Hotels near Church Stella Maris in Rome

We are a family of four, just returned from Camping Fabulous. We chose this campsite for its location and proximity to Rome. We didn't hire a car but organised a taxi from and to the Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino airport as it cost less than public transport and is less than a 30 minute transfer. We stayed 3-10th April. The campsite was just getting geared up for the start of the season and they were not ready to hit the ground running. The night we arrived there was a large queue of people outside the very small reception cabin, it's not an actual building, and a security guard outside was managing the queue so people didn't crowd into the very small cabin. We couldn't see how many reception staff were on so went straight to the bar for something to eat. It was busy there and staff seemed frazzled and harassed as if not expecting it to be so busy so early in the season. Food is basic but adequate. Stick to reliables like pizzas and pasta. Anything outside of that from a secondi menu did not live up to the description on the menu and pricey for what it was. Restaurant is not very attractive in decor- it's more like a canteen than a restaurant in the lighting and noisy acoustics. It's not a place you'd like to linger over a glass of wine. Eat and go. We returned to reception and got our key to our mobile which was a three bed close to the pool area. We requested a change right away as we were housed next door to a large noisy group of Italian men and reception facilitated our request. The second mobile was in a much quieter area but still near the pool. Good idea by previous reviewer to study the map of the campsite and select your accommodation before you go and ask to be accommodated in your choice. We met one family from Brussels with children who were 20 minutes walk from.the pool area, supermarket etc. The campsite is very big so bear in mind that you could be accommodated a good walk from facilities if you don't request otherwise. We knew the pool wouldn't be open until Friday 7th April and that was fine as we intended to visit Rome 4tg, 5th and 6th and stay around the pool when weather was forecast to be good at the Easter weekend but it did not say on the website that the supermarket would not be open until Friday 7th either. In fact it didnt open until Saturday 8th due to some issues but no one working there seemed to know when exactly it was opening and weren't too bothered either. People were milling sround in the mornings trying to buy the few croissants on sale from the bar and they sold out fast and that was it then, nothing else to buy, no basics available like fresh bread , milk or water. The bar staff were overwhelmed by the queue of people and knowing they were unprepared. We walked to the PIM supermarket, a well stocked supermarket, which was over 1km away and trekked back with water milk, cereal etc on a very dangerous, uneven, bumpy road with no footpath except at times, a bit of a muddy verge as the cars sped past. It'

I stayed in this hotel from 13-15th May. A new and comfortable hotel with friendly staff. On the early morning of 15/5, I found that my eyes seemed to have inflammation and the condition was deteriorating rapidly. I went downstairs around 5am to the reception and met a gentleman wearing glasses ( I recalled his name was Ricardo but my spelling was probably incorrect as I did not know italian language. My sincere apology to him first) He was aware of my conditions but said that there was no on-site doctor available at the moment. He told me that if I considered my condition serious, he could call an ambulance for me. As I have to check out at 0745 hours going to Florence, I immediately requested Ricardo to call an ambulance for me. The ambulance arrived very soon. After examination, the paramedics were satisfied that my condition was emergency and sent me to the nearby Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico where I received swift and professional treatment led by Dr Bucci Chiara. I was discharged shortly after 7am and returned to my tour group to carry on my visit before 8am. Dr Bucci Chiara was so kind to guide me where to take the Uber. In this matter, I deeply appreciated all involved including Ricardo, who asked my wife about my conditions before going off duty, the two ambulance paramedics, Dr Bucci Chiara and her medical/nursing colleagues. They all displayed a high degree of professionalism, dedication and enthusiasm towards their job. I felt that they are all very kind, generous, helpful people. I told other members in my tour group and they also found it amazing. Italy is such a wonderful place. I look forward to visiting Italy again very soon. Thank you to them all.

Liked the location of the hotel in EUR Rome. The rooms are nice and clean, good TV channels including BBC and CNN. The experience was ruined by the 1 hour + noise from the trucks loading and unloading skips in the next door Euromax shopping centre. The banging noise is horrendous. Sara did offer to replace my room but as i had 1 more night i didn't bother. The breakfast area is very busy and chaotic, takes a long time to get coffee from the Barista's. The breakfast items are okay but nothing substantial, they are very supermarket affair. The corridors are boring and dull and definitely 3 stars. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Euromax shopping centre next door is an excellent diversion on a rainy day.

First of all we checked in at midnight and waited over an hour for the guy at reception to finish with ONE customer. The hotel room was old but reasonable for €70 a night; although the SAFE didn’t work and some double beds are two single beds put together. The hotel overall is clean but it’s in a pretty rough area with hardly anything open after 9pm. Now if the reason you are staying is for access to Rome then be prepared for a 25mins bus ride to a very grotty Metro station and then another 25 odd minutes to Termini - which is the centre of Rome. Uber doesn’t take orders from area, and quite frankly isn’t very good on Italy. BREAKFAST: there isn’t an eggs bar or anything that is cooked fresh in front of you for but there is a reasonable hot food selection and juices with fruit. I’d give it a 4/10 for breakfast. There aren’t irons in the room but you can iron clothes on the ground floor “ironing room”. The WORST part of the hotel was that the swimming pool, Spa and gym is not accessible for months due to renovations which given that it is so far from civilization leaves nothing to do at the hotel apart from walking the pretty dodgy surrounding streets. PS: parking is free but in a dark and small underground space with no valet.

