Fairfield by Marriott Tochigi Nikko

This is supposedly one of the newer hotels in the area, and I thought being part of the Marriott family meant it wouldn't go wrong. However, there's no breakfast, only a microwave for heating convenience store food, and every day I saw groups of people gathered in the lobby eating snacks. It created a very poor impression. It's also quite far from the station, over two kilometers, and taxis are scarce, making it hard to get a ride. If you have a lot of luggage, I really advise against staying here. The hotel has a shuttle, but it runs only three times a day and requires booking three days in advance; they even refused to arrange a shuttle for us when we tried to book on the same day. What's worse, it gets dark early in winter, and after going out for dinner, it's very difficult to find a taxi. We asked the hotel to call one for us, but they refused, citing some policy. We ended up having to wait a long time at the station, and seeing them bowing and scraping when we came in just felt disgusting.
