Reading other reviews on here should’ve put me off, but I went anyway, and we’re glad we did. People and staff were 2nd to none. Great place, great breakfast, superb, ok, it’s a little run down, but it’s older than gods dog, so I don’t really know what people expect. Loved our stay, and would recommend to anyone. 👍🏻

This was our first visit to Churston Court, due to a family emergency, we arrived over 24 hours later then we intended but the staff were really understanding and accommodating. We were soon shown to our room before enjoying a nice drink in the bar. The room itself is like the rest of the hotel it's quirky and full of character. It is a bit dark in the rooms and there are one too many cobwebs, which do add to the scene, but probably shouldn't be there. The room furniture is dated but fits in completely with the character, the shower is just standard mixer tap shower but was adequate, however the bed was nice and big and so comfortable. The location is great, set back but within a short walk to some lovely coves and not far from Brixham and everything that has to offer. I wouldn't describe Churston Court as a hotel, it is a bar/B&B at the most, no food other than breakfast is on offer, this can be a bit frustrating due to the remoteness, we were told that we could just order in a take-a-way. Instead we had a full breakfast, had a lunch during the day where ever we were visiting and bought something lite back to the room for the evening. Breakfast was ok, nothing special, but adequate to set you up for the day. There needs to be consistency with what's on offer, as the week went on the breakfast bar became more sp****, it's almost as if the staff will replace once it's gone. The building as quirky as it is, is crying out for some TLC, it could be so much better that it is with some inves**ent back into the property. On the whole, it gave us everything we needed, a base to enjoy a much needed holiday. The staff were really nice, but the manager is so laid back, I'm sorry to say, too laid back, it feels as if he's happy to just let it run, and do the bare minimum to get the day done, his appearance was also very shabby, its looked like he needed to change or just wash his clothes, not the example and drive I'd expect from someone managing my business. It's the little detail, like most most booking sites, and their own website being out of date, showing customers what they could have had in the past, but no longer on offer now, like with the food. If they get the detail right and show some passion for what is a lovely building in a stunning location, this could be an amazing place to stay. Churston Court needs to go back to offering food, the area crying out for it, instead customers are having a short walk to the Railway Inn and spending their money at a rival location. Would I stay again, yes I would, I love the area and this is a good base to explore. Just don't expect anything beyond what a basic B&B has to offer.

Beautiful hidden gem full of history and character! My stay was a surprise from my hubby, I was blown away by this venue. It’s beautiful, full of character and the history is amazing! Our room was beautiful with a stunning 4 poster bed, a lovely bathroom and plenty of storage. We arrived around 7pm, the bar was busy but wasn’t loud and we were served by a very friendly young man. We were checked in and taken to our room. We popped out to get something to eat (told in advance the kitchen was shut during our stay). Came back and headed to our room. Lovely comfortable bed and had a really good nights sleep. Didn’t experience any of the noises complained about in other reviews and to be honest, I would have expected some noise given the age of the property. Breakfast was in the most amazing dining room, the lady serving breakfast was friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We were expecting a continental breakfast given the kitchen closure warning but we were delighted with a full English! Delicious food and served quickly. Check-out was simple, served again by another friendly member of staff. The grounds are stunning and I encourage you to research the history of this amazing property. We will definitely be back - Thank you

Hadn't looked at any photos of hotel so was a liitle shocked at the decor...but I love history so was spellbound! Very historical superbly laid out hotel.impossible to be spotless due to age and condition of obvious real antiques...breakfast lovely well cooked fresh & hot..lovely attentive lady serving..room tidy comfy & spacious. en-suite huge..only complaint heating was hit & miss..local folklaw & resident ghost was NOT a myth...enjoyed it very much and for price was great.

