Where to start? On arrival as a group of eight friends, all retired adults, asked about parking in the marked car park and informed that was not a problem. After a walk to Malham Cove we returned to check in and all appeared fine, staff at this point were cheerful and helpful. The rooms were extremely dreary require urgent care and number 10 is certainly not a double as we had a holdall and couldn't manoeuvre around the bed! We had no hanging space for clothes. The weather was excellent however the sun was shining on the rear beer garden and not the seated area at the front,so we asked how to access said garden and were told no as they didn't have enough staff to supervise both inside, outside front and the beer garden,,,we are a sensible group consisting of two retired nurses,a retired paramedic, retired Police officer and a barrister's clerk, but we obviously need supervision from a bar person younger than our children! The evening Sunday dinner was very good and we decided to stay in the restaurant area for more drinks however at 9.30pm we were told to go to bed as the staff were going home! First time in 52 years I have been sent to bed before 10pm. Breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9.30 , my wife and I arrived at 8.45 and and asked for milk for cereal, not too unusual, only to be told " no!" We asked for orange juice, the jug was almost empty and again we were told "no!" No explanation given. This man was either the owner or manager and had the worst interpersonal skills for someone who is trying to run a hotel. Breakfast was limited to what he could cook on a grill so not a good variety. We went for a walk around Malham after mentioning our vehicles were in the car park and Basil Fawlty told us the car park had nothing to do with the hotel despite the large sign indicating the Buck Inn car park and the previous days staff saying it was okay. There are other nicer places to stay in Malham and I would advise you to choose one of those.
