Dar Ikalimo Marrakech

Marrakech|0.09km from Dar El Bacha Museum
This property has loads of character and whimsical outdoor art and colors. We were the only guests. There are several birds - peacocks, geese, Guinea fowl, chickens - and penned up goats/horse. It is located in the High Atlas Mountains, near Ourika Valley, 1 hour from Marrakech. It gets mostly Moroccan guests, not foreigners. From road, you walk across a bridge to a reception of singers to greet you with milk and dates. Then you walk through outdoor dining areas and up 223 very steep steps to a big room for settling in with mint tea, water and snacks. Up a few more stairs to the guest rooms. Porters prance up easily, carrying your luggage. Singles are on the first level (very small, no view) and doubles, etc (huge, lots of storage, balconies with mountain view, but no WiFi) one level higher. Strong WiFi in rooms, multiple networks, different network in public areas. My single room, tiny but cozy. Warm a/c, tv with satellite channels (small flat screen). 3 hooks on back of door for hanging things. No closet 2 twin beds pushed together tightly for full size bed. 2 night stands, 1 small bureau. Very limited room to put anything. Nowhere to put things in bathroom. Shower head to left, sink straight ahead, toilet to right. Really comfy, firm bed and wonderful fluffy bed covering, sheets and pillows. Extra blankets in high-up storage space by a/c. I could barely reach the knob to open it and then couldn’t reach the blankets (and no chair to stand on!). Thick and not too rough towels. Rugs on tile floor. Bamboo ceiling and round branch-like hanging light. Took awhile for shower to get warm, then very low water pressure. Afternoon water pressure good and water got hot. Staff is extremely friendly and demonstrate excellent customer service. The property began as a restaurant and they later built hotel rooms last year. Breakfast included barley soup (with milk), oj, coffee, M’Semen (square naan-like bread - the best here of anywhere I had it), round crepes, round/cornmeal type bread, plain omelet (good) with greens, olives, honey, oil, argan oil and peanut (like peanut butter), thyme, dates. Wonderful lunch - very flavorful veggie tangine including fennel and fresh herbs. Dinner is ordered from a menu. I was not crazy about the food but may have ordered the wrong things (puréed veggie soup - maybe fava bean and omelet with cheese, canned mushrooms, onions).

Riad Ramz

I stayed at this riad over half-term with two children (9 & 16)and we had a very happy time. We were originally supposed to be staying at Darikalimo but were given the option of a nicer room in this brighter, more spacious Riad just next door… the location is very good as it’s a short walk to the souks and all the attractions of the Medina are nearby. We ate breakfast on the roof each day, which was a variation of local bread, butter and jam/honey and on various days we had cake, eggy bread and homemade pancakes. Plus tea/coffee and delicious fresh orange juice. My son was given fresh milk and bananas each day on my request and no charge was ever sought. The riad staff were all happy, generous with their time and helpful in the extreme, whether it was with directions, making restaurant reservations or personally taking me to the nearby laundrette and an interiors shop that wasn’t marked on any map. The decor is fresh and airy. Our beds were made daily and decorated with flower petals. My only negative is that it could be a bit noisy in the night but it didn’t bother us. If you are noise sensitive, you may wish to consider if riad living is a good idea for you. WiFi is patchy but if you need fast speeds for downloads, you can almost always find it in nearby restaurants/bars.
Riad Ines Home

We booked 4 nights at Riad Ines Home, as part of a flight & hotel package with Opodo. We were really looking forward to our Marrakech trip, as it was originally planned for Easter 2020, but due to the COVID pandemic it was cancelled and it took us 3 years until we were able to rebook it. A few weeks before our flight, I contacted Riad Ines Home via email, to check that they had our room booking (weirdly I never do that when I book packages online, we just show up on the day, but I had a weird premonition…) and I got the response that there was no availability for those dates. I kept insisting with emails, but received no reply, and had to resort to sending messages via Whatsapp to the phone numbers listed on their website, hoping for a response. The manager, Houda, eventually responded via Whatsapp that there was an issue with a double-booking for the first 2 nights, but that she would find an alternative solution for us, and that we shouldn’t worry, and should not cancel our trip. She indeed delivered, and booked us at a neighbouring Riad for the first 2 nights (Riad Les Trois Palmiers El Bacha, see review in my profile), which was just 10 meters away from Riad Ines Home, at no extra cost. We then moved to Riad Ines Home for our last 2 nights. The Riad is quite small (we had booked it on purpose, as we wanted a more cosy and quiet experience) and has only 5 rooms set around a beautiful central courtyard with a small ornamental pool and beautiful plants. We stayed in the Bab Jdid room, on the first floor, and really enjoyed the room and the stay. The king size bed and pillows were excellent, and the window shutters guaranteed absolute darkness and a very peaceful sleep. The Riad is also far away from mosques, so the call for prayer did not wake us up at night, it was so nice and quiet. The room also has a fireplace (which I can imagine must be amazing turned on in the winter!), as well as a beautiful traditional bathtub. There is a roof terrace with chairs and tables, where you can chill out, and the staff were all very nice and friendly. The breakfast was OK, but was quite simple, local breads (sweet and savoury), butter, jam (prepacked, not fresh), orange juice, black coffee or Moroccan tea. We would have liked to see some fresh fruit (especially as there were beautiful strawberries in season and for sale in the market) and maybe plain yogurt or some eggs. On our first morning we actually asked if they could make us an omelette or fried eggs, and they said they didn’t have any, but they brought us two small fruit yogurts instead. On the second morning we were very pleasantly surprised when the staff brought us an omelette, we understood this is not something they usually offer, and they had gone the extra mile (since we had asked for eggs the previous morning), another example of how sweet they are! The Riad is located near the nicest (poshest?) street of the Medina, where all the boutiques and high-end shops are, along with Dar El Bacha,

My partner and I stayed in the suite for our 5 year anniversary and could not have asked for a better stay. The room was gorgeous with a balcony overlooking the plunge pool, with a huge comfortable bed and a 10/10 bathroom. We enjoyed breakfast on the roof or in our room in the mornings, with everything brought to us. The staff at Dar Baraka are a delight, and can help you with anything you need including booking tours and taxis. I hope we get to return one day!

Incredible friendly and heartfelt staff. Nothing is impossible :) all wishes were fulfilled. You will be picked up from the airport, the staff can organize a lot of different tours with perfect guides (book best Mouhssine). The Riad is very clean and everywhere it smells like a freshly blossomed meadow. Breakfast and dinner taste delicious. The Riad is very small and therefore very pleasantly quiet. You can end the evening on the roof terrace. In the morning the birds chirp there, in the evening cats come by on the roof .... we will definitely come back and definitely book this Riad again!
Riad Les Trois Palmiers El Bacha

The Riad is really beautiful, 5 minutes walk from the main square of the Medina and directly into the traditional, beautiful and colorful souks. The owner Patrick is very kind and super helpful, the staff fantastic. We had a small health problem and Mustafa immediately made himself available to personally accompany me to the pharmacy on Sunday, the day the pharmacies in the center are closed, taking me on a scooter. The rooms are always perfect and spotless, the breakfast excellent every morning. Airport-Riyadh transfer and return organized by them, punctual and cheap. The photos of the rooms don't do what they should, they are much much nicer than they seem. Thanks again to Mustafa and all the cleaning girls and of course to Chef Dalhila for the delicious food. 5 stars well deserved! Massalama Sahbi, Ricky and Jessica.
