Hotel location is good, not far from the various attractions. There are public transportation in a few minutes, close to the train station. The rest of the night is quiet, and occasionally I hear someone shouting loudly. Will continue to support next time!

As someone who appreciates rehabbed/repurposed buildings we just had to stay here based off of the gorgeous lobby photos. Let me tell you: it does NOT disappoint! Vanessa at the front desk was super nice when we checked in and greeted/chatted with us both first nights when we came back in. Thank you so much. Location is fantastic just off of 5th/Gaslamp, but at least a couple blocks away to be away from the craziness of the thick of it. Pros: - Centrally located. If you don’t mind walking, we walked to Star of India/Harbor, Convention Center, and Balboa Park (but the last was a HIKE). - Large room. We were in 705 and very impressed by the size and cleanliness. - Gorgeous lobby and fun vintage touches (check the basement!) - Beautifully rehabbed - very tasteful and nice inside elevators, halls, and rooms! - Quiet! Not a single disturbance during our 3 nights. Cons: - No window/outside ventilation. I almost considered making this 4 stars for this alone. I would have loved some cool night breeze and sounds of the city, but all windows are picture glass insulating the original outside windows. It’s a real, genuine bummer and a huge drawback for me. - Toilet paper quality. I’ll never understand why Marriott gives such sandpaper haha. Give us a bidet if that’s the case! :) All in all we were very happy with our stay and recommend this hotel if you love a bit of history and want something Instagrammable. If you’re seeking fancy amenities, look elsewhere.

Staff is extremely friendly and accomodations are better than some of the more expensive properties.

The service was very good. Two pineapple biscuits were given at check-in, which was very cute. You don’t have your own parking lot and you need to park in a nearby public paid parking lot. The rooms are neat and clean, small in size, but the decoration looks very comfortable. The location is unbeatable, the hotel has free bicycles to borrow, and the most convenient way to move in downtown is the bicycle

Jennifer Rivera-Nichols 1/5 just now on Google I arrived with my mom to check in at this worst San Diego hostel at 1am...ridiculously exhausted. My mom had just paid to park 2 blocks away and we carried armfuls of belongings with us to the hostel. When we arrived, the clerk was like, ”Reservation?” like my mom was speaking Greek. She said nothing and just walked away. Minute later the owner came in and told my mom that I was not allowed to stay there because I'm under 18. She was talking to my mom like a bully. My mom explained to the owner that our room was already paid for, that she had booked it thru hotels.com as a minor + adult, and that it was 1am already...we're exhausted and where else are we gonna get a room at that hour. I kept falling asleep on their staircase during this time because I was so tired. The lady was arguing with my mom about their rules. Meanwhile, the clerk keeps saying to my mom, ”She's just trying to help you.” That's a lie. If they wanted to help, they could have...but they did not. After a heated conversation, the owner says she will allow me to stay. I was relieved. Then 3 seconds later I just heard her tell my mom, ”Nevermind. I don't like your attitude. You need to get off my property.” WTH Really? This mean lady was gaslighting my mom, bullying her, and was mad at us for just for walking thru the door. She could have approached my mom saying, ”Hi, I'm So-and-So, the owner. It looks like there is a discrepancy with your booking. Because we have shared bathrooms here, we don't allow children. I know it's 1am, and hearing this is really stressful, but let's see what we can do to figure this out. Would you be able to accompany your daughter to the bathroom?” Instead she treated my mom really bad like she had done something wrong. We've stayed at plenty of hostels. None of them had a policy saying I could not be there. I was starting to feel really scared that I would not have a place to sleep since I heard my mom on the phone trying to find a new hotel. They were all full or $300. This Gaslamp Hostel owner is anti-children, anti-family, and made me feel like I had caused my mom so much hassle :-( After we wasted an hour trying to check in and get our money back, I tried to cheer my mom up. I was hugging her while she sat on the phone with hotels.com. I told her I could sleep in the car so she would not have to spend more money or be more stressed, but my mom said it's not safe to sleep in the car, and she didn't know where we could park to do that anyway. My mom was crying when we left. We ended up sleeping in a gross motel smoking room. I saw a bug on the table when we walked in. The owner of this cheap San Diego hotel is not a human being. Porto Vista is an affordable hotel with killer breakfast in a good location. However, they have an ongoing plumbing problem. The toilet didn’t flush properly during my last 2 stays within a couple of weeks. When I reported it and request a different room, the receptionist said no and told me to wait until a maintenance person determines whether it is repairable or not. After about an hour, the same receptionist said it was fixed. Alas, it wasn’t. So, my stay was not as pleasant as it could have been.

As a digital nomad I frequently travel across California and San Diego is one of my favorite cities. I came across stay classy hostel from a recommendation from a friend and was pleasantly surprised. Stay classy is more like a hotel than a basic hostel. Brandon and Derek the owners are very quick to help and accommodate you at any given moment. I like the fact that they are striving to be a “smart hostel” with digital key locks and upgrades TVs and lighting. They even put fans in the rooms per request of one of the guests. I wish them nothing but luck and think they have a successful franchise on the horizon. I will miss staying at this place as my journey in San Diego has possibly come to a close but I highly recommend it! 5 stars! Ryan

We stayed in the Gaslamp area for our anniversary went to Petco Park for the big concert and we had dinner out in the Gaslamp area and went to Seaport Village it was wonderful because everything was in walking distance
