The hotel is located in a dangerous area, as confirmed by the staff, who therefore agreed to refund the remaining nights and we were able to change hotels.
In addition, the room was not very clean (curtains, carpeting, bathroom quite old) and from what we saw and felt, the smell of tobacco-drugs was allowed in the rooms, the hallway smelled and entered through the air vents into the room. Breakfast very very basic
Staff generally friendly

This was the worst place I have ever stayed. As we drove in the parking area there were old wrecked cars and some ***** sitting in a vehicle in the middle of the lot. The rooms were very old and tattered looking. The sink bowl was painted and the bathroom floor was dirty. The hall way smelled of cigarette smoke and our view was of an empty ugly pool. There was a fight outside of our room and we left in the middle of the night.

The front desk staff were friendly enough, though not particularly welcoming. The hotel itself is awful, by far the worse hotel I've ever stayed in outside of a developing country. The sheets seemed clean luckily but the bed was uneven and terrible. The room was basically falling apart, uneven painting, gross showers, electrical sockets half sticking out, you get the idea. We saw a cockroach in the bathroom and the carpets must be the original carpets from whenever it was built in the early 1900s or whenever and there's a train that runs right outside the hotel just FYI. The location is great but not worth it in my opinion.

The first time I checked in, I was shocked. There was a train track in front of the hotel, and the train whizzed past the door.
After sleeping for two nights, I found that, fortunately, it did not affect my sleep at night, even though I have difficulty sleeping and have very strict sleep requirements.
After staying for a few days, I found that this hotel is really good: the transportation is very convenient. The ferry terminal is diagonally opposite the hotel, a five-minute walk away, and the ferry to downtown San Francisco takes 25 minutes. It's just over ten minutes' walk to the light rail (BART). It's also walking distance to downtown Auckland, and Chinatown is also there. There are also many bus lines. It's really convenient!
Behind the hotel is Starbucks, which is convenient for drinking coffee.
Then, the most beautiful thing is that the hotel is close to the seaside and pier. It feels really good and beautiful to go for a walk in the morning.
The service is also good and the room is quite big.
I stayed there for more than ten days in total, and I felt more and more comfortable the longer I stayed.
You get what you pay for. Jack London Inn is an old rundown hotel. We stayed on our way in to San Fran and on our way out of San Fran. Rather easy access to the airport. They had breakfast, not European standard but we were satisfied. The rooms differed on both stays. First stay we had no AC and couldn’t open any window in the middle of the summer. Very run down and tacky room. On our second stay it was a little bit better room with AC. The surrounding area is as San Francisco with a lot of homeless people and beggars everywhere but just across the street there was the Jack London promenade with a lot of nice restaurants and bars.
Response from Property: Dear Frieserchrissy, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We appreciate your feedback about the hotel's condition and the variability in your room quality. It's good to hear that the location was convenient for you and that you enjoyed the nearby Jack London promenade. We’ll take your comments into account as we work on improvements. Thank you for your insights, and we hope your future stays are more comfortable.

Awesome location, and great price. The rooms are generally very well kept up and the staff is quite helpful and responsive. Since moving out of the Bay Area in 017, I've been staying here about 2-3 weeks per year and they have always taken great care of me. It's not perfect, but I can't imagine staying anywhere else. I've always felt safe and it's in close proximity to so much.
Response from Property: Hi Douglas, Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're glad to hear you appreciate our location, pricing, and attentive staff. It’s great to have you back each year, and we look forward to your next stay!

Decent hotel. You get what you paid for. Comfortable bed. It has microwave and mini fridge which is a plus. I did not find hair blow dryer. It only has 2 towels in the room for a family of 4. Very thin towel. Clean hotel but needs alot to work on. Floors( rugs and laminate floor) definitely need to be replaced. It has free continental breakfast the includes sausage burrito which is only one left and we went around 8am. They did not refill it, they have 2 kinds of cereal, apples, banana, oatmeal, coffee with half and half, white and wheat bread, small cinnamon roll, apple juice and yogurt. They charge 25.00 for early check-in around 12pm
Response from Property: Hello Carol, Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us. We really appreciate your review and hearing about your experience and your thoughts.

This is a basic motel. Nothing more. It was clean enough, but there were lots of scratches, dents and small things that told you it was in need of an update. What it has going for it is location and value. It's inexpensive and right near a ferry terminal to San Francisco. My only complaint was the bathroom smelled of mildew. I did not try the continental breakfast.
Response from Property: Hello Aaargh, Thank you so much for sharing your feedback with us—we really value your input and flagging up areas where we can further improve. We really appreciate your review and hearing about your experience and your thoughts.

Horrible customer service and cleanliness! I came from out of town hoping to spend a great weekend in Jack London square and the bay area only to check into a room with used female sanitary pads wrapped up on the bathroom sink. I informed the front desk worker only to be told I would have to wait until he could get someone to clean the room. I then asked if I could have another room instead which he then offered. I went to the new room only to be disappointed as it had clumps of hair scattered on the floor. Frustrated, I complained again. Tired from a day of traveling and having to move my bags from one room to another on different floors, I just cleaned the hair up myself and stayed in the room. I would have left and checked into another hotel but there were none available at the time. After checking out the next day, I was told to contact the manager Mr. Singh concerning my complaints. I called and emailed him for five straight days only to be ignored and given the run around by his employees. I will never come here again and I would advise you not to either.

Your concerns are of the utmost importance to us, and we genuinely regret that we fell short of meeting your expectations. First and foremost, we are truly sorry for the unclean condition of the room you checked into. We understand how unsettling and distressing that must have been for you. Additionally, we are equally sorry for the poor customer service you encountered when reporting the issues to our front desk staff. Our team should have responded more promptly and with greater care to your concerns. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by having to switch rooms, and we understand how tiring and frustrating it can be after a long day of traveling. We truly appreciate your willingness to bring these issues to our attention. Your feedback serves as an essential reminder of the areas we need to improve upon to enhance the overall guest experience. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment you encountered during your stay. We hope you can give us another chance to make it right and showcase our commitment to providing exceptional service and cleanliness.

So we booked this on line, looked ok and was a great location. However upon arrival it seemed a little dodgy, what an understatement we opened the door and closed it immediately scared we would catch bed bugs or something like that. Do not stay here

Great, helpful staff. Clean rooms. Free parking. Eclectic guests, reminds me of Phoenix Hotel in SF circa 1990. FUNKY REAL. It’s a hotel in transition, great prices, great location. If you are expecting super cool interior design etc, give it a couple years. Loud— you can hear BART trains. Trade off: Really nice staff, delicious chicken&waffles in the building; coffee, mochi muffins, and bbq all a short walk. Good dispensary close by. Would stay here again. Especially for event/with a group. Would not recommend to solo women, people who need sleep. We felt like 20yr olds on a college break vacation. Higher floors better, though ask for a room with screens in the windows, a pigeon almost flew in our room. It’s kinda Wes Anderson, kinda “The Shining.” I’m an experienced and intrepid traveler over 60.