I previously stayed here a few times pre covid and was good This stay was bad, hotel needs re furnishing and cleaning From check in where they couldn’t give a me a receipt and told me 1 would be ready for when I departed Asked about food in evening either in bar or restaurant and was told we don’t do food anymore Room ok but not great Breakfast was a joke Got down at 8.30 and took 15 minutes for any staff to come out, no menu and was told they did full English Bacon, egg, sausage, black pudding, hash brown, tomato and beans (sounded good), ordered full with no tomato and toast, a few minutes later they asked had I ordered tea of coffee and no one has asked They only had on display a few packs or cereal and orange juice and some yogurt, no other juice or water and lurpack but no butter Breakfast turned up about 15 minutes later missing hash browns and black pudding but with tomato Finished and then toast arrived Went to get my receipt and not done (note had been left) Took another 10 minutes to get one done a word document Will not stay here again

On arrival massive sign saying “under new management” I ask how old is the sign? Because if this new management oh dear god! Such a beautiful property falling into disarray it seems there is no love left for a building of this character. On pulling into the car park it appeared to be fairly busy with lots of cars. The car park seemed to have endless bottle of wine and cans of beers scattered around. Made me wonder if the bins were maybe stored in the car park but I couldn’t see any. Walked into the bar area to go check in as instructed by the sign at the door. To be greeted with an over whelming stench of cigarettes when I entered the bar area. Two ladies serving and full bar of what appeared to be the local swearing generation of men! I was greeted by the lady no name or introduction given. Disappointing! I was Shown to the room and advised about heating would come on at 9pm, breakfast and late returning. All seemed okay. Returned to the car to collect luggage and entered the room, further inspection of the room showed it was an array of colours, curtains stained and hanging of the end. Tea tray covered in stains, empty wine bottle on top of the wardrobe, draws dusty and the beds was so lumpy and with a dip in the middle. Not wanting to waste the good weather headed straight out for a dog walk to eldberry cove. Returned to freshen up before heading out for dinner, to find the shower head was so old and needed descaling only half the holes were working. When we returned after a pleasant evening, we fancied a drink in the bar. Hoping the smell of fags and the large louts had moved on we thought we’d give it a try. The bar was very chilled and I went to order fro the bar, another lady this time. I ordered a non alcoholic beer to be presented with a cider when there was clearly becks blue in the fridge. On telling the bar lady I was ignored. For myself a gin and slimline tonic. Yet repeatedly kept trying to give me Mediterranean. No apology from the bar staff. Couldn’t drink the cider was wanted a NON alcoholic beer! £12 later went to bed! Incredibly noisy night, either ghosts or they have something very wrong with the pipes in the building. Arrived down for an early breakfast to be greeted by no one. By 8.20 a car pulled into the car park at top speed with one can assume the chef rushing in. I think we spooked her when she came to setup breakfast. Very kindly served us before the waiter arrived. Food was nothing to special and as the restaurant filled we could hear various complaints. The most disappointing was the state of the waiter when he arrived. No hairnet apron or smart uniform. Must have just strolled out of bed! Overall the place needs some serious staff training, inves**ent and TLC. It would be such a shame to see it close down.

Having been to this hotel many times over the last few years , we were looking forward to a overnight stay, how wrong were we !!! No food available , inside the hotel was the same, quirky which we love , drinks not the best ,three men in the bar having a very loud swearing session together, outside goodness what a terrible mess the sitting area needs a good update , breakfast was ok , staff polite sorry to say won't be coming here again not even popping in for a coffee !!!! What a waste of a historic building

We visited today for a quiet Sunday drink. I’ve never quite seen anything like it in a pub. Screaming kids inside which I understand belonged to the bartender. They were sat at the bar (illegal to start with) and were shouting the place down. Countless tables left shortly after coming in. One child almost fell off a barstool which was alarming and they then started licking the beer pumps across the bar… We left. This is a pub, not a crèche.

We stayed at the Churston Court Hotel for one night on Saturday 23rd April 2022. The check in was simple and we were shown to our room and was very pleased with the room. Nice size room and very clean and tidy. We spent the evening in the bar and all the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The following morning, the full English breakfast was superb. I have read earlier reviews running the hotel down but, we have nothing but praise for the Hotel. Set in a lovely area, you couldn’t ask for anything better.
