This hotel rates 2 stars for the following reasons: 1) location- a great location for visiting Big Bend National Park 2) the bed was adequate, the ac worked and the toilet flushed The reasons it didn't rate higher 1) major maintenance and renos are needed- peeling paint, holes in walls, shower didn't drain properly, junk all around property, furniture needed replacing, our room was surrounded by tools and junk. 2) way over-priced and pricing was deceptive. No total amount given before reservation was confirmed and credit card charged with no refund policy. Price given per night of $140. Add on 13% tax, 3.5% credit card fee and $25 cleaning fee. None of these fees were mentioned or were given before finalizing reservation. This us a complaint in previous reviews. 3) no breakfast available in the area and no fridge in room. The onsite restaurant opened at noon. 4) no internet in rooms but was able to pick it up at the restaurant. This motel has the same complaints going back years. There are new owners as if December. Sadly, previous poor business practices seem to be continuing. This hotel needs to be honest and upfront about it's pricing (which is very high- our $140 a night was actually charged at $180 a night. It needs a major renovation. It has great potential but I wouldn't stay here again.

Interesting place to stay in the ghost town, the room was nice, the bathroom clean and the bed was very comfortable. Parking is free and you can park close to your room. There is a bar and restaurant on the premises so if you want to go for a fist after a long day this is the place to go. Convenient and close to the Big Bend, definitely worth the stay. Only remark is the cost, it's too high, $180 for a night is a bit too much. Only stay here if you must.

Location is very convenient to Big Bend. Our bed was comfortable and the towels were nice... But... They claim the property is undergoing renovations. Not our room. Broken floor tiles (lots of them), jacuzzi tub out of order, cockroaches and other bugs, shower was adequate but small and old. We were so concerned about bugs we didn't sit on any of the furniture (it's old) and we kept our suitcases zipped up at all times and slept on top of the sheets. The website said there was a refrigerator in each room...nope. The total price was 30% more than room quote; you learn of all the extra charges at the last minute. And you only have 48 hours FROM BOOKING to cancel. After that, you lose everything.

I made & paid for lodging in November 2022, but when checking in at restaurant they couldn’t find our reservation. We were “upgraded” from a 2 bed room to a suite. Yes, it was a bigger room with a king bed but updates are needed!! The shower ceiling paint is peeling and the shower handle had a golf ball rather than a shower handle. Shower curtain was gross & needed to be replaced. The toilet leaked. The jacuzzi tub was out of order, but we didn’t care about that. We don’t mind “rustic” or “quirky” but this lodging needs works and is way over-priced for what it is!! Bed was comfortable and nice towels. AC worked ok but should probably be updated.

Seriously overpriced for such a basic property. No fridge, obsolete wi-fi so only one of our devices connected. You have to heat the shower water 25 mins. before use, so if 4 people in room it could take up to 2 hours for showers. No breakfast available. (Nearby Expresso Y Poco Mas is decent) Floor, beds and bathroom were clean, but window sill, blind (broken) and pictures hadn't seen a duster in months, yet they charge $25.00 for cleaning. Turns out that if the owner is away, the promised email information never arrives. The food in the associated High Sierra next door was reasonable, but no breakfast.

We stayed in Room 21 at the El Dorado earlier this week for 3 nights. The good points about this room are that It was clean and the king bed was comfortable. Water pressure and plumbing are good. Bedding and towels were nice. Staff updated towels and took out trash daily. The hotel is convenient to Big Bend and all amenities and entertainment in Terlingua. It has a nice restaurant and bar with pretty good food. The staff is friendly and helpful. The patrons were fun. The negative is that the room was simply beat up and in need of cosmetic repair. The area rug is soiled and stained. A spiky tree overhangs the stairs and patio that you have to duck under for entry. The air conditioning is barely adequate for the 100 degree daily temps, and took almost 10 hours to cool the room when we arrived, however, it kept the room cool once it got to a reasonable temperature. Something was loose on the metal roof that banged and creaked at night. I understand why people stay here because of the location. If you are expecting luxury go to Lajitas golf resort or a nearby VRBO. If you want convenience and don’t mind the rough edges the El Dorado is fine.

On a recent overnight stay we seemed to be the only guests staying here. Perhaps because the $180 price reflected a Motel 6 character for a Marriott price. The adjacent Bar does a good business with good food but there are better options for accommodations in the area.

The El Dorado hotel is located nearby one of the Big Bend National Park entrances. It is a great place for daytrips to the park. The room was clean and the WiFi good. There is no TV, but do you need a TV at this place? The room was cleaned every day. The restaurant was good and I had great fajitas. The people were friendly and I had the luck to spend a evening with the locale and listen to great live music.

The bus was Comfortable and exactly as promised. At its core it is a clean, old bus, not luxury accommodations. Shower was good. Fridge and stove top. Two air conditioning units - worked well. Good views of the Chisos in the distant. Close proximity to the hotel restaurant and bar. Would stay again.