Although this is not a luxury hotel, the staff are extremely professional and go out of their way to help. Particular mention goes to Ricardo who assisted me by making an important call for me after hours and acting as an interpreter for me. Also I arrived 5 hours before check in time yet they accommodated me right away. The restaurant serves very good and reasonably priced meals. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the location is quiet and charming.

It's just that it's a bit far from the train platform, but everything else is perfect, especially the green corridor, nice! The layout of the room is also very unique, with a 360-degree rotating design.

Very very nice hotel in the Euro area of Rome, charming place, with so green. Excellent quality/price ratio The light and clean rooms. Air conditioning top. The staff very nice. Have a large swimming pool where we have fun so much. Offers restaurant service. I recommend it 100%

Looking for a place to stay in connection with concerts/activities at Pallazo dello Sport look no further - Hotel Shangri-La Roma in the EUR area is a perfect choice! We were holding tickets for a concert and debating forth and back with ourselves whether to stay in down-town historic Rome or change hotel and move to the EUR area in this connection. We chose the latter and were very happy that we did! The EUR district is situated more than 1 hr. by pubic transportation (bus/metro) from downtown historic Rome and one should not count on time-schedules running late evening nor to find a taxi in the chaos outside the sport hall, so staying overnight in the EUR area is the only sensible thing to do. And for that purpose Hotel Shagri-La is perfect! It took us merely 7 min, to walk between the hotel and the hall. Hotel Shangri-La is a hotel in a modern architechture with light halls and rooms in simple, smart and minimalistic design. The rooms are on the small side but offers you all the facilities you need for a briefer stay with a lovely, little adjacent bathroom. The decor is as shown in most of the pictures with white walls and orange blankets. Most rooms do likewise have a small private balcony or terrace - and so did ours - but with no view but for a concrete wall, so you need to ask specifically for a view of the green parklike area, if you would like that, we believe. But for a single night we were fine sitting for a tiny bit outside relaxing before getting off for the concert. OBS The EUR district is a very special area in suburban Rome with business and congress facilities spread out in a green area with lawns and trees and crossed by big busy boulevards. So you would like to stay here only in case of having business, meetings or sports/concerts events to take part in. There is no charming old historic Rome in sight here and it will take you long to get into down-town Rome from the hotel albeit various bus- and Metro lines are in the area. It took us some 40 min. by private taxi to get from Piazza Navona to Hotel Shangri-La in the afternoon. And as I mentioned before - the trafic situation outside the Palazzo dello Sport was more than chaotic, when we left the hall at midnight after our concert. But it took us just some 7 minutes to walk from the hall to Hotel Shangri-La along a well lit bit boulevard so it was a piece of cake! We were well received by the staff in the reception who spoke a perfect English and helped us get acquainted with the area on a map - and we had received a fine response before arriving as to how to get to the airport early next morning, so we were picked up at 04:30 am as pre-ordered by a nice car and friendly driver awaiting us and swiftly in some 15-20 min. driven to Fuciomicino. The price was as agreed upon (50 EUR incl. early morning pick-up), so we feel confident using and booking transfers directly with the hotel in the future as well. Parto con il dire che pernotto spesso a Roma sia per lavoro che per concorsi. Avendo pernottato in tale struttura per 3 notti, ho potuto gustare la loro colazione, che anche se un pò povera a livello di scelta, era comunque buona. Piccolo neo, anche se per me molto importante, nonostante il costo elevato della stanza, non fanno un cappuccino ”reale”, ma sei costretto a bere quello della macchinetta (direi che con quasi 170 euro a notte magari un cappuccino come si deve me lo merito, ma va bene). Durante il soggiorno, lo scarico del water non funzionava poichè si era danneggiato, ma è stato prontamente riparato. Ho apprezzato la cordialità dei ragazzi che si occupavano della ristorazione. Cosa non mi è piaciuto?! Da dove iniziare?! La cosa più GRAVE a mio parere e che hanno rovistato nel mio zaino (chiuso nell'armadio) in mia assenza, Direte voi, come te ne sei accorta? Semplice! Sono una maniaca dell'ordine con l'aggravante di essere germofobica, per cui non appena arrivo in una stanza d'albergo igienizzo e conservo tutto in modo che, durante le pulizie, nessuno possa toccare la mia roba. Avevo lasciato il mio zaino interamente chiuso, anche le fibbie a scatto, ed il comparto che rende espandibile il mio zaino chiuso. Al mio ritorno trovo lo zaino spostato, le fibbie e la cerniera della parte espandibile aperta. Dal mio zaino ovviamente non mancava nulla. Appena giunti in Hotel, la receptionist, squadrandoci dalla testa ai piedi, e notando le nostre valigie (due zaini) credeva, forse, non fossimo all'altezza di quel posto!?Non saprei. Sta di fatto che non appena ho comunicato che avevamo una stanza prenotata, ha subito cambiato atteggiamento, divenendo quasi adorabile e sdolcinata. Avendo prenotato e pagato tramite booking, ho dovuto pagare in loco le sole tasse di soggiorno, risultanti dal sito essere 6 euro al giorno. All'atto del pagamento mi viene richiesto un costo di euro 7.5 a notte; ovviamente faccio presente che sul sito era indicato un costo differente, ma il receptionist in maniera molto sgarbata, poco educata e con fare infastidito, utilizzando un tono di sufficienza, non da nessuna spiegazione, ma ribadisce il costo totale da pagare. Ora io non sono solita mettere delle recensioni negative, ma qui ci sta tutta.
