Koh Chang Resort

We stayed here for a week with our family and child. This was our third time at this hotel, with the last visit being about 10-12 years ago. We love the location – it's close to 7/11, Lotus, massage parlors, pharmacies, and cafes offering a wide selection of Thai, European, and Russian cuisine. The beach is excellent, and there's a good variety of breakfast options.

This is a good 3-star hotel. The rooms are a bit run-down and need renovation, but it's clearly underway, with some rooms and areas already being worked on. Housekeeping was done almost every day (only missed a couple of times during our 12-night stay), but the cleaning itself was about a 4 out of 5; the wet cleaning could be done more often. On the first day, we were given a room on the 3rd floor of the main building, as requested. We were also pleasantly surprised with a wedding anniversary greeting. The balcony with a sea view was fantastic! However, the door to the balcony was translucent and faced almost directly onto a busy road. We ended up tracking traffic all night. The next day, they moved us to an inner building without any fuss. This room was pretty decent too, but construction workers started laying tiles outside our window at 8 AM… 😄. The room was a bit tired, and the air conditioning was noisy at night, but for the price, I think it was pretty good value. A new bar opened on Dec 22nd, but on Dec 23rd, our mood was soured when they tried to charge hotel guests 1000 baht. They eventually resolved the incident and apologized, but the situation with this new bar and pool remained a bit tense. Overall, it was a good stay.

We always used to stay in the bungalows at this hotel. The rooms aren't new, of course, but everything was fine. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the 'center'. However, this year, due to renovations at the main pool, sun loungers now cost money – from 250 baht for one to 1000 baht for a double. The only free ones are a couple by the small pool, and you have to be quick to grab them. We ended up having to buy a mat. This definitely soured the mood, which is why this review isn't as positive.

This is something else entirely; you're not entering a hotel, but a construction site. To get a sun lounger, you have to pay 1000 baht, or lie without an umbrella. In the last 15 years, this is the first time I've paid for accommodation and then somehow had to pay for a sun lounger. The next step will probably be paying to enter the sea. Definitely never coming back here!!!

The location is excellent. The breakfast selection isn't huge, but everything is delicious, and they have coffee machines. There's some renovation going on, but it didn't bother us. The only major issue is that there are hardly any free sun loungers for hotel guests. The few they have offer little to no shade, and there are even fewer umbrellas than loungers. Conveniently, though, by the small pool near the beach, you can rent very comfortable loungers for 1000 baht a day. And the basic ones by the main pool (about 14 of them) cost 500 baht a day. So, hotel guests essentially have to pay for sunbeds, which is a huge drawback. Everything else was good.
