We stayed here for one night. Our rooms were clean and the place had a warm cozy feel to it. Helen greeted us and was a pleasure to be with. Our breakfast in the morning was awesome. We then went across the street to the Jerpoint Abbey Ruins. It was an interesting way to start the day.

I stayed Monday night and was late for breakfast by 10 mins and was refused a hot breakfast. The owner would not tell us directly and when we complained we were told to ‘get over it’. Extremely rude woman and in 30 years of travelling I have never experienced such a response.

This is just what you hope you will find when you book a guest house B&B. Elegant, roomy, relaxed. Great rooms, great breakfast, clean and warm friendly service and great value. We just completed a 65 day tour of Ireland and central Europe and this is on par with anywhere we have stayed without the big price tag. The only shame is that the lady of the house doesn't serve dinner. Thank you Des and May Dockery

We enjoyed our stay at Abbey House very much, and Helen was very kind and helpful. It's a short drive from town where there are several options to eat. Our room was comfortable and we had a great breakfast the next day. Because it's right by the river, we couldn't keep our window open at night or the bugs would've come in. But otherwise, we had a very nice stay. The Jerpoint Abbey ruins across the road are a MUST-SEE. Helen very kindly let us keep our car in her lot while we explored. I highly recommend a stay here and a tour of the abbey.

My stay at Abbey House was a last-minute surprised and had to be changed once. Helen was wonderful about it all and provided true hospitality. Not only is Abbey House a beautifully renovated historic house, but it's in a peaceful setting between Jerpoint Abbey and a wooded stream by the also historic towns of Thomastown. And unlike a lot of places since covid, Helen offers a lovely breakfast. My only (very small) cautions are that a)if Kilkenny town itself is your focus, Abbey House is a few miles south and b)Helen only takes cash. But that only takes a bit of preplanning. If you're anywhere near Jerpoint, don't pass up this treat.

There are benefits to the Abbey House B&B. It is across the street from the magnificent Jerpoint Abbey, which allows time for walks and contemplation of the Abbey. Additionally, there is parking on site, and it is not far from Thomastown which has several nice cafes. Overall, I had minimal contact with the proprietor so I cannot speak on her or guest relations. I initially chose this B&B based on the wonderful TripAdvisor reviews, and I am clearly in the minority regarding my overall poor experience. There were several significant issues, all related to cleanliness. First, both the bedroom and the bathroom had a significant bug burden, ranging from spiders to small brown creatures. The bottom of the closet had at least ten dead, there were two living in the window valence followed by four (large) spiders on the ceiling of the bedroom and three in the bathroom. A secondary issue was the dusty nature of the furniture. The bedding was clean, but the chair and end tables had not been wiped in some time. A third issue was the dirty mugs for tea. Both mugs placed in my room had been used recently and were significantly stained. I am happy to send pictures to other travelers upon request. I understand that COVID has been difficult on small businesses, and perhaps my experience was an outlier related to hard times. Regardless, uncleanliness to that degree was not acceptable for me as a guest.
