but they said leave it in the corridor. The bar downstairs you wait ages for a drink or the bill and have to go and ask yourself. If you ring reception and ask for something they don’t bring it. We also went into the spa area and was told we can’t use it as it’s 12 people only and have to book - when we looked inside it was near enough empty. Something we should have been told by check in staff? No idea we had to book it. Restaurants looked empty every single night and considering they told us the hotel is fully booked I somehow think they just couldn’t be bothered to move our room or find the manager. They also never told us about any of the restaurants or when they open etc. The only good parts about this hotel is the ski shop linked to it, the staff in there are so helpful and friendly! Location: Good location ski in and out and links to the main ski areas. I would not stay here again, you can definitely get more for your money elsewhere. They need to work on service and attending to guests needs. We are very disappointed!

We choose the Grand Rousses Hotel as it was one recommended by the Alp d’Huez Triathlon Organizers this year. On the day of the triathlon, they didn’t have our preordered breakfast ready (as the shuttles buses were departing at 7am, and it was a 20min walk to the bus we had to preorder), told us to leave the breakfast area even as the main breakfast was being laid out and were quite defensive of the issue at checkout (additionally adding many incorrect charges). This hotel needs to rethink its service to athletes participating in an event they promote.
